Most restaurants in Krishnagiri-Hosur section open around 6:45-7am and would probably be closed when you’re driving in towards Bangalore.

When you exit NICE road at Kengeri, I think Kadambas is just there and that could be an option, after that the expressway begins and you’d be better off exiting at Mysore and then having breakfast, Kalyani on the Mysore ring road will be good since you exit the expressway and this is en route as you’re headed towards Coorg.

Re: Bangalore - Mysore Expressway Thread

How many got stuck yesterday on Mysore - Bengaluru expressway in the evening?

It was a chaos right from Chennapatna with heavy rains, spotted couple of serial accidents, water logging in almost all places and 3 lane expanded to 6 lane on one side, people driving in all direction on service roads and what not!

One hell of a drive it was!

Clearly shows that the expressway does not have proper drainage system in place!

Re: Bangalore - Mysore Expressway Thread

Yeah I got stuck too! Last night between 7 to 8:30

There was water logging on flyovers at multiple places on left side. All traffic going through narrow lane near median. Not sure how this happened as water can easily drain to the land surface below

There were 2 accidents also along with water logging. Entire stretch was a chaos

I also observed lot of eateries coming up right next to expressway, practically blocking left lane. It should little bit far inside with proper entry and exits like we see on Mumbai Pune expressway

Re: Bangalore - Mysore Expressway Thread

We just did a Sunday morning onwards drive to Mysore and return on Monday afternoon, both via the expressway. Onwards, traffic was easily manageable, only issue was people not maintaining lane discipline based on speed, many right lane hoggers going slow. We also saw many cars zoom way past the 100 speed limit. We visited Chamundeshwari temple and then while getting into Mysore city, cops stopped us and it seemed like they were targeting non Mysore (KA 09) cars, but what takes the cake was the reason. When I asked the constable, he said Sahibru (the inspector) is checking if there are any pending fines! I told him there were none even 2-3 days ago when I checked last, then the inspector confirmed the same (he was checking using a tablet) and asked me to move on.
I saw more checks around Mysore and most cars that were stopped were from Bangalore.

Return on Monday was also quite peaceful with a 1:15 pm start from Manipal hospital junction. Again, lots of cars going way over speed limit.
The exit signs are too close to the exit itself so many cars suddenly brake and change one or two lanes to exit, very dangerous.

Once we descended the expressway, chaos started all the way till MG Road and we took more than an hour to reach home.

Re: Bangalore - Mysore Expressway Thread

Yesterday, 3rd June, while coming from Mysore, at Maddur exit (the one you take for Empire, Shivalli and other restaurants) there were two traffic cops checking documents. They were especially interested in pollution certificate. I think we will see more instances of such surprise checks from now on.

Also, especially around the bridges/culverts there is water logging which caught drivers by surprise. If not taken care of, this can lead to accidents. It's better to stay on the middle lane when it's raining.

Re: Bangalore - Mysore Expressway Thread

Hello All,

My observations on this rainy day on the Mysore Expressway.

1) Obviously we Indians don't care of the Lanes and the speed limits. In a 100 km speed limit lane, most vehicles are maintaining speeds between 60 and 80 kmph. It's noteworthy that the speed camera continues to display a green signal. Ideally, if a car is traveling below 80 kmph, it should be in the middle lane, with the camera indicating any deviations from this norm by displaying a red signal. However, this corrective measure seems to be absent in current systems.

2) Drivers do window shopping. There was a minor incident where a car with hazard lights was parked on the left lane due to an accident. I was surprised to see a Swift car with a "Live to Drive" sticker, though likely not genuine Team-BHP, just to see the accident scene suddenly slow down without using hazard lights or signs of caution. In heavy rain, I was behind him at 70 KMPH and honked loudly for him to move. He reacted angrily, honking when I overtook him. I stayed calm and continued. He should realize his actions could cause accidents rather than getting offended and retaliating.

These kind of scenarios really confuse me if we are really ready for thee express ways and the taxes we are paying are really fruitful. I came to the conclusion that for us even the 8 lanes will not change our fate.

Re: Bangalore - Mysore Expressway Thread

Had a Mysore-and-back run from Bangalore during the week end. Towards Mysore; entered the express way at 0601Hrs and exited at 0710Hrs. May be it was because of early morning hours, number of vehicles on the road was less and also much disciplined. I did not over speed, and this may be one of the best laid back drives I had. And yet I could reach Mysore in an hour and thirty mins. Return trip started Sunday afternoon and at 1322Hrs entered the express way. Exited at 1430Hrs, and there was the usual bottleneck from the down ramp till the NICE road exit. The return jounrey was a bit tough due to steady drizzle all through the way. There was also water logging at places. The dangerous part (for me) was the vehicle going in front suddenly splashing large quantity of water across my wind shield. It hits by surprise and there is also complete lack of visibility for 1-2 seconds. Avoided that by keeping a very safe distance from other vehicles.

