I'm apprehensive of the default route shown by Gmaps from Channarayapatna to Mavanuru. Hence asking.

I had used the default route shared by GMaps. The roads after Channarayapatna are narrow and the last 10-15 kms will take you through villages. The road surface condition is good it is asphalted all the till the top of hill. Suggest you to visit the place in the morning (say 7am-9am) because if it gets sunny there is no place to take shelter.

Visited today. Yes, the mud road towards the lake is not great. With some rains last night, it wasn't drivable. Car would get stuck unless you have a 4WD. We parked on the highway itself and walked towards the lake.

We visited Machanabele Dam today and it was quite good

All the entry gates to the dam have been closed for visitors and you can only go to the nearby hillock with a small trek/walk. The place was quite crowded and we decided to stay away from those view points. In case anyone is planning to visit to have a walk over the dam and enjoy the view of the reservoir, You can pick other spots.
The drive was quite okay with mysore road full of traffic as usual. Overall it was time well spent with nice views of the mountains around and awesome weather to support.

Nothing much to do except enjoy the serenity, silence and breathe some fresh air. There is a temple on the top as well.

Google map directs you through some village roads which is quite scenic with lot of twisties, but had to negotiate few craters filled with overnight rain in 2-3 places. There is a small stretch of narrow 'ghat road' to reach the top. Pray no one comes in opposite direction!
The approach road from Kolar is straight forward and quite good too.

Access to Dandinganahalli Dam has been blocked, due to swimming (which had led to a few drowning incidents), trash (including liquor bottles) being left behind.

Unfortunately, this is a problem at this location and I had to photoshop liquor bottles which were floating in the water out of the pics that I had taken here.

While at the dam backwaters, we saw the windmills nearby (can be seen in the first pic in my post), checked the map if there was a road to the top of the hill and we navigated there.

The last 3-4 kms of this road is not in the best shape. Due to rains, lot of shrubs have grown which will rub against the sides and underbody of the car, no other issue.

Visited Hoskote Lake today. This place is good for watching birds. Approach road is not in good shape.

Visited Mutturayaswamy temple near Bettahalli Kaval village off Kanakapura Road. This is about 15 kilometers from nice road junction. Small temple on a hill offering great 360 degree view of surroundings. Good for small trip of couple of hours from south Bangalore. Approach road to hill is is part gravel and part concretised also narrow and steep which allows only one way traffic.

Visited Gunjur Lake again today. Our kids love this place and they had another great day.

Drove to Rassba Farms, a farm specializing in European herbs and exotic Indian vegetables in Hesarghatta (near Nrityagram) as a way to spend the Sunday. The drive minus the last few kilometers was a beautiful mix of forested lands, lakes, and villages.
The visit to the farm includes a tour of their farm, an amazing continental meal prepared with farm fresh ingredients, and an option to buy fresh farm produce. It is a paid visit and needs to be pre-booked, you can find more details and their contact numbers on their website here.
Couple of downsides, the place isn't marked clearly on the map (their current location shows Indiragar ), so you'll have to look for Our Native Village resort on Google Maps (Rassba Farms is right next to this resort), even this isn't easy to find, you'll have to call the hosts and they'll guide you.
Plus points: The hosts are extremely warm and welcoming, and the food is brilliant (you'll never find ingredients this fresh). Now, I'll let the pictures do the talking.

Last friday of the long weekend, went for a drive to Gudibande area. Had found reference for this place on youtube, the plan was to stop by the lake for lunch and trek to the fort. But we skipped it since it appeared that these places were popularized by social media and there was already a big crowd. Instead opted to do a leisure drive which turned out much more enjoyable!

Instead of Google maps suggested shortest route via Hebbal, took a circuitous route via NH207 (Hoskote - Sulibele), joined NH44 at Devanahalli, proceed on NH44 towards Chikkaballapura and took a turn at Beechaganhalli towards Gudibande.

Most of the time, I use Kia inbuilt navigation instead of Apple carplay since it frees up the USB port for music! I have observed that HERE maps used by Kia does a good job most of the time guiding through good and big roads unlike Google which tries to squeeze through narrow village roads in the guise of cutting travel time by 5-10 mins. Also the way HERE maps shows lane guidance in a split screen is very helpful while joining roads or taking turns.

The roads through out were very good and traffic was sparse, probably because we started only by 12 noon. But the highlight of the trip was the last 10 kms after Gudibande town. It was absolute bliss to drive with nice twists and turns, ups and downs, surrounded by hills, various shades of lush greenery, agriculture fields and the lakes.

But one thing to note is that there were no good places for loo breaks in the route I took, surprisingly on the NH44 part too. Nandi Upachar was the only choice available, but it was a scary scene bursting with cars and the crowd much like pre-covid times!
