I dont have first hand experience in traveling in any of the roads beyond Hubli, though once I had taken Amboli Ghat...some 13 years back. I still feel that given all the issues and uncertainities regarding Tinai and Chorla ghat, the Yellapur-Karwar-South Goa-North Goa is still the best route, given the current road conditions and its scenic nature. The new wider highways and the bridges in Karwar - North Goa section enables you to travel faster.

I am traveling this Monday and keep the forum posted on road conditions.

Re: Bangalore - Goa : Route Queries

So took the Anmod Mollem route on 21st Oct. It wasn't raining that day. The Ramnagar to Mollem route has its usual challenges but on a dry day most cars can and should take it.

On a very wet day I think one will need to take the Durg diversion as a small 300 m section would be only possible with the most competent off road vehicles. Especially on the Goa BLR direction.

I will be returning on 28th. Will report on the latest on the same route.

Okay. Thanks. Can you let know what was the reason you didn't take the straight / highway route?
- Was it blocked?
The straight route was blocked due to some work being carried out on that day. We enquired before taking the Tinai ghat road.

A lot of vehicles were taking another route via Jungle lodge resorts but we were told that the Tinai route was in much better condition.

Re: Bangalore - Goa : Route Queries

Hi
Just drove Panaji to Bangalore via Anmod on Oct 27, 2024 in 10.5 hrs with two decent half hr breaks.

Foggy mornings enroute Panaji to Mollem. We did this stretch in not more than 60kmph. Be very careful of stray cattle.

Bangalore - Goa : Route Queries-cattle.jpeg

The usual route through Anmod: broken patches etc. but the issue why the road was undriveable a week ago was that this section between the railway gate and Hotel Simla was full slush.
The road on the left is the 'new' road that has not been fully constructed as yet and full of slush whereas the road on the right is the 'old' road that was slushy and now has dried up.
With no sign of the rains, the 'old' road is driveable! Any car can navigate this slowly!

Post this 10km stretch (Anmod to Tinai), there was a small patch before Ramnagar that was also slushy, which has now dried up. So no worries here too.

Post Hubli, we encountered 8 diversions enroute to Bangalore. Surprisingly a lot of stray potholes in between Chitradurga & Tumkur!

Regards,
Chorispao

Though not recent, you can find updates in these two threads -

Shimoga (Bangalore - Shimoga : Route Queries)
Jog (Bangalore to Jog Falls - Route, experiences)

Re: Bangalore - Goa : Route Queries

Quick update on BLR Goa route covered on Oct 30

1. Road condition between BLR Hubli have worsened: lot more diversions & potholes until Chiradurga

2. Hubli to Goa can be done via Anmod: lot of wagon R & swift doing this route. If your hatch can drive on BBMP roads: then anmod is very much doable

3. Took the forest route: google maps says that it was closed but it’s open

Would you mind sharing the route you took from Bangalore to Goa and back?
I also wanted to now about the forest route you are talking bout. Sounds interesting. Was it on the way back to Bangalore?
When you say worsened do you mean in the sense there are lot of potholes or slush or traffic?
Also what time you started from Bangalore and what time you reached?

Re: Bangalore - Goa : Route Queries

Here is the route through the forest between anmod and Ramnagar: it’s open to traffic both directions. Google maps shows road is closed. BLR <> Ramnagar you can trust google

What a sight! What is the current stalemate due to now? I thought all environmental stays had been vacated as well as a new contractor appointed.

A complete travesty of speedy infrastructure development, and a waste of common peoples' money and bandwidth struggling through that section for so many years now. I am sure countless lives have also been lost as well as non-fatal injuries from accidents. Really feel for the villagers and daily commuters in that region.

Thank you, good to know although always best to stop oncoming traffic (where possible), and query for a real-time sitrep.

Re: Bangalore - Goa : Route Queries

Did Bangalore - Goa via Ramanagar - Anmod traditional route - No diversion.

The landslide/ water logged section is doable now. No need of diversion. If it rains heavily around there it may become tricky, however else all vehicle's can do the same.

Cars / trucks / buses are taking the route.

Overall the road has lot of bad sections, but that's been the case earlier too.

Please ignore the spider man. .This is the section which is displayed as closed in Google maps

Instead I would suggest you do Bangalore-Hubli-Yellapura-Ankola-Karwar-Candolim, wider and better roads with a little more added distance which should be worth it.

Heres my update.

Bangalore to Hubli - Peaceful. Few diversions after Tumkur for road maintenance. Little annoying but can be managed easily. I stayed at Hotel Naveen.

Next day morning: Hubli - Yellapura - NO issues whatsoever. Avoid speeding though. Maintain 60-80 on most stretches so that you can avoid surprises like livestock suddenly coming in your way. Lots of monkeys too on the stretch. Again, please dont speed in your own interest.

30 - 40 kms after Yellapur - Roads are NOT in good condition. Again you can manage without issues but you will keep wondering why its in that shape. Potholes and weird road issues continue till you hit Highway 66. You will become an expert in avoiding potholes once you complete this stretch. Nothing unmanageable though.

Post Karwar - 4 lane highway at some places. You can maintain a steady speed though. Great news is Karwar flyover and tunnels are fully open. THis was a pleasant surprise. Goa roads are good but single laned but I didnt face any issues whatsoever.

Have a great drive everyone.
