Does not look like the work on the Tumkur road elevated stretch is completed. So you can expect to be slowed down there, depending on what time you leave.

Lunch - again depends on what time you exit Bangalore limits.

1. To exit Bangalore, Peenya route shoud be fine if the elevated flyover has been reopened after it was shutdown for a week around 25/26 Dec. Do verify this, probably it has been reopened which is why gmaps is suggesting that.

2. Depending on your start time, for breakfast you can stop at Shree Rathnam (~60km) before Dabaspet cross or Pavithra at Kyathasandra near Tumkur (~75km). If that's too close/early you can even stop at Mysore Cafe Chitradurga near the Nijalingappa memorial but that's about 200km away.

* In a recent travelogue I read about Hotel Sai Palace near Hiriyur, ~135km from Bangalore and that could be an option too.

Dont think so. We returned yesterday, and Gmaps was showing via Peenya as the preferred route. However, when I check traffic today evening, there's still the deep red in that section. If the flyover was re-opened, there should have been an update in the news.

Thanks
Following Google maps is fine to exit Bangalore from Whitefield via K R Puram and then the ORR all the way till Taj Vivanta, Yeshwanthpur.

The popular breakfast stop on this route is Apoorva Resorts, Davanagere. With 5 AM start, if you find it slightly late, then you can target for an ealier stop at Chitradurga. Upadya Veg which comes first, but on the right side or the Mysore Cafe on the left side slightly ahead.

Lunch stop is bit tricky. There are no good places till Yellapura. There are few restuarants in Yellapura town centre which looked decent from outside, though we didnt try any of them. Ankola has a CCD.
Otherwise, better bet would be Karwar town which has some good options, especially if you like seafood. You can recharge and refresh before entering Goa.

Mysore Cafe is no longer accessible if one drives on the new Chitradurga bypass. So, I would rule this out in future too unless you are planning Shimoga via Chitradurga!

Best is Upadhya Ruchi (not Upadhya that is on the old bypass now).

At Yellapura: Shanbhag and Indraprastha.

Little ahead will be Navami which otherwise is strictly a Private bus hotel by the night.

After this, I would honestly opt for the Kamat/CCD/IOCL are a decent breakpoint at Ankola even with that limited detour of less than 1.5 km from the junction.

Re: Bangalore - Goa : Route Queries

Thanks for all the help.

Just reached South Goa. Via Tadas route. Let's just say it was smooth sailing all along barring few blips under Peenya flyover(bus had med with an accident) and some bad stretches post Yellapur (fragmented but nothing a sedan cannot cross. Though you really have to slow down).

With stops of about 1 hour, reached the destination in 9.5 hours.

What helped was my recently remapped Skoda Rapid which made driving and overtaking effortless. I drove not at very high speed and it was not tiring at all.

No checking at border, no one stopped to check for vaccination certificate or covid test report. Though we were all covered.

Missed Apoorva resort for breakfast and ended up having it at Shiva Hotel after Devanagre. Do not recommend it but it was the only option. Skipped lunch stop as our ETA was 2.30 pm. So heading to beach now for lunch.

Re: Bangalore - Goa : Route Queries

Apparently, Karnataka is making RTPCR test mandatory for people coming from Goa.

News Source.

Quote:
All those coming from Goa, Kerala and Maharashtra will mandatorily need an RT-PCR test.

The ministers said that many who returned from Goa after the new year have tested positive. “We are looking to trace everyone who returned from Goa post January 1 and we want to test them,” he said.

Just saw the guidelines issued on 4th. Negative report is mandatory for people training from Goa to Karnataka. We are looking for covid tests in Goa and they are charging 2.2k per person. That seems too much but looks like no other option.

Is the 2.2K at airport or any place ?
Possibly a better idea to get tested in Karwar while entering GA and return in 72 hours ?

One of the labs in South Goa quoted 2200 but even then they backed out citing too much backlog. Then hotel concierge gave me a contact who came from North Goa and collected samples. Rs 1500 each.

Intense checking at Karwar Goa border for RT-PCR test report.

Goa to KA as karnataka made RT-PCR test mandatory for travellers entering KA from Goa in addition to Kerala and MH

I cancelled my next week booking. Next time if the rule still exists, possibly will get tested in Karwar for 500 rs, and return in 72 hours.

Re: Bangalore - Goa : Route Queries

Hi all, we are planning to go to south Goa this Friday from Bangalore. Just curious why is it that no one has been taking the mundgod-yellapur route? Till last year we have been following that. Google maps is also not suggesting that route. Is there anything wrong there?
