Whatever your final route turns out to be, we will sync up at least till Hassan as I will head to Belur and Chikmagalur and start for Karkala only on Sunday with my folks there.

I am sure it will be a micro TBHP drive with just 2 of us on a Saturday (and expect a few more to join who may have not shared their plans yet)

Will let you know. Might have to go via Puttur ( which means via Sampaje ).

Was reading a few recent news articles , all of which say this road repair work was supposed to start after monsoons. What has changed so drastically that they now want to did it during monsoons !!

Shiradi in any condition is less dangerous than the narrow Charmadi during rainy season. Any block on Charmadi will only take ages to clear up if during the rush hour. I doubt B9Rs being able to do Charmadi

There hasn't been anything called "Rush Hour" for Charmadi and how I wish it remains that way in years to come. Sadly, its now a National Highway and we may soon see expansion work if things are already drafted and approved.

I am sure they will not be able to manage at least 4-5 of those 11 Hairpin curves. Quite a challenge it will be if even if they managed to take up this task. I haven't seen/heard B9Rs taking the Charmadi route.

Looking at the way the Hyderabad bound B9Rs manage the Cauvery Theatre Magic Box turn every day, I am doubtful if they can manage those Hairpins on Charmadi.

Yeah , the buses in both directions won't cross on the ghats but maybe just between Belur and mudigere

So if Shiradi is blocked , we will see all the B9Rs on the Madikeri

Enjoy the drive via Kudremukh. If you have time park and visit Hanumangundi falls. But elders would find getting down and climbing up quite steep. But its a beautiful waterfall and its on the way!

Thanks amp and Indeed I will.
Hence I have planned via Kuduremukha for onward and via Charmadi for my return leg. Want to get the taste of Western Ghats at the outset of monsoons.

On Hanumanagundi Falls, I may give it a try but I will be mostly with elders (Parents and relatives) and may have to give a skip as well.

Nevertheless, once the monsoon is at its peak, we have planned the same circuit with friends like we did last year.

Kukke-Dharmasthala : Kukke Gundya-Nelyadi-Dharmasthala.

You can return via the same route. Its good.

Kukke has a new hotel, which I just saw at the Bisle side of the entrance (I think it was comfort Inn). You can take a look.

I have planned to drive to Kukke on the morning of 12th July and return back on 13th. Trust the road conditions don't deteriorate by then.

What ever conditions that folks report here are on the Sakleshpur-Gundya stretch. Gundya-Kukke is an awesome single lane road. With rain and fresh leaves you would enjoy that 20km odd stretch.

Driving from Bangalore to Mangalore on 5th ( The upcoming Saturday ) this would be my first trip on this stretch so can anyone give me an alternative to shiradi ghat in-case it is shut down . I plan on starting from Bangalore around 2pm . Also please suggest on how good or bad the entire stretch is , Don't want the F30 to scrape its belly .The route on Google maps is Bangalore-Hassan-Sakleshpur-Gundya-uppinangadi-BC Road-Mangalore. Please let me know how this road is .

Ah, so they are going let us enjoy Shiradi in Monsoon.

Last time they shutdown Shiradi, many vehicles were still going through. They have to stop that by digging a wide ditch in the middle of the ghat. That way only local traffic can move around.

I don't think I will use either Sampaje or Charmadi, not if I have to battle the trucks and buses in those narrow twisting roads. I will be driving CKM-Balehonnur-Agumbe route once the Shiradi shuts down. It only adds 10kms to my usual drive.

Just reached M'lore. A tanker has toppled somewhere near kokkada. The entire stretch is blocked. Took the deviation after gundya through icchilampady, kadaba, uppinangady.

The initial section of the deviation is good but on either side of the road there is muck where you can easily get stuck. Have to be careful not to get down from the road when there is opposite traffic. Later on the road becomes really bad and yoy have to just crawl till you reach the kadaba - uppinangady highway.
