Princezahed, Hurrycane12,

Thank you. Will mostly be travelling in a WagonR.

There is also a plan to visit Siddapur (Udupi dist.) What would be the best (motorable) route from Bangalore? Would it still be via Shimoga?

There's more than one Siddapur in that part of the world. Do you mean the one near Kundapur? The Shimoga route should be ok for that. You ll have to take the Hosangadi-Kundapur route from there.

The other alternate route will be taking the Bangalore - Mangalore road to reach Udipi; though i have not travelled by this road i had made a plan last year but had to drop due to bad road conditions which are getting highlighed in the newspapers.

You can also take the route via Shimoga which goes to Udipi thru Tirthahalli - I have travelled upto to Tirthahalli the road upto here is quite good will not be able to comment on the road ahead.

BLR -Gokarna Route and other info required

ALL,

I have planned a trip to Gokarna from BLR in the view of spending some good time on the beaches with my wife and 4 yr old son for the year end, not exactly new year. From going thru various posts I have gauged the fol. I require your inputs to validate my findings so that I can confirm the trip. Appreciate your quick response so that it will enable me to proceed with the bookings given the fact that new year rush is around the corner.

1) route - Which route is better of the 2 ? And can someone provide the latest road conditions of the routes mentioned below. This route seemed to be the most preffered(by Google map & TBHP'ians) and shortest, approx 485 kms

BLR-Tumkur-Chitradurga-Shimoga-Sagar-talaguppa-honavar-Kumta-Mirjan-Gokarna
or
BLR-Tumkur-Chitradurga-Shimoga-Sagar-talaguppa-siddapur-Kumta-Mirjan-Gokarna

2) I am planing to checkin at a resort/place which is either on the beach or the nearest to the beach. Looking at my requirements I found 'Namaste Cafe' shacks on the beach and Om beach(their ayurvedic packages were interesting) a little away from the beach. I would require suggestions on both the places, as primarily I am concerned about the place as I have my kid along.

3) Our idea was to spend about 3 days at Gokarna. Is it an overkill, if yes, what are the other places around Gokarna worthwhile a visit ?

I would appreciate a quick response on my above queries. I promise a good log and pics if the trip works out

Thanks in advance

re: Bangalore - Gokarna : Route Queries

Hi,

Which is the better route from Gokarna to Bangalore? Is it:

1. Gokarna-Sirsi-Haveri-Bangalore
2. Gokarna-Honnavara-Shimoga-Bangalore

Or are there other routes?

Prasad

I did Bangalore-Gokarna-Bangalore around 10 months ago (during jan!).
Took option 2 both ways.

Gokarna-Honnavara-Sagara-Shimoga-Bangalore was OK all the way with couple of rough stretches here and there but nothing serious.
I took around 9 hours to cover the distance with couple of stops.

Honnavara-Sagara (jog falls) involves ghat driving and roads are narrow at some places. Better to cover this stretch in day time.

AFAIK there is a Namaste property near Om Beach. No personal experience with them. Other than that, can't recollect any other accommodation. Apart from this, Karwar would be the nearest town to get a good accommodation.

One of my friend stayed there at Kudle bech view resort. Look at this URL for details.
http://kudlebeachview.com/

He gave me positive feed back. Planning to visit there after monsoon.

Other options are

Some budget options

There are many budget home stays / shacks kind of accommodation as well.

Bangalore -> Gokarna -> Mangalore -> Bangalore

Hi Guys,

I'm planning a solo driving trip in my car during the coming weekend.

Bangalore -> Gokarna -> Mangalore -> Bangalore

Each of these 3 sections will be covered in 1 day, so I'm looking for suggestions on the best routes between these cities.

Criteria:
- Winding roads - fun to drive
- Good tarmac
- Overall route short enough to cover in one day easily without getting tired.

Please help! Thanks!

I think the easiest would be to follow the Bangalore-Goa thread.

Bangalore-Hubli-Yellapur-Ankola-Gokarna.

If you wan to avoid Hubli you can do Bankapur-Mundgod-Yellapur-Ankola-Gokarna.

Re: Bangalore - Gokarna : Route Queries

We need to go to Gokarna for a couple of days. We (the group) are split between South Bangalore and Mysore, so the entire group can leave from either place.

South Bangalore route would be NICE Road to NH 48 till Haveri, then Sirsi to Gokarna. 500 km, 8 hours, tolls.

Mysore route would be Arsikere, Sagar, Sirsi, Gokarna. 455 km, 9:20 hours, no tolls.

Would appreciate guidance.

One major concern is the truckers strike and whether fuel will be available at bunks or they will run dry, stranding us. We will be travelling in a diesel Swift, range is good, so that helps somewhat.

Thanks.

I'm not sure how good Sagar-Sirsi is.

Having traveled on the Haveri route recently, I would suggest taking that since it gives you tolled 4 laned roads till Haveri and then good roads thereafter till Kumta (speed breakers exist between Haveri and Hanagal cross but manageable and good road conditions) and beyond that again work in progress 4 laned roads of NH 17 to the Gokarna turn off again in decent condition.
