If you do start early, make sure to have water/pantry loaded as things might not open up early on the route.

Ditto with the RTDC hotel. Have no clue about it. Since its RTDC, security should be good but definitely do read reviews etc (the usual checks!)
Thaks VT-RNS,

Drove this route on 29thDec, Could leave home only around 6:45 am. Reached udaipur Hotel Paras Mahal at 10:30 pm.

First time long distance driving at night.

Crossed Baroda at 4:15 PM, Halol-Samalaji is 4 lane divided highway with good road surface mostly. Once it got dark, I lowered my speed and tried to drive behind a sweeper car until I could join the NH48.

NH 48 for most parts is illuminated and well marked, here too I kept my speed limited to 80 KMPH and followed sweeper vehicles as required.

I kept breaking up the distance in my mind and took water and snack breaks which kept me going.

Once on NH at Samalaji, dint stop untill I reached the hotel.

An earlier start would have possibly helped but as I was tired from my trip on 28th, I decided to leave a little later after a good night sleep.

Thanks once again for your guidance.

Re: Mumbai - Udaipur : Route Queries

Did Mumbai Udaipur on 9th September. Left Chembur, Mumbai at 5:30 AM amd reached Udaipur at 8PM.
Had Lunch at Vadodara at 1:30 PM.
Faced one traffic jam at Maharashtra - Gujarat Border Check post. Rest was usual high volume truck traffic. After Vadodara, roads are good till Udaipur with the exception of Ahmedabad Bypass traffic.

Returned to Mumbai from Udaipur on 24th September. Left Udaipur at 8:30 AM and reached Mumbai at 2 AM. (Our stoppage breaks would be total of 2 hours)

Massive traffic jams after Vadodara. Even entry point of Mumbai had jam at 12 AM midnight!
After Surat, there are potholes on road. Due to oncoming high beams, the car crashed thorough numerous potholes.
Will not recommend anyone to travel at this highway at night due to potholes and unnecessary traffic jams at MH-GJ and Mumbai Border.

Re: Mumbai - Udaipur : Route Queries

Dear TeamBHPians,
I plan to take a road trip with my XUV700 in the first week of December a Sunday to Sunday Trip in Rajasthan from Navi Mumbai.
I am only interested in driving not more than 10 hours per day to enjoy road views and take small halts on the way for memories.

I will be traveling with my wife, so driving during the day is a safe bet.
I am only interested in driving my personal vehicle on highways and use local transport options with a local guide to explore local culture and places to visit without worrying about parking spaces.

Here is my plan
Day 1: Navi Mumbai to Halol (Night Stay at Halol) - Please suggest a good hotel for overnight Stay
Day 2: Halol- Udaipur (Stay at ParasMahal) depending on occupancy - Please suggest whether driving XUV700 for local sightseeing makes sense or
Day 2: Udaipur Sight Seeing hire any cab service (The price of local sightseeing will help)
Day 3: Udaipur to Jaipur Drive
(Please suggest a good hotel to stay in with better vehicle parking to avoid local traffic jams)
I can hire local autos or a guide considering the internally congested roads of Jaipur - Pricing of the city tour will help
Day 4: Jaipur Sight Seeing
Day 5: Please suggest whether to opt for the Udaipur- Halol-Mumbai route again or if there is a better option to explore for an additional 4-day stay with a good hotel for an overnight stay on the way back to Mumbai.

Re: Mumbai - Udaipur : Route Queries

Hi all,

I'll be travelling this stretch (more accurately, Chittorgarh to Mumbai) in December this year. The plan is to break the journey at Vadodara as this is a culmination of a 2 week long road trip, hence would not be in a situation or mindset to drive 14+ hours.

However, I'm unable to find any good hotel along the NH48 bypass in Vadodara. All good hotels seem to be within the city and I'd like to avoid going into the city as the plan is only for a night halt and leave next day early morning to beat MH and Mumbai traffic.

Can anyone recommend good hotels to stay with family on the Vadodara NH48 bypass?

Re: Mumbai - Udaipur : Route Queries

Hey Guys! I am planning few days of Safari at Ranthambore. I have got my train tickets booked however they are in WL. I am also evaluating to drive down. Need suggestions from you all. Another pro of having my own car is that there is lot of hassle of getting the boarding pass for the Safari which is nearly 5 KMs away and then the Gypsy pick up another 2KMs. I am sure the local taxi will empty my pockets with atrocious rates.

Day 1: Mumbai to Udaipur (is it doable to drive to Udaipur in one single day?)

- Max I have driven is 10 hours (driving time) so far
- The travel day will be a Sunday so will there be a lot of traffic?

Day 2: Explore Udaipur

Day 3: Explore Udaipur

Day 4: Udaipur to Sawai Madhopur

- As per Gmaps it will take 6.5 Hours
- How are the roads?
- I have a Safari booked at 3 PM so need to reach hotel latest by 130 PM

Day 5: Safaris at Ranthambore

Day 6: Safaris at Ranthambore

Day 7: Safari early morning then Sawai Madhopur to Udaipur
- Should I take the same route or head to Indore?
- I need to be back on Day 8 by 2PM as I start work then

I shall be the solo driver throughout as I am travelling with my parents. My Father is not comfortable driving an Automatic and I don't wish to take our Manual Car as Automatic will help ease pressure during such long drives.
