I think there is no connection with the famous Saravanabhavan in TN and the one in Hosur, however I am not sure about it. Yes you would miss the hotel if you take the flyover. If you would like to have food at the hotel then you need take the service road rather than taking the fly over. But beware, there is one more hotel just close to Saravanabhavan and it called Meenakshi bhavan, last week I tried breakfast over there and I fell sick due to food contamination. So just a caution to fellow BHPians, please do not take risk at Meenakshi bhavan.

Yes, the ORIGINAL Hotel Saravanabhavan has no branches in Hosur.

Thanks all for the info.

After Salem the road towords Namakal and from Namakal to Trichy are well marked with signboards? or should I ask some one and proceed ?

Is Tanjavore near by to Trichy? what's the distance? As we are planning to stay for 3 days in Trichy if Tanjore is near thought of seeing the Tanjai peria kovil also.

A list of temples in and around Trichy to visit would be also greatful.

Cheers,
SNB

Thanjavur is 55 kms from Trichy. Though it is only 55 kms, presently it will take you about 2 hours to go from the heart of Trichy to the heart of Thanjavur, because of the ongoing road works.

To know more about Trichy temples, see Venkatasalapathi Temple - Thuraiyur

and

Travel Information - Trichy

Do not miss Srirangam, Thiruvanaikaaval, Samayapuram, Ucchhi Pillayaar Temple, Thaayumaana Swamy Temple, Viralimalai and Vayaloor in Trichy.

In Thanjavur, see the Bruhadheeswara Temple, Kamakshi Amman Temple (West Street) and Punnai Nalloor Mariamman Temple.

If you have a month of vacation, you can cover all the Temples around Kumbhakonam, too !

What a bad thing to do while driving, that too while overtaking... Posting the videos may be helpful to others, but you are doing that risking the safety of yours as well as your co-passengers, and other vehicles on the road. In this forum, we crib about safety etc., etc., and we dont even follow them. Moreover we feel happy to post our adventures on this very forum which stands mainly for road safety. From Sales to Namakkal, I doubt if they have left any sign boards due to all the construction works!!!

There is a bridge construction going on and it terribly confusing!

You should actually take right on the 3rd round-about after entering Salem, from Bangalore (Guys, please correct me if I am wrong!). That will be the round-about after the one that leads to Coimbatore and the one before Hotel South Gate.

And I reckon that you might find some route boards for Madurai (same road to take, except that you need to get off at Namakkal). Apart from that, I am sure you might find some buses which are heading to Trichy / Namakkal / Madurai in that route (and they sometimes have the name boards in English also), just follow that.

Travel safe!

Route

Hello ..

subbusos : Sure i will take care.. Will handover the filmography task to the others in the car frm next trip...

snb77:: As the highway ends at namakkal you take a left at the first signal you come across and as you proceed towards a crowded road for about a km you will notice the namakkal bus stand... about 100mts from there is a circle and you stick you your left. There are boards marking trichy (85kms) After you take a left you will notice the bridge construction happening. again there is a diversion to your left. continue ahead and I think at the second speed breaker is where there is a diversion again to the right which will get you right back on the Trichy SH(2 lane ) .

Pardon my mspaint skills..

i recently traveled in this route. You will find couple of sign boards stating the diversion. You should not have any issues in finding out this way.

Bangalore-Trichy-Tanjavur

Hi

Planning to go to Tiruchy & Tanjavur over a weekend. The idea is to see Srirangam temple, Brihadeeshwara temple and do some other family business.

I have a few questions & would be grateful for any assistance. Thanks in advance

- Route: Best route to Tiruchy & Tanjavur?
- What is the condition of the road? Heard Tiruchy- Tanjore is bad.
- How much time should I budget to get to Tiruchy & then onward to Tanjavur? I will be going by Innova.
- Any idea when there is no darshan at Srirangam & Brihadeeshwara temple?
- Suggestions on good pure vegetarian eateries enroute?
- Any photography 'donts' in either temple ( I know that tripods are not allowed & you cant shoot inside the sanctum sanctorum) Any other things to watch out for?

I have travelled between Banglore and Trichy last month. From Banglore to Namakkal road is excellent. The problem would to cross Namakkal town to Trichy road follow the map suggested by lancersfx. From Namkkal to Thottiam good road. From Thottiam to Trichy single road but drivable lot of curves.Do not go towards Karur-Trichy road as it in under construction for road widening.I started Trichy 1pm crossed Attibele 5.30pm.Happy driving.

We recently (Last month) did a Tamilnadu trip and covered Trichy, Srirangam & Tanjore also [See Travelogue linky below]. The Tamilnadu drive is from page-4 onwards, but refer to page-1 of my log for a quick look at the hotels we stayed in.

Coming to some of your questions:

I drove from Tanjore to Trichy and the road conditions are quite good. The best route from Bangalore seems to be to go to Karur & then to Trichy. But based on Gajadonga's post about the Karur to Trichy road being bad, I would suggest taking a call based on his experience. I am sure there will be other Tbhp members also who will provide the latest route info.

It took us around 2 hours from Tanjore to Trichy, with a break or two factored in.

- - Any idea when there is no darshan at Srirangam & Brihadeeshwara temple?
Most temples in Tamilnadu will have no darshan between 12.00 noon to around 4.00pm. Best time to visit any temple is either early in the morning or after 4.00pm . Plan your drive time in the 12 to 4 slot.

Again, the best sources of info are auto-drivers! Just ask for 'meals' hotel and they'll most likely ask you 'vegga? nan-vegga??'. There will be plenty of vegetarian hotel options close to the temples... no worries.

Also, remember to pack some bananas and some fruits in your car... just to munch and keep hunger at bay till you have your next meal.

Each temple has its own policy about cameras. In Brihadeshwara temple, you can click anywhere except inside the sanctum. In Srirangam you can carry camera and click anywhere except inside the main temple complex.

Don't worry, there will be boards saying 'No Photo / No camera' if camera is not allowed. Else most temples will be selling camera tickets for 20 / 30 rupees.

Go ahead, and enjoy your trip!

Just to add. If you plan to stay in Trichy, the SRM hotel is a very good place. Had a very good experience there last year.
