I think the bad stretch is about 20km long. Not that the entire 20km is bad, but there are intermittent bad stretches in that about 20km section. Beyond that, it is all smooth and good road!

Re: Bangalore - Goa : Route Queries

Locals and travellers late last night have reported the collapse of the old bridge on NH66 over the River Kali that connects Karwar, Karnataka and Goa.

https://x.com/bnglrweatherman/status...662375097?s=48

A truck and a car were on the bridge when it collapsed. Local fishermen helped in rescuing the occupants of the truck, but details regarding the car that was caught in the collapse are still unknown.

Traffic has backed up about 10 km from the site, at Sadashivgad.

Local authorities and structural engineers arrived at the site to inspect the new bridge and deem it fit for crossing.

Those travelling to Goa via Karwar are cautioned and advised to consider alternatives, if necessary.

I was traveling from Vasco to Gokarna today and was stopped at Sadashivgad, just about 10 kms from Karwar at around 9 AM.

As my visit to Gokarna became untenable due to the delay, I returned back to Goa. It's raining incessantly here in Goa - Karwar sector. Please plan your trips carefully

The route taken was bangalore - davanagere - hubli-dharwad bypass - kittur - mkhubli left turn - Khanapura - jambooti - sinquerim - mapusa. I drove a skoda Octavia 2017 petrol with avg ground clearance. But I could manage with just a couple of under chassis minor brushing to the ground. I wasn't really worried about the overall condition of the road. It was decent after mkHubli with a few potholes, cracks, mild water logging and incessant rain.
I returned back to Bangalore on Saturday, 3rd Aug, in my Octy by the exact same route and it was fine. I scraped the mud guards 3-4 times due to unscientific bumps at Jambooti junction and due to some bad road dig ups and potholes.

Hi Ampere,

Could you please elaborate a bit on what you meant by this ?

From what I read, there is a parallel new bridge where Cars and 2 wheelers are permitted to cross over, Just heavy vehicles are blocked.

Asking because next week I have a trip planned to Goa

Thanks

Not to worry. The 41 year old bridge across River Kali has fallen. This bridge was used by vehicles coming from Karnataka to Goa.

A new bridge that's parallel to the old bridge has been built a couple of years ago and is perfectly fine & stable and was used by vehicles plying from Goa towards Karnataka.

Now the new bridge will act as a 2 way bridge instead of the earlier one way, thus allowing traffic from both sides. The new bridge is wide enough to easily accommodate 2 heavy vehicles coming from opposite direction. So, traffic has been reinstated and movement is smooth and seamless.

The new bridge is strong and stable and nothing to worry about for all types of vehicles including trucks and state buses.

Re: Bangalore - Goa : Route Queries

From South Goa (Agonda) to Bangalore, is Ankola > Yellapur - Mundgod - Haveri - Davanagere still the best route?

Yes. From Agonda to Bangalore, the best route is Karwar - Ankola - Yellapur - Mundgod - Haveri - Davangere is still the best route.

But remember, Yellapur to Bankapur via Mundgod is a single narrow village and forest road that's not in great shape (like any other internal single lane roads). Loaded Sedans / low GC vehicles could get the bottom scraped to the ground at some places such as Nalas / culverts. If your vehicle is an SUV, then no problem.

If your vehicle has low GC and it's raining heavily, then opt for the regular route that's proceed further from Yellapur towards Kalghatgi and reach Hubli and join the Poona Bangalore NH. This route is longer by 50 Kms / 1 hour, but it's a truck / state bus route. So a bit of more traffic but roads are wider and better than Mundgod shortcut.

If you want to try a totally different route, you can try Yellapur - Sirsi - Jog - Sagar - Shimoga - Bhadravathi - Tarikere - Arasikere - Tumkur - Bangalore route too. You can take this route if you can afford some more time and want to enjoy a drive through state highway and some beautiful towns. The earlier Hubli Bangalore NH is a boring fast 6 lane highway. Fast but boring..

You get to choose your route at Yellapur. All 3 possible choices start from Yellapur. Choose your pick.

I guess you got the answer. It's two bridged. So traffic will continue. But it can be a bit chaotic. Just watch out.

Re: Bangalore - Goa : Route Queries

Looks like intermittent bad patches in the 20kms stretch between Ramnagar and Anmod as per https://www.team-bhp.com/forum/route...ml#post5818105 (Bangalore - Goa : Route Queries)

I too am travelling on 15th Aug and planning to take Hubli-dharwad-ramnagar-molem route. I am keeping an option open on Mundgod - yellapur - ankola - karwar route if I hear from anyone to prefer this over anmod.
