It is, but its been changed quite a bit with the Earl's fork (reverse) in front being replaced by a conventional telescopic one and the headlamp used seems to be borrowed from the RX 100.

If you want to now whats special about this bike, read the first few posts on this thread - some of them have links to articles on other pages.

Apart form front forks and Head laight other not original things are 1) Tail lamp 2) handle bar 3)swiches 4)rear pillion footrest sub frame (original are cantilever type and attached to swing arm directly) 4) speedo meter 5) swing arm mounted side stand 6) logo on the side panel
This model is featuring round enclosure type filter. The earlier model had
a big beautifull box type filter encloser.
The side panel can be opened by twisting the black button screw and the cavity can swallow lot of the thing (storage space).
Now after restoration when i ride my GTS, i have to be very careful because i ve expericed thing like Some cars pull over after overtaking me to ask me the price, name of the bike, and even " is it electric bike?"
When Tmbhpian EGANGSTA was test riding my GTS he was followed by some guys like maniac. A guy said i want this bike.................
Small size of this machine make her to stand apart. Dont go on the size because (whatever examples you can find) are not coming cheap. By the way where is awini> the creator of this thread.

It worked briefly, thanks to the promotion on Bobby (the movie).

Basically they thought the scooter was a bad idea, tried improving on it, failed, and therefore tried to make a bike that could be ridden by scooter lovers - India was primarily (99%) a scooter market back then and bikes were frowned upon as either (1) dangerous (2) not for family men or (3) for guys like Shammi Kapoor who chased girls around.

A Scooter was more conservative. Methinks since Escorts didnt have a scooter, they tried this.

Before they collaborated with Yamaha in the early eighties, Escorts used to offer 3 two wheelers, all fitted with the same 175 CC two stroke engine:
  1. The Rajdoot Motorbike
  2. Rajdoot GTS (Bobby)
  3. The Rajhans Scooter (Perhaps the name was changed from Runabout to increase sales)
While the Rajdoot Motorbike was very popular in North India, especially in the country side and small towns, the other two didn't do too well, notwithstanding the publicity GTS received as a result of Bobby film.

The scooter as well as GTS continued to be sold till the early eighties.

Incidentally, the Bobby producer Raj Kapoor's sister was married to the Escorts owner.

awini is out riding the bobby and enjoyin every bit of it...
well is seems iv sparked quite an interest in the booby... perhaps someday we can start a bobby club and ask escorts and rk studios to sponser it... maybe have dimple and rishi kapoor as guests of honour.... till then, im looking for another bobby, because my 4and a half year old son loves the bike, and i have another child coming soon, so im planning for the future and will leave one for each of them, its certainly going to be pretty cool to own by the time they grow up!! its the coolest ever indian bike.... the RD and Yezdi 350s are macho... not cool. like the difference between james bond and arnie....

You need to upload on a hosting site like Imageshack.us and then post the thumbnail forum link in your post.

Hi Karl if you want that ill get you as m not much keen about restoring it, i am more interested on bikes. Actually my friends father was having it and after retirement they sold it to some Kabadi just for 500, let me confirm whether its available or scrapped, if its not scrapped then just need to pay 500-1000 max and transportation and u r game.
