The challan says recorded speed is 102/104. Do you really think that they will subtract 5 and then only print? looks very unlikely to me. I would expect them to start issuing challans only if it crosses 105 rather than subtracting and showing information. By any chance, is there any link for the article which says 5 km/h tolerance is allowed ? (by police)

I am not sure, may be it is there, pls give a try searching and let us know if you find something.

I mentioned based on my experience what I have seen myself and by others. Also at some places there are displays overhead which usually displays 5km/h less that what you seen on the ODO. So with all that, it is inferred to be doing it that way.

It is better they follow that way of keeping a buffer upfront rather than issue and print challans 105km/h onwards only, which might cause actually a confusion.

I think this is an intentional error on the ODO and followed by all car makers. The rule is that the speedometer should never display less than the actual speed. So there is always a buffer which should not be more than 10% of the actual speed.

I found an old thread on this topic in team-bhp: https://www.team-bhp.com/forum/india...ate-speed.html (Speedometer calibration: Government says that vehicle should overstate speed)

Somehow finding it very dangerous when bunch of cars doing around the same speed ~90 km/h, You often get into such pockets quite frequently during holidays.
And when someone decides to get away from that zone, he/she will switch lane giving a careful throttle and overtakes steadily. Feels very uncomfortable to drive in parallel for a long time.

One good thing though is the AWESOME mileage figure you get, for a 2.0 engine, this is SWEET...

Re: Bangalore - Mysore Expressway Thread

Had to drive to Mysore for a function and had a pleasant drive both ways. I left Friday afternoon from South Bengaluru and made it to Mysore ring road junction in a little more than 90mins, still getting very good FE for the 1.5TSI. I did stick to the 100kmph speed limit except for a few overtaking bursts. Like someone mentioned here, while the overall drive is now very relaxing, there are few scenarios where there are clusters of cars doing 90kmph and occupying all lanes. I had set 105kmph on cruise control and maybe had to disengage 2-3 times at the most.
Onward journey

Return journey was from Mysore center to my house hence higher distance

On the way back, slightly higher traffic which means more overtaking bursts and an elevation increase dipped the FE slightly, but I was also pretty aggressively driving above 100. Somehow havent received any sectional speeding ticket so far. No major flaws except for a few cars missing exits and reversing slowly on the shoulder. On the way back I definitely expected a fine or two with a good picture of us, but missed the opportunity mostly

Re: Bangalore - Mysore Expressway Thread

I travel to and from Mysore - Bangalore every weekend and usually set the cruise control. Most of the time I stick to the limit, but during urgency situations, may need to cross it. So I increase speed somewhere in between where straight roads are available and then back to original speed (of course I know each and every camera location and slow down beforehand. Also I use the radarbot app which tell in advance of 200m for an approaching camera point). Till date, its been more than a 50 times of up and downs and haven't received a single "sectional violation" fine. Therefore was wondering if it is really implemented or was it just a fake WhatsApp hype. Having a regular first hand experience of the highway, I can say that most of the things on that highway don’t work and the toll and exit points are one of the worst design that I ever saw, and the loopholes can legally be exploited very well. But still to this date, I believe that "sectional violation" is either poorly implemented or not functioning properly at all. Any thoughts from anyone who got such sectional violation ticket?

Re: Bangalore - Mysore Expressway Thread

Folks who have been travelling on the expressway of late - How is the situation on the expressway during these incessant rains? Does it still flood like it used to last year?

We will be driving to Kabini on Friday, so curious.

You need to worry about the roads after Mysore

No flooding, just that Resorts in Kabini are located in places with questionable road access, that is the charm of it of course.

Stay in the center lane on tollway, keep the speed @ 80 kmph if there is standing water on the road and you`ll be fine.

There are no major rains expected after tomorrow as the cyclone induced rains will be over in these areas today or latest tomorrow. So the roads should be fine. Only thing to keep in mind is that some heavy rains are happening in Wayanad due to the cyclone effect and this can cause heavy flow in the Kabini River. Should not be a concern, but just something to keep in mind.

So would you suggest better to avoid the River safari and instead go for the Jungle safari? Travelling with a hyper-active toddler so was iffy on the River safari anyways.

If you are in the bigger boat, its very roomy and you can move around quite a bit, its safe too. Keeping the toddler quiet in the Jeep ride that spans several hours can be difficult.

Take the smaller boat if you have a camera, it can get close to the shore, larger boat for kids \ family.

As Kosfactor mentioned above, should not be an issue. I went in July end and even at that time the river safaris and boating related stuff was running. River safari is probably a better bet for you, your toddler and all the other co-passengers.

Re: Bangalore - Mysore Expressway Thread

This was in The Hindu print edition on 9/12 in Bangalore:

Bengaluru-Mysuru Highway reports sharp decline in road fatalities after ATMS implementation

Quote:
The BMEW recorded a significant drop in road fatalities, from 188 in 2023 to 50 in 2024, after the installation of the ATMS in July 2024.
Really heartening news (though sceptics must still look for a causal relationship - it can't be that 100% of the drivers started driving responsibly as soon as the ATMS was turned on).

Re: Bangalore - Mysore Expressway Thread

Another reason for this could very well be that quite a few motorists may be avoiding this stretch, either by taking sections of the service road or driving through the Malavalli route(thereby reducing traffic) - just hazarding a guess here.

Re: Bangalore - Mysore Expressway Thread

Close call on Bangalore - Mysore Expressway

I travelled back to Bangalore from Mysore yesterday and had a near miss with a KSRTC when I was casually cruising near the speed limit in the centre lane which is the fast lane.

As you can see in the video below, there are multiple things wrong here. The Creta is driving at around 90kmph on the right lane, which is the overtaking lane and shouldn't be used unless you are overtaking. Heavy vehicles, including buses, should stick to the left lane (slow lane) and should not enter the centre lane (fast lane) or the right lane (overtake lane) unless they are overtaking. The KSRTC bus driver suddenly decided to take the fast lane (without checking the mirrors or giving an indicator) even though the lane ahead of him was completely empty.

As soon as my reflexes kicked in, I slammed on the brakes, the Scorpio N with disc brakes all around and 255-section tyres screeched due to the amount of deceleration. Luckily, since there was no one in the right lane, I could swerve and avoid the crash. I thought of slowing him down and letting him know what he did, but later decided not to as you can never change such people and it is never a good idea to stop on an E-Way.

Imposing silly speed limits is not the solution to avoid accidents in a country where people just don't understand lane discipline. I'm sorry, but Indians can never have an Autobahn experience, even if the roads are as good as the Autobahn!
