On another note, is there any other retro-ish-looking helmet on the market you'd recommend for everyday city rides?

Haha, RE borrows a lot from Axor and SMK too. My own helmet, for example, the RE Street Prime, which I believe is RE's only ECE Certified offering (Other than the NH44), is a rebranded Axor Rage.

AFAIK, Axor and SMK are the only ones who have decent retro options at this price point. Check out the SMK Retro (RE NH44 essentially), link below:

The Axor Moto-X looks rad but has no visor and is not ECE rated. Fibreglass construction and under 1200g. So close!

How is the ventilation on this? I had a KYT earlier and replaced it with an SMK Typhoon Thorn. But the lack of ventilation is driving me crazy. Considering replacing it with a KYT TT Course since I've used the brand earlier and was very satisfied with my experience then.

I ordered the LS2Ff800 Strom from the pune store. There is no store in Erode stocking LS2 helmets and i couldn't wait to travel to Bangalore for the helmet. It is Rs. 11000 including shipping. Can't wait for the helmet to arrive

The ventilation on this is pretty decent. I can feel the air flowing. The helmet is not as round as I'd like though and I need a dark smoke visor.

Got meself a SMK Twister helmet at discount. Paid about 4k for it.
Been using it in city for the last 2 weeks.
It's comfortable, light (relatively), but loud as hell lol.
The main thing that I find astounding is how SMK is able to offer a helmet that's ECE/DOT/ISI certified + has a Pinlock30 visor + internal sun visor as well as having a plush finish.

Which would be a best budget (5-8k) range full face DOT/ECE/ISI helmet that one can buy? I am on the lookout for one to use for my city rides primarily and occasional long rides.

Also I am planning to visit Motoworld (near PSK, Lalbagh road). Is that a good shop?

Helmet looks good and having all the qualities you mentioned at that price range is great. Where did you buy this from? At what speeds do you see as it being loud?

MT, SMK, Axxor are 3 brands that come to mind in that range. Check them all out.

Bought it online from this website. I feel it's loud at 80kph and above mostly. It's not something that bothers me too much right now. Need to put in more usage.

Check out the following Helmets:
1. MT Blade 2 SV (7500Rs)
2. MT Thunder 3 Pro (6600Rs)
3. MT Targo (6250Rs)
4. MT Hummer (5250Rs)
5. Axor Apex/Street (4950Rs)
6. SMK Typhoon (4850Rs)
7. SMK Twister (3900Rs)

Bonus Addition: Ignyte IGN-7 (6499Rs)

Out of the aforementioned, do note that none of the MT Helmets come with a Pinlock Film in the box, meaning you'll have to spend roughly 2k over the price of the helmet to purchase the film. The Blade 2 SV and Thunder 3 Pro Helmets are, in addition to being ECE 22.05 Certified, also SHARP 4 Star Rated. In addition, all of MT's Helmet Shells are made up of Polycarbonate, as opposed to ABS Thermoplastic, wherein the former is much better in terms of impact absorption.

The Axors and SMKs are also great helmets at the price, and they include a built-in sun visor as well as a pinlock film in the price mentioned, making them extremely VFM.

The reason I mentioned the Ignyte IGN 7 is because it is one of the few helmets in India that has the ECE 22.06 Certification. Although the design doesn't particularly resonate with me, but maybe you'll like it XD.

If you are buying an MT, then do get it from Powersports International, as they are the authorised importers for the brand. They have a store in HSR Layout. For Axor and SMK, there are quite a few resellers.

What's the general consensus around KYT when comparing them to MT, SMK, Axxor in the sub 10k price range?

Hey Guys! I'm looking to upgrade my helmet and could use your help to make a decision here.

I'm currently using some cheap Gliders full face that I bought nearly 4 years ago; and faced a minor accident with it during pandemic. So it's long overdue for the upgrade. I kept waiting for ECE 22.06 helmets to roll out but it's taking longer than I expected.

I'd like to upgrade to a dual-sport or motocross helmet. But couldn't find any with a 22.06 certification under my budget which is 10k. Except the MT Thunder 4 which is slightly over my budget I could only find the Ignyte IGN 7. But both weigh a lot (over 1600g). Kindly let me know if there are any other options.

But I'm starting to think if I should just buy a decent helmet within 5k for the time being and save up for a really good one. I really like the design of Axor's Retro Moto-X and it has a fiberglass shell, which is surprising considering it is under 5k.

Thanks in advance for your input!

The SMK Stellar seems to come with ECE 22.06 certification. Falls well within your budget too and weighs in at 1450g. Do check it out. https://smkhelmets.com/helmet/full-f...stellar-skull/

Thanks! I did check out this one earlier, forgot to mention. 1450g perhaps is the weight of their ECE 22.05 version. The specs are all over the place in online descriptions. So I checked their catalogue, and it ranges from 1475-1600g. My size is large, which uses their larger shell. So, I'm afraid it'd weigh 1600g as well.

Looking at getting a new helmet myself. My current Axor Apex which is less than a year old, is still in great shape but there is one huge issue that I am facing and that is the noise at highway speeds. It is fine upto around 65-70kph but beyond that the noise is excessive and gets tiresome. So looking to sell this off and get someting which is quieter at highway speeds and also lighter preferably.

Requirements:

- Internal Sun visor
- Pinlock Visor
- Quieter at highway speeds
- Price under 10k

Looking for suggestions that meet these criteria. Also any ideas where old helmets can be sold off?

Hi Everyone, My helmet size is medium. Now I am looking to get a new helmet for the Ladakh ride, Axor Apex is current choice. So the question is : Must I upsize my helmet to Large size, in anticipation of the liners (thermal liner / Balaclava) I might be wearing in the mountains ?

regards Arun
