Re: Two day getaways around Bangalore

You can also look at Kutta (a small town near Nagarhole national park). Nothing much to do there except a safari to the national park.

I do not want to spend most of this time time driving, looking for more of a relaxing getaway with bit of sight seeing around - hence looking for suggestions that are not too far away. But at the same time, not too close a place like Nandi Hills as there is not much to do there over 2 days

Thanks in advance

Re: Cool Drives within 150 km from Bangalore

Made a visit to Karki Kere on Jan 1st before weekend curfew had started in Bengaluru. Location - https://goo.gl/maps/j1pAVDVwzYMpkHU27

I had spotted the lake earlier on the highway drives but thanks to the post (Cool Drives within 150 km from Bangalore) by saikarthik, I got encouraged to take my vehicle down that road. It's a good outing for the car and the family. The road (mud-road) from highway to the motorable end-point is narrow and if you have a very wide frame car with low ground clearance it might be difficult to maneuver through some of the ups and downs ( have a look the dash-cam shots later in the post). But otherwise it is it's easily doable by any one.

There is space for four-five cars to get parked at the end of the motorable road. We parked there and went by walk all the way till the main hill. It is really nice. I and my son were tempted to go all the way up the hill, but it was getting dark in the evening. I am sure we are going again there with ample time and resources (food, water) ready to do the mountain .There is a small temple too on the way to the main mountain.

Photos in chronological order ...

Parked here. There are were 3-4 cars parked on the other side of the mud-road too.

Had a nice early dinner at the Empire restaurant afterwards - https://goo.gl/maps/VGk3koqwz2eipBLYA .The food is same as other Empire restaurants we find in Bengaluru. They have snacks/icecream/tea/coffee options too with nice sitouts.

Overall it was a refreshing short trip.

Yelagiri Hills is another option
The climate in Yelagiri is very similar to that in Bangalore.

Trekking Swamimalai hill is an option. There is a Shiva temple at the summit, and some good views. When we went several years back, there were no shops on the trekking route, but apparently locals sell fruits and water nowadays.

We spent some time at the lake and the park as well.

There were some other good temples also around the place. Traffic was sparse, driving around was not a problem.

We stayed in Hotel Golden Nest, which was decent. Ample car parking, spacious rooms, play area for children, restaurant were available.

Folks, for someone starting from near Indiranagar, what's the best route to visit Ghati Subramanya with current road conditions in mind ?

Via Doddaballapura remains your best bet for Ghati Subramanya as destination.

Since you anyway frequent till Hebbal areas, all you would need to do is to get onto Yelahanka Doddaballapura road and then reach your destination after crossing Doddaballapura. Till Doddaballapura is fully 4 lane tolled road. Post Doddaballapura the road has a median till the turn off for Ghati Subramanya.

I won't know the condition from the SH turn off at the Arch till the temple itself but till here the road conditions are nothing to complain about anyway.

Yes this was the route taken. I got the same recommendation from another BHPian before I started.

It was ages since I'd gone beyond the Ramanashree California resorts junction so got to experience the widened toll road for the first time.

Roads are very good all the way up to the temple. On the way back, we continued past the temple (small ghat and scenic road) junction and joined back on SH9 a little ahead from where we took the deviation (road with entrance arch) onward.

On the way back we didn't take Dodballapur road and instead drove straight on NH648 (erstwhile 207) to Devanahalli. This road is also good and is being widened. Once completed, this will have a new alignment with some villages/towns en route bypassed and hopefully have good connectivity all the way to Hoskote.

This is the nascent Satellite Town Ring Road (STRR).

Re: Cool Drives within 150 km from Bangalore

When the weekend lockdown was lifted in Bangalore, BHPians Roovee, mAndArk and McQueen_95 and me went for a short drive to Sabbanhalli Lake . Its located 75kms away from Kempegowda International Airport. Scenic lake with good views. There are no restaurants/cafes near the lake, if you plan on spending some time there please carry snacks and water.

Re: Cool Drives within 150 km from Bangalore

Had a short day trip last weekend, primarily to drive along quiet yet interesting roads. The round trip of sorts comprised
Yelahanka - Kanakapura - Mekedatu Sangama - Channapatna - Ramnagara - Yelahanka
Cool Drives within 150 km from Bangalore-screenshot_20220213185528.png

The route from the city limits till Kanakapura village was just horrendous (so bad that I was prepared to have any degree of detour to avoid it on the way back). Not a bad detour at all considering I stopped at the famous Kamat Lokaruchi Ramnagara

Started around 7 am and reached Sangama in just under 3 hours, this is where rivers Akravathi and Kavery merge (and hence the name). Route suggested then was along JP nagar towards Kanakapura, not only was the road in a bad state, eateries were also scarce past city limits

Past Kanakapura village as one approaches Mekedatu, the scenery just changes with hills in the background, dense woods and ribbon like tarmac.

Kstdc restaurant at the Sangama is a decent (and the only) joint there, with amenities including rooms for stay as well as changing rooms (did not personally experience either of them, just the restaurant). You park right by the river bank and the sights are beautiful from right there

Sangama is practically a dead end and one needs to retrace back the same route, there are interesting side roads to explore. Do note this is within Mugguru forest premises and there is a checkpoint with entry logged for each vehicle

This place deserves another visit to soak in the sights early in the morning and might not be a bad idea to stay overnight for the same!

Did you take the boat ride to Mekedatu?

It was just a drive by visit, but I must add I did not notice signages about the boating spot to even consider it

Re: Cool Drives within 150 km from Bangalore

Looking for suggestions on weekend getaways within 50-60kms of Bangalore for a small family trip. 2 adults, 2 senior citizens and 1 toddler. Good roads, clean resort with proper parking & decent food is something I am keen on. Will spend 1 night there just chilling with family.

Have been on self imposed lockdown since 2 years (yes am yet to visit even a hotel for food. Ultra-paranoid ), so just looking for a good place to take family out to break the streak with some change of environment. Preferably towards hosur. Thanks in advance

Re: Quick Meets at Bangalore

That was an amazing drive to yercaud over the weekend. Lovely weather, Lovely roads and not much traffic on the highway.

Route Suggestion:Take the default Salem route. We attempted an alternative route which was much more scenic but the roads were almost non existent.

Must Visit: Apart from the lake and other spots to visit, one must visit Peeku Park. Its a Bird Park and its not just an ordinary Bird Park. Here the Humans walk into the Bird Cage. The Humans feed the birds who come sit on us humans and trust me it is such an amazing feeling. There are many other birds there too. https://www.facebook.com/Peekupark/

Planning to cover Ghati Subramanya and Gunjur Lake in a day. Please suggest better route options based on current road conditions.

I will be starting from ECity area.
