Daman

We had been to Daman for the new year weekend 31st and 1st night stay. Stayed at Sagar Presidency in Nani Daman (sagarpresidency.com/).
It doesn't really matter whether you stay in Nani or Moti Daman as all places are within a 10 min drive from anywhere in the city. From this hotel, Devka beach (didn't like much, too rocky) was a 5 min drive. Jampore Beach (beautiful especially in low tide) was around 10-15 min drive.

About the hotel: I was basically looking for a place for the night, not the resort kind. When we asked for directions to this place, someone said, go further down, it is on TOP of Axis bank. Well, that's it, no frills like lawns, pool etc.
But, it was a good place to sleep for the night, no issues.
We paid 2500 a night of which 500 was to be redeemed against food at the restaurant. Given an option, don't choose the food thing, unless you are ready to spend 2 hrs even for a chai! Just ask for the hotel stay.

Question unrelated to Daman: On the mdtc website, there are few places listed, but on the forums i find people mentioning "In X, stay at the MTDC", though this X doesn't appear in the pull-down on the MTDC site. Are there more MTDC's than listed on the site?

That is why I was wondering. Have been on that stretch countless times, but never seen this place!
Should be a nice place for a break journey.

Re: A thread on Accomodation & Rates?

Lodged ovenight (9:30pm to 5am, next day) at Hotel Vasantham, in Salem, last week. Decent place, away from the dust and noise of the city. Calm and peaceful place. Ample parking. Appears to be an old property. Hot water is available only between 6am to 10pm (at least, that is what I understood from the room boy). Restaurant is good, open up to 10:45pm. Rotis were great. Curries were ok. There is a BAR in the same campus, for those who are thirsty or just want to pep up their spirits. We have decided to stay here whenever we need to break a journey in and around Salem. Recommended. Hotel Vasantham Home Page home

Re: A thread on Accomodation & Rates?

A friend on mine (travelling alone) will be in Mumbai early next month. Can someone suggest some good hotels preferably close to the domestic airport? He would also prefer hotels which offer airport transfer.

Re: A thread on Accomodation & Rates?

Ranjit,

Not sure whether you'll be able to help out on this old posting. Do you remember where exactly we need to exit NH47 for Chennis? Though I have seen the hotel name on the sign boards on NH47, could not really figure out the exit point. Is there a landmark or exact kilometer mark (say, from Salem) where we need to exit?

If not Ranjit, somebody else have this information?

Regards
Rex

Tariff for an A/C double bed was 1050+taxes. Altogether 1081/-
From NH7, need to take Omalur road deviation (slight left) after GRT Grand. Keep going straight, past the first signal. After you spot the bus stand on your right, keep looking for Sharma Travels on your left. Just before Sharma Travels, take the left. This road leads you to the hotel. There is an arch at the left turn from Omalur road, before Sharma Travels. It's hard to miss.

Rex

Not sure from the 47. But when you are coming down from Bangalore side (Nh7) , you need take left to enter what is called the 5 roads junction. It bang on the 5 roads junction (On the road on the left).

From 47 maybe better to take the by-pass and then hit 5 roads jucntion.

Nh47 to Cenneys

I have stayed there. Very nice place lots of parking but on the expensive side. (4K per night)
