Thanks a lot in advance!
Best is Bhopal-Biaora-Guna-Shivpuri-Gwalior-Agra-Delhi.

You can drive the sector in a day.

Road condition update

I completed the Bhopal - Delhi road journey yesterday and I thought that I would update the current road condition. I hope it would benefit someone traveling.

Route taken: Bhopal-Biaora-Guna-Shivpuri-Gwalior-Agra-Delhi.

Total time taken 16 hours with 30 minutes stoppage time.
Road conditions: Bad to good.

Roads are good for about 120 kms from Bhopal towards Delhi on the above mentioned route. After that it is pot hole ridden. It is not bad but the road would surprise you with sudden pot holes and they are big ones at times.

There is place on the way to Delhi where GAIL India has a storage facilty (forgot the name of the place), as you are about to cross this place, watch out for specially big pot holes. One of them really really huge.

Till Gwalior I could manage only about 40-50 km per hour average speed. The Shivpuri bypaas is pathetic. Go through the city, it might save you some time. I got to know this at one of the pit stops. The guy behind me got ahead of me at this place and we met at a tea shop.

The best stretch is of course Agra Delhi.
Gwalior - Agra road is bad in the Rajasthan part. The work is under progress and according to my estimates it should take more than an year to finish.

In nut shell, drive with caution. Especially vehicles with low GC. Drive safe.

Thanks for the update, looks like NH3 has lived up to its predictable reputation of breaking up during the rains. What were your timings?

BTW, the GAIL facility is at Vijaypur, part of the HBJ pipeline.

Yah, it is Vijaypur! I remember now .

I started from Bhopal at 6 in the morning and reached home in Delhi at 11 at night. 1 hour of that getting stuck in Delhi traffic because it was raining.

Very much a doable plan, maybe you can even better it. Hopefully, the ongoing roads have not battered the Nagpur-Bhopal and Biaora-Gwalior roads.

Kumar sir - I assume you mean ongoing 'rains' Unfortunately, Nagpur/Betul/Bhopal has deteriorated considerably over the last year or so.

Need to do Meerut-Bangalore starting 13-14th Sep with parents. Will be driving an Indigo CS 9-10 hrs a day at most, and would like to see some of the sights we drive past. The GQ route seems to be the best one to stick to (roads via Nagpur are perpetually lousy?) - what sort of an itinerary would you suggest ?

Also, are there TASS's along the way ? Will keep a few numbers handy, just in case. Other suggestions ?

I would suggest you drive from dawn to dusk else you will be travelling for forever!

Drive Plan I would suggest is as follows:
D1: Bangalore-Tumkur-Chitradurga-Davangere-Hubli-Belgaum-Kolhapur-Satara/Pune
D2: Satara/Pune-Bombay-Vapi-Surat-Bharuch-Baroda-Ahmedabad
D3: Ahmedabad-Himmatnagar-Udaipur-Chittorgarh-Bhilwara-Kishangarh/Jaipur
D4: Kishangarh/Jaipur-Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut

Thanks for the zipping-quick response, hv! Of course, I presume the reverse of what you suggested will also work (am doing Meerut to Bangalore).

So Jaipur/Udaipur sounds like good places to take it some touristy sights. What else ? Small detours on lesser country roads welcome as well.
