The car at the "Well of Cawnpore" is definitely chassis 2078 "Eastern Gem" which later went to Tonk. The other photo is very likely the same car as well.

Thanks to Karl for the information below

The car is identified as #GSR26, by none other than John Fasal, who never disappoints.

GSR26 is an ex-Kashmir RR 20/25 by Hooper.

Perhaps V.Narayanan can enlighten us on what that uniform is - an IAF crest on the breast, but no wings (except on lapel).

My (un)educated guess -- in the 1950s and 1960s the IAF had blazers with the IAF crest on the left breast pocket. These were for private use and for occasions that didn't demand the uniform. That's probably what he is wearing. As for the lapel crest -- never seen it in that position before. But it looks like the epaulette crest style used by the IAF on some very formal occasions as in the photo below except that the person in the RR photo is wearing it on his left lapel.

Re: Classic Rolls Royces in India

Does anyone recognise this 1938 Phantom III in a Khimsar Fort hotel a year or so ago?

The car is not 3CP76, which remains in Calcutta. I am told this Khimsar car is totally unrestored and in original finishes though.

This is very annoying. I haven't heard back from the Calcutta owner of 3CP76, so i will have to search again (and again and again!!)

I have just checked all my records and this car does not match any Phantom III that I know of being in India at any time! So, does anyone in India want to check with Khamsir Fort hotel and see if they can find out? Steve

Hopefully the info should be at hand in a day or two. Apparently they have two Classic RRs there (Khimsar Fort). One the owner refers to as the Mysore car and one as 20HP. The owner of the Cars/Hotel is out of country, but has promised to get the info across - thanks to a Petrolhead friend in Delhi.

Best Regards & Drive Safe

@ Steve Stuckey, I believe the owner has shared his personal contacts to be passed on to you. Please connect with him directly. He will be more than happy to clear the confusion.

He's a bit hesitant to the info to be in any "forum"

If you aren't able to connect, will be happy to assist.

Best Regards & Drive Safe

Re: Classic Rolls Royces in India

Hello Ram.
MANY MANY thanks. The owner has not been in contact with me yet (does he have my email address?), so I shall wait a few days to see if he does. I can of course provide a history of whichever car it is.
Steve
