Congrats ! Its not often that we get to pat each other's backs after buying a 30-year-old vehicle.

If you ever want to sell it somewhere down the line, you'll find me here!

Oye Bobby!

Congrats!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
check the attached photo.
Bobby is my first love as a child. Now after 18 years i was hounding for this. Rescued from somewhere. If you want 2 restore it properly then need to take some pain. (you can source anything from chorbazar too. Gts has become very rare) I ve restored my bike to showroom finish. From original ignition key to original fuel line cock -all parts have "RAJDOOT" engraved on it. Dude fuel rubbers are rarest of rare (as per my search exeperience, u try ur luck) My spare search ranged from mumbai to Delhi to Kanpur to Faridabad to Banglore.
I first restored the engine. Then after 5-6 months stripped the bike down. First thing on agenda was chassie strenghthning. Then came chrome plating. followded by paint. please take care of this bike while restoring keeping in mind THAT YOURS IS THE ONLY SURVIVING BOBBY.
while restoring one wheel hub got broken into 2 pieces (after all it was 25 year old) I scouted for another one. Belive me; i could not get it anywhere. The point is be very careful. bobby is real rare machine.
The original wiring kit came from 1500 km away. Now within 8-10 days she will be ready. fully factory finish.
During my search for the picture of original bike (the Green 1 posted on MetroPlus-Chennai is lot of modified. Check front suspension, mudguards, silencer shield pannel. All non original. All because the rarity of machine) i found another beauty laying in the stone quary. No questions please . I brought it . For my 2nd project. Now i am on mission, to save rare indian bikes. The photo im sending was clicked just before loading her into truck to take it to my garage for restoration.
you are really LUCKY to have one (me too for two ) Take your own sweet time for restoration. Need looooooooooooots of patience. And real passion. KEEP 1 thing in mind that you are going to infuse life of another 100 years in this BOBBY aks GTS 175. i am thankful to some books i had procured from abroad which are devoted to restoration of vintage and classic.

Get in touch if u need any help for restoration of your joy bundle.

Just realised, this thing has the 175 engine, and it's pretty small. Must be plenty quick, eh?

gts 175

its pretty fast and fearsome. Its real fun to own this Dutchhound. The real fun is when i rode this bobby (before restoration) for my early morning joyrides i noticed that i was followed by some bikes, 1 lad in his esteem overtook me and pulled over and stopped me to say some good words and then came " how much shall i pay u for this machine?". its a PRIDE POSSESSION. Wait till next week for the pictures of my restored honey.

Another thing in my garage is LAMBRETTA Li 150. 1970 model. After finishing 2nd Bobby Lamby will come for restoration. And wait for the 4th thing its REAL ANTIQUE, RARE etc.etc. Im sure that only 1 in 1000 would bhave heard the name. I am holding all the details till resoration.

Been there done that :P n I miss it :(

Had this fantastic thing in my school days (7th Standard - 11th Standard). Was a killer machine...

Build Quality: Well I don't know about your bike mate, but mine had a metallic paint too...

The tank and side panels had blue metallic paint , while the chasis was a dull blunt paint.

Extra Tyre:
It always had one... Well a bike with a stepney... Was a very useful thing... was saved zillion times during a flat on an empty stretch. Changing was very simple but tricky. Take out the tyre by pulling out the drive shaft... now you you have to look for the nut which holds the rim to the drum and keep opening the alternate ones.. Bingo now bolt the drum to the stepney and put it back...

Engine: It's a original rajdoot engine 175 cc and can also take a rx100 engine with ease (I know what's on your mind), but have to do some mods like the chain is on the right hand side...

Churns out 9 bhp, If i'm not wrong, with small scooter tyres it was super sprint...

Well.. That's a free flow exhaust...

It's noisy but fun...

Braking si what you should seriously look at, as at times its bad but it's too godd too.

Unfortunatly my dad had a brain hamarage while riding one and when he braked his head hit the bar in between which was there in early GTS'.

I miss it lie crazy...

Had given it to someone to use it as had a cycle. That person sold it and bought a new bycycle .

Anyways, delhi guys, If you're looking around and you get one with this number do let me know.
DHY 1240

Yeah, that was my bike...

have fun...

Ciao
Samy

Nice thread! Brought back some nice memories.

As a kid, I have ridden pillion on my uncle's bobby on NH4. It was 2 lane highway back then with lot of trees on both sides of the road. We used to stop by, pluck out some groundnuts or sugar cane from nearby fields. Enjoy the scenery for 5-10 minutes and drive on. Whenever he used to visit our house, that bike used to focal point of attraction for entire colony for all good/bad reasons.

Bobby has a very very distinct exhaust note, which as a kid, I could blindly recognize even when it was as far as 500 meters away from our house.

Aww!! I'd seen a couple of these scooters here at Hyd. last year! One was lying slanted at a repair garage that I used to pass by, for months together & I first used to wonder what it was.....thought it was a Kelvinator Avanti (anyone rem. these?) or Lamby polo something....& one day when I walked to the place to check it out in detail I found it was gone!

Saw another one at Secunderabad one night a few months ago....in much better condition.....will go see if its still there sometime!

Well having gone thru this thread I can say that you guys have ignited a curious interest (although mild for now!) in me for this bike!
I've a friend in Bangalore who has one in a similar blue shade that's been lying at his place & he wants to sell it.......he'd asked me if I was interested but I wasnt too keen as that was probably the first time I was noticing such a bike! But now, giving it a thought......!
Anyways, Vinay, good luck w/ your restorations & I'd sure like to see the pics. of your Lambretta online too sometime!