Did not find the Mandya's finest or Mysore's finest in action during both drives. On Sunday there was some big function in Mysore and the Traffic Police seemed to be busy with the bandobust. Need to check if the speed camers enroute have clicked me.

What the hell?! Driving pretty aggressively on the opposite side and that too in the fast lane. Should be made a clear example of.

Re: Bangalore - Mysore Expressway Thread

There is a new HariGovindas restaurant opened inside the Payana Car Museum complex. Large place , open 6am to 10pm. Independent of the museum itself. Best thing is that there is an exit/entry from the expressway right at this location. So no deviations needed. Being close to to the end/beginning of the expressway, a good location for a stop. Been open for a month as per the folks there. Visited today at 8am and being a weekday morning, was empty. First impression of the food is that it is very good. Decent restrooms also.

Re: Bangalore - Mysore Expressway Thread

Faced a harrowing 2 hours between the BU area and Bidadi today all because of the BJP rasta roko drama.
https://www.thenewsminute.com/amp/st...aders-detained

It was utter mayhem, but I guess we were still lucky as we could take a diversion and rejoin the BME later. As per Google Maps, there was 11 miles of stationary traffic in the main carriageway section that we managed to bypass!

On the BME itself:

Faced a lot of crazy folks driving like mad because presumably they got held up earlier.
BME itself was blissful with the cruise control set to 98 km/hr.
Signages seemed much improved since my trip when it newly opened. However, was a little concerned to see the end of the BME at the Manipal signal was not adequately marked out with multiple red blinking signals and clear signage.
You could have unwary speeders rear-end vehicles there with terrible consequences.

Return on a Sunday noontime was ultra peaceful. Stopped at the Harigovindas at Pavana for a pitstop and found it chockfull of people. Parking is great though as was the general proximity to the BME.

Entered the BME at 1215 and exited at 1400 with CC set at 98 km/hr. We were very cautious on speed, seatbelts and mobile usage and found the experience very restful. CC in the XL6 is a bit aggressive when it 'resumes', and possibly resulted in acceleration which was higher than required.

Noted stringent speed checking just after Srirangapatna (BLR-bound), and also a major police presence at Ramanagra (both sides). The latter seemed to be based on the ITMS cameras and other monitoring methods, as they were quickly pulling people over and showing them something on handheld tabs.

Plenty of dawdlers doing 80 in the 'overtaking lane', and a bit irritating for me at 98 to check mirrors, indicate, change lanes and then reverse the same. Surely people can move to the middle lane at lower speeds!

I did notice less traffic than I expected with minimal HCVs. My hunch is that the toll fare (hiked again last week) is having an effect on many users.

Noted a near-chain accident caused by a fool in a dZire who pulled into the BME at an entry point (without looking properly) thereby causing a totally law-abiding KSRTC Volvo/Scania to abruptly swerve into the fast lane. Could have been terrible had anyone been there in the latter. You can argue the KSRTC driver should have anticipated it and practised defensive driving, but he did have the right of way in the first place.

Re: Bangalore - Mysore Expressway Thread

Did a weekend drive to Kabini. Out Saturday morning and return Sunday afternoon. Left at 6.30am on Saturday morning. This is the kind of slot one would tried to completely avoid on any weekend, but with the expressway it was a peaceful drive. Good amount of traffic, but with the sectional speed cameras and set up, looks like most people are aligned to the fact that you need to drive in that 90-100 zone. Also, I think most folks realize that there is no point going faster. Just to a relaxed cruise at 90-100 and you reach in 1 hour 20-25 min. No point going at higher speeds and risk getting challaned for saving 5-10 min.

Almost no two/three wheelers also. I think a mix of police checks and the realization that it is probably not worth the risk have made the two wheelers stick to service roads.

Exits are streamlined now and the restaurants are also getting aligned to the exits with Payana Harigovindas and the ones on the opposite side giving the best access. 2nd is the Empire-KFC-Indradhanush cluster near Maddur. Requires one to be 4-5 km on service road, but still won't waste too much of time.

Took the chance to visit Payana also. Good one time visit with some nice models available.

Even with some flaws, once again must appreciate the expressway. Has brought all the places in Wayanad, Coorg, Nagarhole belt 1-1.5 hrs. closer to Bangalore with much more predictability. (Of course, not so good for the people of these areas as they will be overrun with tourists from Bangalore more than ever).

Re: Bangalore - Mysore Expressway Thread

Folks beware, the speed cameras on the expressway highway is active. I became a victim today and I now have to fill the pockets of the corrupt and powerful. I might have done 110kmph at one point to overtake a slow moving vehicle and to my bad luck the "ai" camera must have got me. I am now poorer by 1000 rs. July has been a bad month, first the income tax and now this.
