If you read the last couple or pages, there have been posts discussing the lane based speed limit. I do not see how this can be enforced fairly given that we do not follow lanes based on speed - sometimes we have fast moving vehicles in left (slow) lane as well as slow moving vehicles in right (fast lane) , hence my theory that lane based speed challans are not enforced.

On Independence Day, I was part of a Harrier owners group drive and I was leading the group of 7 cars during onward journey and we tried stay in a convoy as much as possible so we stuck to much slower speeds on the left lane and used the middle lane only to overtake the extremely slow snail like moving vehicles (and there were many of those!).

There are also couple of sections where speed limit boards on the median mention 80kmph (no vehicle type mentioned) which is confusing.

Re: Bangalore - Mysore Expressway Thread

Out of 89000 tickets in last few months, only 5000 odd have paid the fines. There will be more police at exit to collect fines.

They have started issuing speeding tickets on NH48. Its ludicrous that they have kept the limit at 80kmph . My friend got a ticket between Sira and Tumkur for driving at 110kmph on this section and police stopped him on the next toll booth to collect the fine.

Given the current trend, it won't be long before every car owner in the state gets fined, even if their car is parked at home. Anecdotally, this reminds me of my engineering college days. There were times when every student had to pay fines of 500-600 rupees, regardless of any wrongdoing or violation, to be eligible to collect their hall ticket for exams . This was jokingly referred to as the 'development fee' by the students, although we were unsure whether it benefitted any 'particular individual' or the institution. No one had the courage to question the college administration, not that it would have made a difference. The situation now doesn’t seem too different.

I had mailed them two weeks back. I checked today and the challan have disappeared. I didn't get any response to the mail I sent. So, I am not sure if they double-checked the sectional speed calculation.

Despite the discontent some of us may have on speed enforcement, as long as they do the enforcement accurately so that drivers have full control, we need to appreciate it. The stats shared by ADGP sir shows that it is actually saving lives, and totally justifies the enforcement.

There are still some signs which say 80 followed by another saying 100 few metres apart. Hope they clean up the signs and make it less confusing.

Took one of my cars with no cruise control and was not that bad. The whole traffic seems so well behaved with everyone driving great So its all about effective enforcement

Oh! I travelled up to Channapatna and back on 17th August via the expressway. I was super-confused by all the signs saying 100kmph limit for cars and 80kmph painted on the middle-lane!
I thought I was the only idiot who couldn't figure out what exactly was the speed-limit (a lot of cacophony inside the car with family & toddler added to my inability to process various road signs)
So, I stuck to a boring 80kmph in the middle-lane frustrating the hell out of other drivers and my family

I'm glad I'm not alone in this confused state.

Re: Bangalore - Mysore Expressway Thread

I need to take this route again this coming week. This is my first time taking it after the speed limits are enforced. Can I cruise at 95 kmph in middle lane all through out to avoid the fines? Or is 80 KMPH the limit in middle lane ?

I can confirm that, from my own experience and information shared in various forums by authority that there’s is no lane speed enforcement. What’s unclear, what matters for cruising at 95kmph, is whether the sectional speed measurement is now accurate. I have a detailed post earlier in this forum on this.

There is no lane speed enforcement, I've driven at 94kmph cruise control all the way few times and have havent received any fines. The speed camera display shows 90kmph when I pass under it

I liked my experience of the Expressway last weekend. It is definitely much better than before and largely it appears that the recent enforcement of overall speed limits has acted positively as a deterrent to our errant motorists as far as their proclivity towards lunatic speeds and racing and weaving are concerned.
However, motorists of all kinds still do not have any knowledge or respect for lane discipline. A lot of the road users straddle two lanes in a blase manner until one honks at them and even then they move aside very reluctantly. And they give you a strange look to boot. This is because of sheer ignorance as well as digital or otherwise distraction.
The authorities across India, should simply punish lane indiscipline and they should also enforce lane speed limits.
I would hazard that 90% of our traffic woes in India would vanish if only people would follow plain and simple lane discipline.

Re: Bangalore - Mysore Expressway Thread

Had a nice ride on the Blore-Mys expressway service road on Saturday. I left quite early on my motorcycle to visit Payana Musuem and Chamundi hills and was bracing for an annoying ride.
On the contrary, It was like having a private lane for two wheelers with hardly any other vehicles on the service road. Most of the times it was just me. The only annoying part were the number of speed breakers, but that was okay.
There were plenty of bikers most of them KL registered probably heading home for the long weekend. I was able to keep a steady speed of 80-85. There were 4 towns where the old road had to be used through the town and that was again with low traffic. There were times I used to hate traveling on this route because of the congestion in these towns.
The best part was that I had easy access to all the eateries on the way and could stop whenever I wanted. On the return, I rejoined the service road at Maddur having taken the route via Malvalli from Mysore. On hindsight, I should have taken the service road right from Mysore since Mysore - Malvalli was patchy.

A bikers only level crossing at Chanapatana.

Re: Bangalore - Mysore Expressway Thread

Everyone driving between 80-100, Not much of overtaking or rash driving. The crowd is spread out on the road I felt. Earlier there used to be an empty strech and then a group of cars like a traffic jam at 60kmph speed. It is boring to keep the speedo at 100, cruise control is a boon, but very less frustrating drive.

AI camera are helping with road safety.

I agree. I did a second trip on Saturday (14/9) to Calicut since the new fine regime was implemented. Now it is a very predictable 75 minute drive with cruise control set to 100 kmph and 0 fines. I had to disengage CC only a handful of times (twice at the toll booths, and maybe 2-3 times elsewhere).

I'm returning tomorrow, don't expect anything different. My loss in the fine regime is 10 minutes, which I can live with considering the drive till Calicut is of 7 hours.
