On the contrary, Calangute is in North Goa district, North of Panaji (about 15 kms).

Anyways, as you are riding a motorcycle, please consider the 2nd option that's the shortest distance amongst the three options. This option is good, both for Calangute and Cuncolim, whichever is your destination. There's a small patch of bad road (10-15 kms or so) on this option 2 route which shouldn't bother a motorcycle rider much. Further it's the fastest route too.

Kindly ignore your options 1 & 3 as they don't suit your destination. Option 2 is what you should consider and is the Ideal choice. Ride safe

Thank you so much for helping me out. The I copied the routes from BHPian jatinbindra's post who neatly summarised the routes suggested previously.

I'll go with the option 2. Thanks a lot!!!

Re: Bangalore - Goa : Route Queries

Guys, a short update on the Chorla ghat route from Belgaum to Goa

My friend and I drove from Vasco Da Gama, Goa to Belgaum, yesterday to deliver some Christmas/ New year gift to some friends and we chose the chorla ghat instead of Ponda - Mollem route, as we were more familiar with chorla route.

The road work is going on and much of the black top has been tarred and the road is in good driving condition except for a Kilometre or two between Jamboti and Kanakumbi where it's left unrepaired and in bad condition. But that's a very small stretch and no big deal. Other than that the road is good.

However, a note of caution. Chorla ghat is much narrower and has too many curves compared to Mollem.- Ponda route.. You could get stuck behind a slow moving truck for a long time.. People who have motion sickness (due to repeated turning) may avoid this route.

So, who can take this route from Belgaum to Goa?

1. For the regular drivers, who enjoy a nice, narrow ghat
2. Drivers who wants much lesser traffic than ponda mollem route
3. The Chorla route terminates at Sanquelim - Bicholim town and approach Goa from Mapusa side and is much closer to Vagator, Siolim, Morjim, Ashwem, Arambol, Keri, Terekhol and such places, situated at northern part of Goa.

For people going to Panaji, Calangute, Candolim & Baga, the Ponda - Mollem route is still the fastest route.

Our distance one way from Vasco to Belgaum was 130 Kms and we covered it in about 3 hours 30 minutes.

Please do remember that chorla route is definitely slower than Ponda Mollem route owing to the narrow, continuously turning roads, some road work going along the route and the possibility of getting stuck/ delayed behind slow moving truck with less option to overtake (unless you take that extra risk of blind overtaking). Again you get some straight stretches and opportunities to overtake, but you got to be very patient and disciplined driver here

It's a good road for two wheelers and there's a nice view point at Karnataka - Goa border on this road. You can stop for a few minutes and enjoy the western ghats view.

Again a disclaimer here. I have driven this road multiple times and hence know it pretty well as to where I can overtake or what traffic to expect, and this may not be the case with everyone. So, drive carefully and the road is in decent shape now.

Re: Bangalore - Goa : Route Queries

Hi All,

Travelling back to Bangalore from Calangute tomorrow 27th December. As per the recommendations made by ashkamath and several others here, planning to take the Anmod Ghat route.

Since the route can be tricky, and to avoid city traffic, want to leave by around 7 AM if possible.

Please suggest good breakfast options after crossing the ghat section (around or after Ramnagar)

Re: Bangalore - Goa : Route Queries

Came back from goa to Bangalore and google maps suggested the below route. Posting an update on this route -

Route:-
Cavelossim >> Karwar>> Ankola >> Yana >> Sirsi >> Haveri >> Devanagere >> Tumkur >> Bangalore

Start time 9 AM : Arrival in Bangalore (whitefield) 9 PM. 12 hrs drive including 2 stoppages approx 45 mins total. Route conditions are a mixed bag -

1) Goa to Ankola - Good roads . Narrow roads that became wider as we left Goa border. Good view points on the way .

2) Ankola to Yana -- Good roads with some bad stretches. Roads become narrower and go through forest as you drive out of Hubli Karwar road to SH 43, but very driveable. The ghat road section is cemented and in good condition

3) Yana to Sirsi- Ok with some bad patches.

4) Sirsi to Haveri - first 25 km road is very bad and stressful with lot of potholes/ bumps. After that the road is in fine condition and could drive at 80 - 100 kmph

5)Joined the main national highway in Haveri and maintained good speeds from there

6)Took the STRR before Nelamangala and although it adds 30+ Km, it was very stress free. The entire stretch from Dobbaspet to Hoskote is complete and is a pleasure to drive on.

Re: Bangalore - Goa : Route Queries

Whistling Woodz at Ramnagar was my go-to breakfast place but it is closed now. (Saw a Big Mishra outlet there this time). There is a new restaurant at Anmod on the right side just before you cross the Karnataka excise (liquor) checkpost when coming from Goa side. I found it to be decent and the toilets were clean. Do not remember the name but you will not miss it - seemed to be only half decent place in that area. Did not like the other options at Ramnagar.

As others mentioned, nothing worth mentioning here on that route for food. One option is to check at the small restaurants next to KA border checkpost. Have stopped only for tea there, but found to be okay. Toilets were decent when we visited, however this was around 7.00 AM and before the crowd would have started using it.
Else the only proper options are once you hit the Hubli side of highway.

