Some here also suggested the following rout,it is a little longer but appreantly we'll be on the NH7 most of the time hence getting a better route throughout.

Kindly suggest on this route...

Continue on NH7 after crossing the Ananthapur BYpass Flyover and go down 9 kms further towards Bangalore till you hit a small junction - unsure if ther eis any marking - and turn left. Go 3 kms and you will reach another cross road where you turn right onto the road to Kadiri (the road straight goes back into Ananthapur city). No problem road, you will be through Anantapur without any time delay.

When you are coming from Kadiri side, this point is some 5 kms before Anantapur town, and exactly 23 kms from Bathalpalli, the big town before Ananthapur.

Let me show you the route on Google Maps.Bangalore-Hyderabad Highway to Bangalore Rd - Google Maps

I will be doing chennai-hyd tomorrow, and plan to take this route to avoid anantapur. Google maps is telling me i've to do some 6-7km extra for the u-turn. Can you please clarify? Thanks

Google Maps is probably right on the extra kms. Snapshot of the route to avoid Anantapur City traffic. Hope this helps.

No, there is a break in the median on NH7 where the road from Kadiri joins it. No need to take U-turn

Felt like sharing my 2 cents info on the above route as my native town is Gudiyatham!

From Mulbagal if one has to reach Vellore there is no need to take the Mulbagal -Venkatagirikota-Gudiyatham-Vellore route. After Mulbagal can keep driving on NH4 towards Chittoor via Palamner. After crossing Chittoor Byepass a Border check post comes. Just after that NH4 forks towards the left and another road goes straight. This leads to Katpadi and Vellore. Hardly 25-30Kms one reaches Vellore from the border check post on NH4. There are clear sign boards directing towards the Katpadi Vellore road.

The Mulbagal-Venkatagirikota-Gudiyatham road is a state highway and passes thro ghat section. It's a scenic road though but takes a longer time to reach Vellore as only the last 20kms from Pallikonda is on NH46 4 Lane Highway. Some stretches are single lane and ghat section is not very smooth. Passes thro lot of small villages like battarpalli pernampattu and pallikonda the river crossing bridges are half done.

Perfectly correct @sameer. Just that I guess most folks are getting bored by driving either on the GQ
or on OMR side. So most of them are looking for a new road.

Agreed that a better route to Vellore is via Katpadi. But the very prospect of driving through ghat roads
with less traffic is what I think leads many people to take this road, when driving towards Chennai.

Thank you for your reply sir. Was right on time. Was just heading out of chennai when i received the mail and checked your reply. Bang on, no u-turn, there is a break in the divider and you can go either ways. Saves the hassle of going through Anantapur.

Started at besant nagar at 6AM.
Reached Liberty, Hyd at 4:15 PM

Besant Nagar - Guindy - Poonamallee -Ranipet - Chittoor - Madanapalle - Kadiri - Anantapur - Kurnool - Hyd

Bhuvan_prasad: Super timings. How did you manage that? How many breaks did you take? I thought this route will take more time than the regular - Nellore - Ongole route.

How is the Kadapa-Kurnool 4-laning these days ? Is it worth taking, or should be completely avoided ?

I had gone till Allegadda couple of weeks before. Kurnool - Nandyal is bad. One side of the completed 4 lanes are very short distances and merges with the old highway whose surface had detoriated. Compare to this Nandyal - Allegadda was good. Longer stretches of the 4 lanes are completed and the surface is very good.

I have not taken any of these routes in recent past, 4th one via vijayawada is definitely longer. I heard from my cousin (he used route via Addanki recently), it is not all that good. May be first hand experience from other members will be helpful

If I were you, I would take the route via Vijayawada since the 4 laning between Hyderabad and Vijayawada is more or less complete as per posts on various threads on this forum (I do remember reading that it is 98% complete).

This is the only route which will allow you to keep on a 4-lane highway right throughout.
