What's the general consensus around KYT when comparing them to MT, SMK, Axxor in the sub 10k price range?

They are decent quality helmets. I own a KYT TT Course helmet, whose safety I haven't tested personally (fortunately), but the ECE 22.05 and KYT's presence in motorsports gives some assurance about its safety aspect.
But do know that these are loud at even 80kmph on my 390 adv. Quality wise, the paint and liners feels okay and the box doesn't comes with the pinlock so you would have to spend around 2k more to get it.
And for me, it didn't fit my head shape as I get pressure points on my upper ear, so I am thinking of selling it and looking for another brand whose shape is better suited for my skull.

So looking to sell this off and get someting which is quieter at highway speeds and also lighter preferably.

Requirements:

- Internal Sun visor
- Pinlock Visor
- Quieter at highway speeds
- Price under 10k

First, get 3m foam noise reduction ear plugs from amazon. One pair can be reused daily for a month. You'll have to get used to this if budget is below 10k. It feels the same as driving with windows rolled up in a car for those who feel disconnected. But it's very helpful on highway speeds to cut noise out. I also had the apex but shifted to ls2 stream evo ff320 with dual visor. Sharp 4star rated, quiter and ece/isi as well. About 6.5k with all your requirements and an extra pinlock thrown in. Available on amazon as well from an authorized dealer.

Hi Everyone, My helmet size is medium. Now I am looking to get a new helmet for the Ladakh ride, Axor Apex is current choice. So the question is : Must I upsize my helmet to Large size, in anticipation of the liners (thermal liner / Balaclava) I might be wearing in the mountains ?

regards Arun

Don't upsize. The medium size foam of any helmet eventually loosens up with time(not a long time at that too). I use a medium ls2 myself with balaclava all the time. The large felt perfect for me but I knew it'll just loosen more with time. It should be a tight snug fit in my opinion like gloves.
Pay the extra 1 or 2k and get ls2. Having unfortunately crash tested the ls2 320,I can vouch for its quality over axor any day. I already have 2 axors for grocery runs. Inner visor mechanism broken, foam keeps coming out of place near neck and D ring has failed on me during normal use multiple time. This is typical Vega quality. Smk is better if you're going for indian brand.

So very true. It’s now getting to a point where your eyes burn on city roads now.

Yew..thanks for the heads up. Had removed LS2 from my options due to the chineese build fakes in the market.

So the search begins again : Will check out SMK, LS2 (don't know where in Kerala I can get hold of an original) and MT.

How is Ignyte IG 4 ?

Thanks and regards, Arun

Ignyte is Steelbird's DOT brand. Not ECE certified(ECE being better than DoT). Smk sells SHARP and ECE certified models in the Uk(like LS2) under different name so that's preferred over other Indian brands. Ignyte should be better than Axor i guess.

Hey Neil,

A bit late here, i have also picked up the FF800 and i completely agree on all the points you have noted down. Now my worry is the rains with this helmet, the top vent is directly exposed to the rain, looks like i will have to keep the vent closed during the rains :coldsweat, the fear of rain water getting into the helmet.

My first helmet was a LS2 (retired early with a crash) and then a MT thunder 3, retired the MT within 2 year's due to having a few hits including but hit by a billboard and the visor getting scratched very easily with good care.

Cheers,
Dhruv Shetty.

I got my LS2 storm ff800 helmet today. I ordered from the Pune dealer and it was delivered today. This being my first LS2, I am pretty happy with it. The fit is snug, as it should be, and it is decently quiet as well. There is a pinlock given along with it. It is a decent buy at Rs. 11,000 including shipping.
Cheers

Thank you Senotrius for making me reconsider.

I am now torn between MT Thunder 4 and LS2 Storm FF 800.

Thanks for the suggestion, but....I wouldn't touch open face and modular helmets, even with a long polerl:

regards Arun

Having experienced both I would lean towards LS2 Storm FF 800

Avoid modular when possible, especially for touring purposes or long commutes. FF800 is also kind of the YouTube(bike vlogger) pick btw. Don't think MT is as good as LS2 in my opinion having owned one previously.

Any update on the AGV's India homologation?
While I want to get it imported either by hand carrying or ordering from sites like fc-moto, I am unable to try these on before making call as no shop have any inventory left with them.
If they are made available locally, even if the quality is sub par, at least I get an idea of size and shape tp get it from somewhere else.

MiSiMa
