I recently drove to Goa from Hyderabad and found stretch from Bagalkot to Belgaum just amazing to drive. Wind Mills, Green farms and gentle slopes combined with generally non-existing traffic aids to the whole experience

Re: The Best Roads In India

In general, the State Highways of TN where I have driven a lot are very good indeed and some of them, if my memory serves me right, were shade better than the National Highways as well

Re: The Best Roads In India

Zero potholes! When did you experience a long stretch of perfectly paved well laid out road?
Last week I had a round trip from Kharghar(Navi Mumbai) - Solapur - Indi(Vijayapura, Karnataka) in my humble Tigor, in this 1000+kilometer of tour in in 3 days I encountered a stretch of road which was completely free from any kind of potholes, cracks, undulations and rough/scraped surfaces. The guideline strips were properly painted with ample night reflection and the road was butter smooth to drive. This is NH65(earlier NH9) Pune - Hyderabad via Solapur that I am talking about and the stretch of road is between Pune and Indapur, a 113km perfectly laid out road, the blissful drive is a surreal experience. Here is a snip shot of the route of good stretch:

The road is in spick condition on either side of travel, I was surprised by this as I always expect potholes, and scraped surfaces on National Highways and State Highways(at least in Maharashtra). Believe me even the contractor can claim here that this is a 'zero' defect road and can brag about it! One should drive on it to understand my level of excitement about this road.
Attaching a few pictures of this road, kindly excuse the not so good clarity as the pictures were taken by co passenger with a basic phone camera and okayish photography. I always refrain from handling Mobile/Camera while driving hence could not take good pics, and tight schedule did not allow me to halt for pictures.

Re: The Best Roads In India

Just drove from Bangalore to Goa (South) and except for 30kms of very narrow and very average roads, the rest of the 600kms was very smooth and reached in 9hrs (a new record for me atleast).

The road from Bangalore to the outskirts of Dharwad are wide but boring, although you can reach some crazy speeds and was not disappointed esp. with my trusty and (near vintage) Civic.

The road from Karwar to South Goa is really nice and reminds me of the other fav. drive from Bangalore to Udipi which is around 400kms.

Re: The Best Roads In India

The Chittoor - Tirupati highway.

Earlier it was a 2-lane undivided road, now a 6-lane divided carriageway. Except for about 10 km where the old road remains as earlier (work is on-going on those stretches too), the roads are excellent.
