Just spoke to SmartCat. He has reached Channarayapatna and the trip has been excellent till now.
His wife is handling it well. He has in-laws for support as well.
They are currently having a break (with lunch).
Wishing him the best for the rest of the journey as well!

Folks,

Just a doubt. Is Someshwar on NH13? Satguide says yes. Google maps says no.

Isn't NH13 the route from Sringeri to Karkala?
Someshwara comes on the route from Sringeri to Hebri through Agumbe. Bang at the foot hills.
I'm also confused now.

I dont remember. Its quite some time, since I went there. But I think Sringeri is on Nh13 for sure. Can someone confirm that?

Here's a map from MMI. Sringeri is marked in red. Someshwara in green.
Incidentally it shows NH13 as the road between Kadur and Mangalore through Chickmagalur, Belthangadi and Bantwal. Even Karkala and Moodbidri don't figure in that.

I always used to think that Sringeri and Karkal landed on NH13 (there's another route from sringeri to Karkala through Bajagoli)

However, maps of India shows NH13 as Shimoga, Bhadravati, Tirthahalli, Agumbe, Someshwara etc.
Online Driving Directions, Best Driving Directions, National Highway 13, Road Map Solapur to Mangalore, Distance Map from Solapur to Mangalore

Any local rangers who can confirm which one is NH13?

Satguide says Someshwar to Chikmagalur as NH13. But last time it also told I am on NH13 when I was in Karkala bypass road. Then it also told I was in perduru road when I was at Udupi city bus-stand.

I want to know who did the mapping for them and particularly what they smoked?

AFAIK, NH13 goes from Shimoga via Tirthahalli to Karkala, Moodabadiri to Mangalore. It goes via Sringeri and joins the road coming from Kudremukh before Karkala. It does not go via Agumbe. Google Maps shows the correct alignment of the NH13.

Someshwara is situated at the base of Agumbe ghats. NH13 passes through Sringeri and joins Kudremukh-Karkala road to reach Karkala.

That was my doubt too!

@Samurai,

Satguide show two sets of NH13!!! One via Chikmagulur and the other via Someshwar. I sent them a mail on correction requirements, but did not get any response. I was not sure of Someshwar being on NH13 (even I thought it was near Agumbe). At least I wanted them to correct the two-sets of NH13 that they are depicting. Nh13 definitely does not go through CKM as you said.

Here is Satguide snapshot.

Someshwara is the junction of SH65 and SH1.

From Chikamagalur the route is SH64, right deviation to Aldur, cross NH13 and join SH65, turns left along SH65 to Agumbe, join SH1 and continue upto Someshwara.

Chikmagalur, Karnataka, India to Someshwar, Karnataka, India - Google Maps

Best route is via Tirthahalli or through Karkala.

How are roads between Mangalore and BC road now.

Our bus took a diversion from pumpwell yesterday night and went via Konaje to re join the NH-48 at Melkar! I saw other KSRTC volvos and Rajahamsas as well on this stretch! I forgot to ask about reason behind diversion with driver!

Road on Bykampady mini bridge is totally gone causing frequent jams!

Latest news I heard that, last week Mangalore MLA Palemar had discussion with NHAI officials. They have promised to complete the Koloor and Suratkal flyover by October. But not sure which October

Two weeks back I drove through it in day time. The roads almost complete, some places you have to drive on the wrong side. Except a small stretch, the roads are very good. Of course, there is still no relief from the mind-numbing traffic chaos in B.C road.

Surprisingly, MapsOfIndia maps the route to be via Agumbe and Someshwar:

Online Driving Directions, Best Driving Directions, National Highway 13, Road Map Solapur to Mangalore, Distance Map from Solapur to Mangalore
So now you know the quality of Indian maps.

That's what I've posted above HVK sir, a few posts above, along with other map.

BTW, SmartCat has reached Hassan and is staying for the night there!
