My intention is simple , help (others ) & get help.
For almost 11 years I am connected to the brand as an enthusiast & a car owner , I have gone through so many difficulties about maintaining the vehicle ( as a newbie ), it almost weares you out ( mentally, financially) . I dont want to see this happen to a fresh starter.( & for him to finally get rid of the car)
So if you want to join in , please do the following
1) add any piece of information you feel useful
2) try to get in addresses of people & part dealers etc.
3) put anything you feel worth sharing
Again please feel free to ask about your difficulties & questions, threr is always some solution waiting round the corner
Yours Sudarshan ( Rajubhai)

Thanks Rajubhai for your honest reply.
This will add lots of strength for aspiring owners like me.
I will certainly try to contribute in my capacity.

Guys, I had formed LRCOI on Facebook and we are a small number of Landy owners. If you want we can have the entire group shifted to TBHP.

I have a Defender 110, 1990 which had a 2.5na and now I have swapped it for a defender 200tdi engine with a Twisted performance upgrade, pumping it to 130bhp & 400nm of torque plus added a roverdrive to it.

I buy all my parts from L. R. Series - specialists in land rover, land rover series and range rover - gearbox, axle, transmission parts, spares and major units only. Lets make this group go forward. It would be great to have a nice Landy meet on a sunday in Bangalore, especially with so many Landys in Bangalore. I have another two friends who among themselves have four series Landys & another a 300tdi defender. Will post pictures of my landy soon. I am in for the LR Support Group.

Well a good idea but wait for some time, lets see how this thread carries on .
I will suggest that you maintain your group's own Identity because Face book is a Larger Sphere, here in BHP people will need to be members first of our Parent site (TEAM BHP ). so think over that
It DOES NOT MEAN that you are not welcome ,infact it will be an Asset if you join in .
I am sending some info about comman spares (Land Rover & other Indian vehicles)

Great initiative, Sudershan. Truly appreciate your outlook. Will endeavour to meet with you next time I'm in Poona. I own a '78 Series III Diesel (under restoration) and have the workshop manual and parts catalogue for it. Would copies of these be of any use?

Thanks , Do visit when you visit Pune, I have a collection of books which include the Land Rover workshp manual ,know as the Green Bible (AKM3648), the Haynes Land Rover diesel 'Owners workshop manual ' (Haynes 529) , along with other material . But it is always interesting & worth seeing other things also. So please Do visit .
My mo No. is 9421961047, ( also 9822888642, 7.00 am to 9.00 am & 8.00 pm to 10.00 pm ).
yours Sudarshan Vaidya ( Rajubhai)
P.S. The reason to take this initiative is
1) I have seen people getting frurestred & selling off vehicle due to lack of Information
2) Suffered a lot in the begining reason Lack of Info.
3) Seen people taking disadvantage of a poor owner, Again Lack of info avaible to the new owner
So decided to break the Ice, & make everything open to all.
Will you contribute ? Please.

Great to connect with you, Sudershan, and thanks for the invite. I'm actually from Poona, sorry Pune, (although not a Marathi Manoos!!) and am there every month. Will definitely meet up next time.

I'll also contribute to the cause of helping the genuine Land Rover owner in every possible way that I'm able to. You can count on me for that definitely - only please be a little indulgent/patient with me since I keep very punishing schedules in order to make a living.

However, just one word of circumspection, if you don't mind. There are many here masquerading as "enthusiasts" (a rather nebulous, and much abused, word these days) but are of dubious intent in reality and for some reasons have been escaping censure too. So, keeping in mind your very honourable intent of helping the genuine LR-guy get by the obstacles of ownership, we should not disclose the "local resources" openly.

Will share my numbers with you privately.

Regards,

Prabal

Hi , Prabal (& all) ,
You are correct about people posing as enthusiasts, its true but what we can do ?
I think transperency & openness is a right tool to fight with all evil intents.
That is why I have deliberetly chosen this path' Open To All '. In past I have suffered a lot because of peoples tendency ( sefish ) to hide information.
Though an all open approach has its limits .
There are always greater No. of people taking disadvantage of a facility ( be it a public or private) then the ones who are really Needy.
Then what we do ?
I have surely noted your suggestion , but I am yet to receive a bad experiance , at least from 'here', so lets hope for the best.
I had worked with a MNC in past , incidently the top bosses ( from U.K. &U.S.) were Landy owners . This guy (CEO),once told me & others ( when he came to know about my 2a), A Land Rover owner is always Prepared & goes Prepared.

Hello again Sudershan,

You are absolutely right about an open, common pool of information, which would enable everybody to benefit. I'm only saying that one has to guard against it's misuse. Yes, the question remains how does one guard against that, what to do, etc?

The simplest is that the contact details of spare parts resources in India should not be given on the forum openly . Believe you me, there are a bunch of nosey Parkers around who will just contact them to not necessarily buy anything but for various other reasons (the only benefit to themselves would be either some sadistic pleasure or profit from reselling/restoring). Yes, there are people here for profit also, even if they are a minority. But they have a fair number of the gullible ones eating out of their hands!

So, in the end the real Landy user will be left with either an unavailable spare part, or an unaffordable one.

There may be a n number of retailers around the world available on the net, but on the ground in India they are limited, and hence much more valuable. Let the wheeler-dealers find out about the resources/contacts the hard way, why give it to them on a platter. That's all I'm saying.

Otherwise, no harm in posting tricks, technical details, repair guides, alternate means/substitute replacements, etc. Just my humble opinion.

Sorry, if i come across like a bit of a cynic. I truly admire your spirit and am right behind you.

Okay, am off in a short while now. Got to hit the highway again to live the life of a travelling salesman. Back in three days, but will be on the net at times. Hopefully.

Ciao

Hello there Rajubhai,

My 109 came up for FC and she failed because of the green paint and the beautiful little dinks and scars no amount of explaining that she looks very unlike any military vehicle we have in the army because of the two tone color wheel and roof helped. So with regret I am in the process of changing to blue. I have to do this in 48 hours. ie by this evening. Hope to get the insides done later.

I am to appear before the RTO inspectors tomorrow.

Will let you know the outcome.