Re: Bangalore - Goa : Route Queries

Completed my Goa trip. Came back the same way (via South Goa): Calangute - Karwar - Ankola - Yellapur - Hubli bypass - Davangere - Dabaspet - Satellite Ring Road - KR Puram

Took this route because of the predictability, and since we were able to leave Goa relatively early to mostly avoid the city traffic. We left our hotel at 7 AM, and were able to reach Galgibaga by 9. Had breakfast at the Udupi restaurant at OYO Hotel Matashree. Had discovered this place while our stay at Galgibaga and its distance from Calangute makes it a perfect pitstop. From there till Highway Lounge on the outskirts of Hubli was almost non-stop except for the Liquor checking at Goa - Karnataka border. Covered the distance uneventfully in a little over 3 hours.

The Arabal ghat section in this route is relatively easy. The traffic was very light yesterday with only a few trucks and did not find any difficulty in crossing this.

After about a 40 min lunch break, we travelled for the exactly the next 3 hours till Paakashala Chitradurga and stopped there for tea break. From there, it was almost a non-stop 4 hour journey except a 5 min petrol break at Tumkur.

Reached home at 8.50 PM

Total distance travelled was 711 km with driving time just under 12 hours. Total travel time was a little less than 14 hours. Quick and well planned and paced breaks made the journey a breeze for us.

Thanks everyone in this thread for their suggestions that made this trip a very enjoyable one for us

Re: Bangalore - Goa : Route Queries

Drove to Bangalore via Anmod on Dec 27. The good news is that the completion/repair work on the Anmod - Tinai section has started. Bridges have been cleared of the accumulated debris, work on the missing connections have started and white topping of the short stretch (one side) from Ramnagar side has just been completed.

Hoping this section is up and running before June 2025.

Also work on the Dharwad Hubli bypass has picked pace with a targeted completion by June 2025.

With these two sections in place, travel time should reduce by another 30-45mins! Fingers crossed!

Re: Bangalore - Goa : Route Queries

Last week did a trip from South Bangalore to Vasco in Goa. Started at 7 am, stopped at a small place, came recollect the name though, for breakfast. Good roads till Dharwad. Had lunch at Anantha Grand at Dharwad. This is next to Indy campus and a good hotel. Dharwad onwards road to Vasco is fine but at ;east 20 km is broken. this is approx 180 km and 2 lanes, by and large. Recommended. Return by same route.

Re: Bangalore - Goa : Route Queries

I returned from Agonda on 31st. Took the usual Karwar -> Ankola -> Yellapur -> Hubli -> Chitradurga ->Dobbaspete -> STRR - Yelahanka. The drive was a breeze with less traffic. Left agonda at 10.30 AM. Road conditions are excellent, much better than my previous 2 trips. Had lunch at Highway Lounge near Hubballi. Stopped for a coffee break at Upadhya Ruchi. Reached Yelahanka at 9.30 PM with 3 breaks(total of 2.5 hours).

Re: Bangalore - Goa : Route Queries

Hi All, wish you all a great and revving year ahead.

So after the new year痴 at Morjim, we decided to head to south goa for a cool off

Now I知 at canacona and planning to drive back to BLR day after. Looking for some route as wel as stops recommendations en-route. Wifey wants to stop on the way for an overnight stop and I知 kind of not. But you know who値l win this. So the questions I have are:
1. Route: gmap shows attached route as the best one with 11hrs and some change drive. Whereas I read in this forum that the best route is through yellapur- Hubballi. So a bit confused. Which route should I take?
2. If I take the shortest route, I知 not sure we値l be able to find a good property to stay overnight. Any recommendations here?

Since you'll be travelling from Canacona, you can take the Karwar - Yellapur - Hubli bypass route eyes closed. The preferred route that GMaps is showing you looks like the same one.
As someone who did this route up and down just last week, trust me when I say this, you don't need an overnight stop if you can reach your home in Bangalore via the STRR. Otherwise if you are entering via Nelamangala, good luck facing the evening traffic

You can refer to my post #6412 for the route I took from Calangute, the time taken and the food options en route. Hope this helps!

Yes.. please take Yellapur -> Hubli route. For stay you may look for options in Huballi or Davanagere. It depends on what time you start from Canacona. If you are starting late in the day, you may stay in Hubballi, otherwise Davanagere is better to break the journey evenly.

Re: Bangalore - Goa : Route Queries

Thank you sidsden and sixersiddu. Noted on all the recommendations.

The route that痴 suggested by gmaps seems way far off from Hubballi. Please see the attached screenshot. This one passes through Karwar- hattikeri toll booth - baleguli cross - navagadde- adlur - honnalli- gangaavali bridge - kathri angadi- adur and joins directly at haveri. I tried to include as many names as I could from the maps. Seems like it痴 about 2 hours less compared to through Hubballi. Sorry for asking so many question. Ant suggestions here, keeping in mind that I値l be driving a low GC sedan 2014 model?

Try this route please. I have added Highway Lounge just before Hubli as a stop, so you can use the same. It is around 180 km (~4 hrs) from Canacona.
My recommendation would be to start early in the day to reach Bangalore by early/late evening. Considering total break time of 2 hours, you should be able to reach Bangalore in 12-13 hours total, depending on which part of Bangalore you're traveling to.
