Praveen,

Since your plan is to do this in Sep, Jog falls will not be as glorious as seen in these pictures. Also, doing Jog alone does not make sense and you should club it either with Coastal Karnataka circuit of Karwar - Gokarna - Murudehwar - Udupi - Mangalore or with Malnad circuit. For Malnad, you can look at my post

http://www.team-bhp.com/forum/route-...ve-malnad.html

Apart from PWD guesthouse and KSTDC - conditions may not be good - the best place to stay near Jog Falls is Mattuga Home stay as mentioned by msdivy.

It is not advisable during this time as steps will be slippery. Also you may not enjoy the falls due to mist.

Agreed. Not if you are unfit.

Mattuga is the best bet.

The flow of water will be 40% of what you see in the pictures posted in this thread unless if it rains during the week you plan to go there. The water flow in the falls is controlled by the reservoir which is upstream. If the reservoir is not full, then there will be less water as they don't relase any.

+1.

The best time to go is during the monsoons. Awesome flow and all the three falls will be at their ferocious best!

ive been to jog falls august last week and they were in good flow.

what i wanted to know is status of reservoir this year has it overflown that is when the falls are at their best as the dam at full capacity has to release water.

So far it has not over flown. That is the reason why the falls are not still glorius as of now.

Most of the COUNTRY road in MALNAD area usually goes for a toss during monsoon. So you can surely expect the above roads to filled with potholes. Some stretch of Nagara - Shimoga was done- retarred very recently.

Which route are you planning to take from Murudeshwara to Chikmagalur?
It usually takes close to 6-7 hrs... depending on the route you take.

Are you very much particular about this route ?
As mentioned earlier, it should take close to 6 hrs.
Else you can take the following ones too, which are the shortest ones.
1.Murudeshwara-(Byndor-Kollur) OR BHATKALA-Nagara-Theerthally-Koppa-Jayapura-Balehonnur-Aldur-Chikmagalur (Road is good from Theerthally to Chikmagalur , except from a 5kms stretch after Balehonnur)
2. Murudeshwara-Byndor - Kundapura-Haladi-Someshwara-Agumbe-Sringeri-Jayapura-Aldur-Chikmagalur.

Re: Around Jog

Can someone please let me know road condition in following route: Mumbai - Hubli - Yellapur - Jog Falls - Shimoga - Chikmagalur - Belur - Halebeidu... I am leaving on 30th Aug (2days from now), but worried due to incessant rain in Mumbai. I hope situation is same in KA. Will heavy rain create any problem during the trip? Especially interior roads near Jog and Chikmagalur. I will be travelling in my Hyundai i10.

Thanks in advance for quick response!

hi, have recently done hubli-yellapur...road is super
no idea about Yellapur-Jog'
Jog-Shimoga is good too.
Shimoga-Chikmagalur ..take the route via Lingadahalli...pretty decent...via kadur is horrible (at least was a year back...have been avoiding it since then)
No recent idea about belur/halebeidu route but two years back it was pretty good.
it might rain...but i think it is manageable , i have done all these routes in my santro zing no sweat...so in a i10 i think it should be a piece of cake!!
cheers and happy journey!!!
