Driving back would not be an issue, I had once driven while it was getting late.

Not sure of the timing, rates was as in the pic couple of years back .

Infact, while I went for safari through JLR there didn't see any gov safari jeeps in evening.

Re: Bangalore - BR Hills : Route Queries

Checking if any latest update on this route? Are there any hotspots to avoid?

I am planning to take Bangalore - Kanakapura - Malavalli - Kollegal - BR Hills - Yelandur Kollegal and back. How are the route conditions?

Not sure of the current condition, however Nagavalli route was bad compared to Yelandur route. So as long as you are taking right from Yelandur to BR hills there should not be any issue.

Re: Bangalore - BR Hills : Route Queries

There is road widening work in progress around Kollegala and Yelandur and of course Kanakapura road as well. Nothing scary to avoid this route, just start early.

Re: Bangalore - BR Hills : Route Queries

Had been to BRT/ KGudi on saturday for a day drive. Took below circuit -

Bangalore - BR Hills : Route Queries-screenshot_20171119201324.png

The roads are good all throughout except as mentioned around Kollegal where the widening is in progress. Its very bad and affects the overall time but nothing to worry. The roads once closer to BRT and KGudi areas are narrow. Watch out for elephants moving around in the reserve area. I sighted a wild tusker, a herd, a wild dog and many deer.

If you are starting early morning :
Yelahanka - Mysore Rd - Bidadi - Maddur - Malavalli - Kollegala - Yellandur - BR Hills. Roads are perfect throughout. An alternative option is to take Kanakpura Road to Malavalli and then Kollegala -Yellandur - BR Hills. I visited BR Hills last month, more details here (Cool Drives within 150 km from Bangalore).

Since the plan is to ride down, would suggest taking Bidadi as Ankan mentioned in earlier post. Kanakapura road has road widening work ongoing and may be difficult on bikes if it rains.

Re: Bangalore - BR Hills : Route Queries

Any latest info on the route to BR Hills via Maddur would be highly appreciated. Are private vehicles allowed of late and what's the drive like? Reach the summit and then head back? Curious.

Hello all,
I am planning to go to BR Hills and from there onwards to Dhondenling Tibetan Settlement. The start point would be Whitefield Bangalore.

Would be great if you can guide on the route conditions

Re: Bangalore - BR Hills : Route Queries

The best route to BR Hills from Bangalore would be BLR-Malavalli-Kollegala-Yelandur-BR Hills as against the one suggested by Google Maps. The maps suggested the route via Kollegala-Maddur-Vadagere, which was very narrow and in horrible condition.

With Kanakapura road (NH948) in full belter mode, its worth taking it all the way to Yelandur where you exit for BR Hills. Much better an option.

As you may know, Google Maps tends to show alternate roads with the shortest distance; once we get into that route, we feel like getting stuck. This was one such route shown to deviate drivers to a very horrible route. It took me at least 4-5 reporting to correct the Chamarajanagar location on Google Maps a few years ago! There is a toll booth now before Kollegala; similarly, another toll booth has come up near Narasipura!
