I believe this is a good option considering the small bad patch on the Anmod road. I read it, here in TBhp that someone had taken this route and recommended it.

May, I suggest you to consider the above route, via Tilari and I heard it's in good shape. The only bummer is that the route might be longer and circuitous than the other regularly taken routes. This route takes you almost along the upper most road from Karnataka to Goa and hence might take some additional time / distance to reach Candolim which is somewhat in lower section of North Goa.

I am also travelling to Candolim next week. Taking the Belguam , Tilari route I posted above. Based on the posts here, seems like thats the best for your car.

Re: Bangalore - Goa : Route Queries

Hey Guys, I am traveling to Calangute from Bangalore next week and am confused about which route to take.

So many route suggestions have been posted above. From what I can see, people have suggested the following routes :

1. Bangalore - Tumkur - Davanagere - Hubali Bypass - Yellapur - Ankola - Karwar - Calangute ( Route Link) - 690KM

2. Bangalore - Tumkur - Davanagere - Hubali - Mansur - Dharwad - Ramanagar - Anmod - - Mollem - Calangute ( Route Link) - 612KM

3. Bangalore - Tumkur - Davanagere - Hubali - Mansur - Dharwad - Hubli - Belagavi - Tilari Nagar - Mapusa - Calangute
(Route Link) - 630KM

From the above 3, my priority is good road conditions to ensure a smooth and enjoyable drive. If you’ve recently traveled this route, could you share:

Which route did you take?

How were the road conditions?

Any scenic stops or must-visit places along the way?

I’d like to know which one is better in terms of avoiding potholes, ongoing construction, or heavy traffic.

Looking forward to your suggestions! Thanks in advance for helping me plan an awesome road trip. 😊

I reside in Goa and keep a tab on this thread. In recent times, I have heard that your option 3, Via Tikari Nagar - Mapusa is recommended by people who have driven that route from Bangalore to Goa.

Option No 2 is the shortest, but I reckon there's a small section along this route that's bad.

Option No 1 is primarily for tourists visiting South Goa (Palolem, Varca, Benaulim, Cavelossim, Colva, Agonda etc). It's longer to Calangute (in North Goa) and hence not recommended..

Thanks a lot for the suggestion. I will take route no.3 for my journey next week.

Is Option 2 or 3 also a good idea if travelling to Durgavado?

Between them, I do not mind Option 2 if the bad stretches aren't a lot. I think around 10 km of bad roads, i should be able to handle.

Option 3 seems longer imo, so I don't want to be travelling an extra hour or so on the road.

What is your opinion?

Durgavado is essentially a locality in Taleigaon, Panaji. It's bang in the centre of Panaji City.

I agree with you that option No 2 via Anmod with the short bad stretch is the better option for you, considering the destination. That's the shortest and better route to Durgavado.

Re: Bangalore - Goa : Route Queries

I did Bangalore to South goa this week in my compass. Started at 4 and reached Cavelossim by 2.30 PM . Took the below route

Bangalore - Tumkur - Davanagere - Hubali - Mansur - Dharwad - Ramanagar - Anmod - - Mollem - Cavelossim

Bangalore to Hubli is a breeze . Roads are really awesome after Tumkur as everyone has already said. Between Ramnagar and Mollem there are some bad patches/ under construction road where every vehicle has to slow down . Apart from that, this route was pretty decent.

Re: Bangalore - Goa : Route Queries

We left Bangalore at around 8.30 am. Plan was to have a relaxed journey this time with night halt at Karwar.

However turned out to be very slow with multiple congestions/road work along the way. It took more than 5 hours to cross Chitradurga post which I could gather pace. However I found the drive from Yellapur post sunset tad challenging. The road is broken at many places. Overtaking slow moving lorries be become a challenge with other vehicles from opposite side and from behind flashing their high beam. Also the road from Ankola to Karwar is mostly 2 lane missing markers.

Total trip took more than 11 hours but gives us this morning to see a bit of Karwar before checking in at Panjim today (hence preferred this to halting at Hubbali but maybe should have left home earlier)

Re: Bangalore - Goa : Route Queries

Do not use mundgod route. Many places it's single road ( with no road and only one vehicle can pass )

There are many large trucks using this road and it's not safe.

Strongly suggest one to use hubli route.

