I cannot judge if it was the driver's fault since there may be a possibility that he was driving up an incline which might've affected his head-on visibility thereby not spotting the sleeping canine as others have stated. However, I totally condemn his sheepish getaway post the incident and the complicit attitude of the policeman just because it was a stray animal. I personally had experienced a relevant if not similar incident recently and I tended to the poor soul till it breathed its last. That is the least one can do or should I say, it's the least one ought to do!

I can't stomach them either but curiosity always gets the best of me

Maybe we can spoiler-tag them? Do we have that feature?

He is lucky to be alive. No helmet too. 1st year engineering student. Could easily have broken a rib or two given the speed and nature of impact with the stone slab.

That said, between the auto driver and the rider, I would put the blame on the rider.

He seems to be taking a left turn over there. He has no business coming in that fast when he has no sight of the road ahead looks like. Had it been a slow moving bullock cart in the middle of the road, he would've endured a similar fate. As for the auto driver, where else can he possibly take a U-Turn?
I wouldn't put the blame on the bike rider entirely. Sure, he was at fault for not wearing a helmet and over-speeding within city limits but the auto driver had no right to take a U-turn with such nonchalance. I wonder if he'd even looked up on the road ahead until just a fraction of a second from the moment of impact let alone watching his RVMs! If he had indeed then it's purely lack of judgement on his part as to the amount of clearance he should've left to let the bike pass through.

I'm in no defense of the auto guy hogging down on the wrong side but when are people going to learn the basic rules of crossing roads??

We iz supposed to walkz. Run iz NO!!!

Re: À Tata tipper truck crashes into a Jaguar

From the photo (right front side of Jaguar crushed), and from general observation of drivers (especially of fancy cars) on two-lane roads, Sankar's explanation above looks likely enough. There are too many people with more money than (road) sense spending obscene amounts on these "sporty" cars and driving them in a totally inappropriate manner for these roads. Consider also the recent Aston Martin driver in Delhi who swerved to avoid a dog and totalled his car -- I can't be persuaded that this would have happened if he had been driving at a safe speed. But in that incident, at least, nobody else was hurt. In this case my sympathies are with the tipper lorry driver, not at all with the Jaguar driver/owner.

The tipper driver swerved his truck to the left to save the Jaguar and while doing so crashed into the concrete compound wall. The truck's axle was ripped off as a result of crashing into the wall
That would be the one sane explanation. Sympathies with the poor truck driver. 😇

Re: À Tata tipper truck crashes into a Jaguar

This is an exaggerated story. The tipper has not suffered any body damage but its front axle got disengaged from the chassis. The Jaguar had extensive damage though looks quite simple., The tipper would be restored in pretty quick time. The acident occurred near Palai.

Tipper driver behaved like a true Professional.
It takes many years to learn and perform, precise decision when needed.

I have nothing to add except saying Hat's off to the Tipper driver.

Re: À Tata tipper truck crashes into a Jaguar

Its a good thing that topic has moved away from whose fault it was, else the truck driver might have been blamed if the damage was more serious to the car.

Re: À Tata tipper truck crashes into a Jaguar

This happened near to where I live, the Jaguar driver was the one who erred. I would say the truck driver has to be thanked for saving this stupid. Some exaggerated stories is that the Jaguar has destroyed the Tipper! There are lot of morons with money behind the wheel.

" Hit and run ends bad in Thodupuzha, Kerala.*
Four cars involved. Two dead, nine injured

Reports say that the Santro had hit a two wheeler a kilometer back and they were on the run. The car went out of control and crashed into the Quails coming opposite and then crashed into yet another oncoming car. The Santro also got rear ended by another vehicle.
Two passengers(both residents of Hyderabad), travelling in the Santro died on the spot. "

Looking at the pics, looks (most certainly looking at the properly build deviders in first pic.) this has to be a four lane road & one of the vehicles is on the wrong side. Cab in my calculations. Look at the third pic, there is traffic coming towards the photographer behind all the by-standers.
If this is the case with full sympathy, the cab driver learned the lesson to respect traffic rules in the hardest possible way & that too to-waste. RIP.

re: Accidents in India | Pics & Videos

This one happened opposite to SRM Engineering college on Chennai bypass.
A container truck lays on its side perpendicular to the road covering half of the lanes on either sides of the median. A poor Alto seems to have its nose stuck under the cabin of the truck crushing half of the Alto up to its B pillar into pulp. There was an Ambulance exiting the scene.

Sorry for the poor picture quality as i took these whilst travelling.

Agreed, things would have been different if it had rear fixed axle of the truck.

Whats with people competing with damage during an accident!

I trust this is the 5th accident in two weeks within the same stretch. Out of this, I myself saw 3 accidents - all involving trucks!

Agree, with Chennai expanding, Chengalpet Chennai stretch has a lot of traffic. I believe the should have connected the new ring road to SP Kovil rather than Vandalur. This will ensure that the truck traffic is diverted out of this busy stretch. Once the overbridge near Vandalur zoo is complete, the signal is going to get even more chaotic than it is today. So we will have bottlenecks at both Perungalathur and Vandalur.
