Which variant is priced over 15Lakh?

Ex - showroom, the top variant of the Basalt is priced at about 13 lakh. However, on road prices of this variant could surpass 15 lakh.

On-road price in Delhi for mid and top end automatic is 15 and 16 lakh respectively. Add another 1 lakh for places like Bangalore where taxes are higher.

Re: Citroen Basalt Review

Problems are emerging for Citroën and Basalt. This aggressive pricing is likely to attract many bookings to the Tata Curvv over Basalt, due to its appealing looks, wider service network, and the growing Tata fan base. It is surprising that Tata is positioning itself as a rival to Citroën, which is why they postponed the price reveal.

For some reason it looks to me like just like sharing of Fiat engines with Tatas, even vehicle designs are also getting shared. it is surprising that two rivals get to launch a similarly designed vehicles, with similar set of Engine (Petrol ones) in exactly the same times.

The only thing worth pondering is that if Fiats are sharing so much to tatas ( engines, common mfg plants and what nots), they should have at-least asked for Curvv's 1.5L Eur6-Diesel-engine from Tata which could have helped push Basalt volumes.

For a General customer, it is an even steven game. Assuming (big assumption) that the both the cars have the same underpinnings (or architecture whatever you call it), for end consumer it is same whether one buys Basalt for low price / practical features / thin network or Curvv for higher price / more snob features / bigger network.

This is a revelation to me. Are the Revotron TCMPFi and Hyperion TGDi turbo engines used in Tata Curvv, a derivative of Fiat engine? Or I am misreading something..

I believe the 1.2L 3 Cylinder Turbo charged engine has become a normal or standard across various car manufacturers for their sub 4 mtr cars to attract a lower tax bracket.. The cars longer than 4 Mtr are sporting 1.5 Ltr and above engines and they fall in a higher tax bracket.

Except that both Basalt and Curvv are called 'Coupe SUV', they are a segment apart in pricing, though base variant prices are strikingly close (for apparent reason of drawing the customers to the showroom for a 'Dekho'. )

I visited Citroen dealer and checked out the Basalt Top variant. For a top variant, it felt like plane Jane, bereft of any premium feel or features..It didn't feel special or there wasn't any USP that the SA could enthuse me with. The Curvv definitely looks better loaded with a premium cabin and feels a segment higher.

The safety rating (or lack of ) of Basalt and the relatively smaller service network of Citroen is something that could veer the people towards Curvv, though Tata service is no great shakes, but definitely more extensive than Citroen. And then Tata is seen as a local/ Indian car maker while Citroen is essentially a French car maker. That adds to the final decision making.

I am curious to see how the future pans out to both these cars. Only time will tell

Re: Citroen Basalt Review

Citroen Basalt opens its account in the August sales chart. The numbers will mostly be of dealer+ limited deliveries to customers.

Re: Citroen Basalt Review

Test drove the Basalt today. Here are my impressions.

1. Looks really good tbh, especially in red color.
2. I drove the manual Turbo. Progress is brisk and enjoyable.
3. The music system sounds great for a 6 speaker unit with very clear mids and punchy bass. The SA said that the speakers are made by Focal. I would take that with a pinch of salt but very good performance indeed.
4. Cabin is very spacious and the AC is a chiller.
5. The highlight for me is the suspension! It's super compliant with very minimal body roll. NVH levels are great as well.
6. The missing features are definitely evident, but I must say that except for ventilated seats, all other needs of mine were catered to.
7. There were some nasty panel gaps near the gear lever which the SA said is specific to the test car.

Overall for a first time bachelor buyer like me, I guess the car is a pretty good choice.
Also spotted the new C3 with all black interiors at the showroom which featured all the new goodies from the Basalt for about 2L less.

Re: Citroen Basalt Review

Some update for Citroen customers in Bangalore.

Two new service centres are coming up, One in Indiranagar the same one that was run by PPS and the other in Electronics City. Akira is the new dealer. So in all four service centres in Bangalore
  1. KHT Mahadevpura
  2. KHT Yeshwantpur
  3. Akira Indiranagar
  4. Akira Electronics City.

Re: Citroen Basalt Review

Made a comparison between the Basalt top model and the Honda City base model.
Honda seems to be better and well-equipped in each aspect,
I love the way Basalt looks but am not able to opt for it instead of a trusted IVTEC city.

Re: Citroen Basalt Review

Citroen or PSA 1.2 Puretech Petrol engine (Turbo and Non-Turbo) is apparently a big nightmare with respect to reliability on all the European forums. The main cause for concern is the wet type timing belt that gets rapidly deteriorated due to its inherent design. I did not come across any of out Indian reviewers highlight this fact.

Unless the design has changed for India (highly unlikely), this car should not be on the shopping list of anyone.
