+1 to your views. Even 4 years back, it took me 15 hours from Somajiguda to Vartak Nagar, Thane on my Fiesta.

This included 2 hours stop for breakfast and lunch, and the horrendous truck traffic from Mohol to Indapur, not to mention the evening traffic from end of Expressway till Thane.

If the sugar cane season is over, PUNE HYD is perfectly doable in 9 hrs or even say 10 hrs.

Early morning start from PUNE say 5 AM would see you at Sholapur by 9 or 930 AM. This was done in November 2011. Regarding the four laning in progress between Pune and Indapur, one half was completed by then, for the most part, freshly laid tarmac, one can easily maintain 100kmph on these stretches.

Assuming we reach Solapur by 10 AM, from there it can take another 5 hrs to reach Hyderabad by 2 PM. One needs to watch out for the craters in the homanabad section.

re: Mumbai - Hyderabad : Route Queries

I did Andheri East, Mumbai to Liberty Circle, Hyd in 12 hours, point to point. 6AM to 6PM. took the longer mum-pune-satara-pandharpur-solapur-zaheerabad-hyd ORR-gachibowli-mehdipatnam-liberty route. 800kms. This was dec 27,2011.
I found very little traffic on the satara - pandharpur stretch, save for 1-2 villages and would recommend it. Road surface is broken and having a large car helps.
Pune - Hyd is definitely do-able in 9-10 hours, in my opinion.

re: Mumbai - Hyderabad : Route Queries

Did Mumbai-Hyd via Pune-Satara-Koregaon-Pusegaon-Gondawale-Mhaswad-Pandharpur-Mohol-NH9-Solapur-Homnabad-Hyd

Roads were excellent throughout.Till Satara was a breeze.Satara-Pandharpur is also in excellent condition and the road is wide.A small bad stretch in Mhaswad town for about a km,but otherwise, speeds of 80-100kph.Crossing Pandharpur was easy as well,as the road bypassed the town and directly connected me to the Mohol tolled road.

Borivli-Vashi Creek: 1hr (via EEH)

Vashi Creek-Pune EW End:1hr.45mins

PuneEW End-Khed Shivapur Mcdie:1hr.10mins

Mcdie Break:45mins

KShivapur-Satara:1hr 30mins

Satara-Pandharpur : 2hrs

Pandhar-Mohol:20mins

Mohol-Solapur:40mins

Lunch break at Nisarga,Solapur:45mins-Dirty place-excellent food.Next time will stop at Junglee, better place.

Solapur BP-Patancheru: 4.5hrs

I would suggest the pandharpur route.
Pune-Satara 1.5hrs
Satara Pandharpur-1.5 to 2hrs
ppur Mohol- 20mins
Mohol Solapur 45mins
Solapur Patancheru 4.5hrs

You could fill up at thr BP COCO pump at Solapur to your left.Eating joints hardly exist on the NH9.You would find some restaurants before Solapur town.cleanliness is a big issue though.Carry food if possible.Overall you should do this route in about 10 to 11hrs.Where in Hyd are you headed to?

Avoid pandharpur route for next 15 days.
Pandharpur route is crowded due to Palkhi and oncoming Aashadhi ekadashi.
Better go via NH9 directly or via baramati till indapur and NH9 onwards.

Thanks for this very valid update. I just also read news that there is going to be a huge rush in pandharpur for the Ekadashi festival. So I guess I am going to stick to NH-9.

Any ideas what will be the best time to leave Pune.

Similarly what will be the best time to leave Hyd for returning to Pune.

Will update on the route once I am back.

Hyd-Pune best time to leave would be around 4am,which means you would reach Solapur by about 830 and Pune by about 2pm.

Pune-Hyd,leave Pune only around 5am-6am,when there is daylight as the many diversions on NH9 makes it totally not-reccomended to drive in the dark.Budget for a 10-12hr drive to Hyd.

re: Mumbai - Hyderabad : Route Queries

Did a HYD-MUMBAI trip yesterday and finally some good news about this route.4 laning complete all the way from Indapur till Hadapsar.Indapur bypass is also open for traffic now.Bhigwan flyovers not ready yet.

Drive Timing:

HYD-Solapur: 4hours

Solapur-Hadapsar:4hours

Hadapsar-Dehu Rd:1.5hrs

Dehu Rd-Panvel:1.5hrs

Panvel-Vashi Creek-EEW-Powai-Vikhroli-Jogeshwari-Borivali:1.5hrs

Road Conditions:

Patancheru-Sangareddy: Fair, rough tarmac has begun to show up,speeds of 80kph-100kph possible

Sangareddy-Zaheerabad:Rough and chipped off tarmac at places

Zaheerabad-Homnabad:Around 30kms before Homnabad, road is terribly potholed, there just no road, its just one pothole to another.

Homnabad-Basavakalyan:Potholes continue,but frequency reduces

Basavakalyan-Naldurg-Solapur:Fair,80-100kph

Solapur-Mohol:Road quality is excellent, only one side of the new road open, but speeds of 80kph

Mohol-Temburni:Again road quality excellent, but speed of 80-100 can be maintained.Since the new road is wide, overtaking trucks is not a problem anymore

Crossing Temburni is still a problem.

Indapur-Hadapsar:Fast road,4 laning completed constant speeds of 100kph can be easily maintained.

Plenty of restaurants and that too clean ones opened on the 4laned Indapur and also before Temburni.

Overall the HYD-Solapur took 4 hours and Solapur-Pune took 4hours.Finally a below 10hour drive is easily possible from HYD to Pune.Stopped for refuelling after Mohol, and 20minute breakfast at Temburni and a couple of bio break stops. In my opinion, people can stop taking the alternative routes via Baramati and Pandharpur now and stick to the NH9 from now on.

re: Mumbai - Hyderabad : Route Queries

Dear Teambhpians,

I'm planning to do a Mumbai Hyderabad drive this month.

Kindly let me know if this plan looks realistic :

1. 4 AM Start - Kandivali
2. 7:30 - Cross Pune and get onto the hadapsar solapur road.
3. 12:30 PM - Reach Solapur.
4. Break for 60 mins (lunch, restroom etc).
5. Start from Solapur at 1:30 PM - Reach ORR Hyderabd 6:30 PM
6. Reach Ramanthapur by 8:00 PM

I am actually interested in figuring out if point # 3 is doable in five hours, do we have any new updates on the indapur - tembruhni section.

Ashish and Ranjit Sir - pls help

Will be driving a vento tdi, with family.

Cheers,
Udiboy

Hi Udiboy,
I did Hyd-Pune last week. Hadapsar-Solapur is a very comfortable 5 hrs drive. In fact, it is a good 4 hour drive even in the night - so for you during the daytime, it should not be an issue at all.

Many sections in Indapur-Solapur sector are open both sides which helps in overtaking the very slow moving trucks and keeping an avg of 50-60 very comfortably.

The road surface is good throughout... (except probably 1 or 2 stretches of 1 kms where the old surface is still being used).
