A Phantom III new to India (last year I think). 3AZ78, a Barker landaulette (a rare body style in 1936). Derelict in the USA for over 50 years but now at least running in India. I am hoping to find out more. Steve

Been a while since I posted here. A Rolls Royce christened “Jewel of Asia”:

A Rolls-Royce chassis carrying an Indian-built body which has been delivered to the order of H.H. The Rajah of Pithapuram. The body, which was built by Simpson & Co., of Madras, is a " D' frontel limousine-landaulet framed in Indian timber with aluminium panels, the doors and windows being fitted with double frames. One set of frames are fitted with bevelled glass, the others with very fine brass gauze for Zenana use, allowing the occupants to see but not to be seen.
An electric fan is fitted for use when the car is standing.

Description reads as "Indian Hunting Car"
Chassis number: 76OR
Can anyone shed light on this? The description does not have Details of its Indian Provenance only that it was Exported out of India and was taken to Switzerland and was Owned by a certain JBA Kessler of Kent.

All that is known is that 76OR was taken to India ca 1940; and at some point returned to Austria and England. Has been in the Moray Motor Museum, Scotland for a long time.
The original owner (according to The Derby Phantoms) was J.B.A. Kessler

1920 Silver Ghost #102FW, originally a Maythorn Cabriolet, rebodied by Barker in 1922 to a Barker Cabriolet. Original owner is the Maharana of Dholpur.

The car remains in the Dholpur Garage, built in 1921 and is now part of the Dholpur Palace Hotel & Resort display.

Saw it during the Statesman rally earlier this year. Also the below write up from the internet:

This vintage car (chassis number 6UE) was bought by Rudyard Kipling much after he had returned to England from India. He used the car for six years before selling it to Kumar Ganga Dhar Bagla in London in 1927. Bagla transported it back to his estates in Calcutta (Kolkata) the same year. Since then, the car has remained in the possession of the family as part of its 'Debottar' estate that was founded by the grand sire, Raja Raibahadur Shew Bux Bagla, in 1884. The estate has a number of Satyanarayan temples built across the country, including Bengal, Gujarat and Rajasthan. Keeping the chassis and engine intact, the car’s body has now been remodeled into a chariot with a throne in which the family takes its Lord Krishna for a ride twice a year - once before Holi and then on the 18th day after his 'Birth' on Janmashtami, which usually falls in Bhadra in Indian calendar. It is a Hooper limousine. Rolls makes the chassis, engine and dashboard and then collaborates with body makers like Hooper.
