What budget are you looking for?

There are many good hotels at 2-2.5k price range.

My primary and most important need a very clean hotel. My budget is 1000-2000 Rs. I was thinking about Ginger Hotels (price around 2000, I think) because I used it in Orissa (Rs. 1200) and was happy.

Hardly any options.Meadows International is a very avg place to stay or else you could stay at Athirappilly which has good places to stay. The other option for you is to stay near Kochi airport or Thrissur and drive about 25kms to Chalakudy from airport or Thrissur.I would reccomend that option rather than staying at Chalakudy.Chalakudy hotels all have a bar attached to them and that should explain the plight of the hotels.

Place to stay: Dakshineswar

Guys,

I am looking for a place to stay for two (me and a friend - a girl, if it helps) at Dakshineswar for a couple of days. The plan is to spend 3 odd days here and another 3 odd days at Belur Math.

Can anyone hook me up to "good" places to stay at in Dakshineswar? Would much prefer to book in advance as opposed to just landing there and looking for a place (since there's a lady friend with me).

Not sure of 5K limit, but there is a ginger next to (well close to) New Delhi railway station.
You can check out at their site.

This was earlier known as Rail Yatri Nivas and Ginger has take it over some time back.

Excellent place to stay, but getting an accommodation is difficult on short notice.

Need info on Triund: Stay and equipment

Hi Guys

Planning a trip to Mcleodganj and then an onward trek to Triund.

Plan on leaving Delhi March 28, 2013, reach Mcleodganj same day

Plan to start trek to Triund on March 29, then on to Ilaqa same day and then come back to Triund to spend the night

I need help on the following:

1. Places to stay at Triund and how to arrange/ book them. Who or where do I go to in Mcleodganj to pre-book these before starting the trek or is there no need to book in advance. Can I go to Triund in the hope of finding stay options for the night without any advance arrangements?

2. Where and how to hire equipment such as rain coats, sleeping bags, tents etc. I believe we can make arrangements such that we pay some booking amount at Mcllo and collect raincoat and stuff we would need en route, with the remaining stuff such as sleeping bags, tents, etc being made available at Triund, with no need for us to carry them all the way to Triund from Mcllo

We are two guys in our 30's. We do not want to carry alot of weight with us on the trek, except essentials

Need help folks!

Thanks
SC

re: A thread on Accommodation & Rates

Am planning a self drive family trip to Kodaikanal and Thekaddy in Mid-April.

Can I be suggested a suitable accommodation at both places for 2 adults and two children (11 years and 8 years).

May be up to 2-3 kms from the lake in Kodai.

Will prefer to have a garden also in the property so that I can laze around.

Range - Around 4000/- per day.

All valuable suggestions are solicited.

Kodai:

If you are ok with stretching your budget to 5-6k a night then Fern Creek is the best in Kodai.Otherwise Zest Coakers is good, www.theferncreek.com

Re: Need info on Triund: Stay and equipment

In July 2009, I went there with my wife on a busy weekend (just as you are going). Triund has the govt rest house but it was full of foreign trekking groups who were camping in the open. There are tents for about 15-20 people there. Do enquire from others before you trek up. Regardless of load, hire a porter if possible. Do ask up in advance for booking the tents:
http://freerider.in/drupal/Travel/Triund has my experience.

Re: Need info on Triund: Stay and equipment

This is bang on time. I am also planning a trek in early April. I have tried to find some numbers of people there. Will share as I get them.

In my opinion, you can reach Mcleod in the morning and arrange for a tent + porter there.

Best,
Tapish