Use coastal crown as a pit stop in yellapur .

I travelled this route yesterday to reach varca south goa.

Re: Bangalore - Goa : Route Queries

Hello Everyone,

I along with my wife did Bangalore to Galgibaga yesterday in my Venue SX(O) DCT and here's my experience. I was the only one driving.

Left Bangalore (KR Puram) at 4.20 AM and took the Satellite Ring Road after Hoskote. The road was super empty but I had gotten advice from others who had travelled on this road in wee hours and everyone ensured it was safe. There was a thick fog cover at places though and hence I drove well within the 100 kmph speed limit in most places. Our first pit stop was

CCD Dabaspet. (right next to HP Petrol Bunk).

After a close to 40 mins break, we hit the road again, and the next stop was Apoorva Resorts Davangere. I was driving at the leisurely pace of 80-100 kmph and still managed to reach there in around 2h45m for 200 km.

Post breakfast, we started at 10 AM, and after a quick 10 mins petrol break, continued towards Hubli and took the bypass Hubli - Karwar road towards Yallapur/Ankola. Although we had initially planned to have lunch at Highway Lounge, but because it was barely 2-2.5 hours since breakfast we were not hungry and decided to push on. The plan was to stop somewhere near Yallapur for lunch and did so, at a non-descript place on the route.

After Yallapur, the road conditions become a little patchy, mostly in the ghat section. It is mostly single roads and there are large 18-wheelers and other trucks constantly plying, so you have to be patient. Even after Ankola, when you hit NH66, there are sections when the highway is single lane due to ongoing works and you have to drive slow.

After a quick tea break at an Udupi Restaurant in Karwar, we finished the journey at our homestay near Galgibaga beach, just entering Goa. We reached ar 4.50 PM, which is a 12.5 hours time with 2 food, 2 tea and 1 petrol break, with a total drive time around 10 hours.

Today we will continue till Calangute, as we did not want to do the extra 100 km on the same day, as this is our first time driving up this route and we didn't know much what to expect and hence kept the cushion of a night stay in Galgibaga. As a bonus, the beach here is just fabulous. Clean, not at all crowded and we reached just in time for the sunset!

For our return journey this Friday, I am still contemplating between the 3 route options as mentioned by someone just a few posts ahead in this thread. I am inclined to take the Anmod ghat route since it is the shortest from North Goa but I do not wish to be stuck in that section. Please suggest.

Here's my trip meter from yesterday (pic taken after another 2 km drive to a restaurant at night)

Re: Bangalore - Goa : Route Queries

Hi fellow BHPians, I need your help to decide the route for my road trip in my R15 V4.

I am planning to leave by 5 AM on 25 December and reach Cuncolim before Sun down. Since it is a stiffly sprung bike I would like to avoid any bad patches of road that might make it tiring during the trip. And since it is a solo ride, safety is also a concern.

Commonly suggested routes copied from jatinbindra's post:

1. Bangalore - Tumkur - Davanagere - Hubali Bypass - Yellapur - Ankola - Karwar - Calangute - 690KM

2. Bangalore - Tumkur - Davanagere - Hubali - Mansur - Dharwad - Ramanagar - Anmod - - Mollem - Calangute - 612KM

3. Bangalore - Tumkur - Davanagere - Hubali - Mansur - Dharwad - Hubli - Belagavi - Tilari Nagar - Mapusa - Calangute - 630KM

This is a bucket list road trip for me. Any help would be much appreciated. Kindly suggest the best possible route based on you experience or knowledge.

Thank You in advance.

Hi, you mentioned your destination as "Cuncolim" while the route destination indicate "Calangute".
Cuncolim is in South Goa district, south of Madgaon (about 7 kms) and close to Varca, Benaulim & Cavelossim.
On the contrary, Calangute is in North Goa district, North of Panaji (about 15 kms).

Anyways, as you are riding a motorcycle, please consider the 2nd option that's the shortest distance amongst the three options. This option is good, both for Calangute and Cuncolim, whichever is your destination. There's a small patch of bad road (10-15 kms or so) on this option 2 route which shouldn't bother a motorcycle rider much. Further it's the fastest route too.

Kindly ignore your options 1 & 3 as they don't suit your destination. Option 2 is what you should consider and is the Ideal choice. Ride safe
