with mh. The road between Chikmagalur and Belur/Halebiu is good but for small patches. No worries.

The roads are still holding good - except shiradi ghats - though it has been raining intermittently.

As mentioned earlier, it should take close to 6 hrs.
Else you can take the following ones too, which are the shortest ones.
1.Murudeshwara-(Byndor-Kollur) OR BHATKALA-Nagara-Theerthally-Koppa-Jayapura-Balehonnur-Aldur-Chikmagalur (Road is good from Theerthally to Chikmagalur , except from a 5kms stretch after Balehonnur)
2. Murudeshwara-Byndor - Kundapura-Haladi-Someshwara-Agumbe-Sringeri-Jayapura-Aldur-Chikmagalur.

Re: Around Jog

I just heard from a friend in Sirsi that the roads around Shimoga are best avoided due to the rains. Can anyone confirm this? Will be riding through shimoga around 7th Sept.

Cheers

Re: Around Jog

Just visited Jog, Shimoga, Belur and Halebeidu last week.

Very unfortunate in Jog Falls since I couldn't get a glimpse due to fog.. Raining heavily in that region and Jog Falls in full glory. Only able to hear the wild roar of the fall.

Roads between Jog - Shimoga is bad especially very bad around Sagar.

Shimoga - Halebeidu on NH206 is in good condition except last 20km on NH234 before Halebeidu is very narrow road with bad surface.

Belur - Hassan is super 2 lane road.

Hassan - Bangalore is also excellent road partially 4 laned..

Thank you very much to all who helped me before the trip!

Re: Around Jog

Rode from Gokarna to Bangalore via Sagara and Shimoga yesterday. Roads are quite alright except for a few stretches of ghat about 35km before Jog Falls.

Cheers

Re: Around Jog

hi my trip is completed

saw jog falls on 5sep and 6sep morning the falls were quite good with excellent visibility.the volume of water was good not exactly niagara but what was good was visibility with a few rainbows created in evening sun.

i do not know what happened after 6sep as i moved to murudeshwar. at that time the reservoir had 6meters still to fill up completely.

was anyone at jog on 5/6sep?

status of roads excellent roads till yelllapur from dandeli excellent buttersmooth surface till siddapur mavingundi jog.

very bad roads in gersoppa ghats last few kmw are good.

nh 17 excellent surface from marvanthe to murudeshwar. very bad patches from murudeshwar to honavar. good from honavar to kumta.
excellent from ankola right into goa.

inside roads to kollur and jadkal vandse to kundapur are excellent.

nh4 till kolhapur has some gravel unloosened but overall still good.kolhapur to belgaum you can fly in 80mins.

will give specific stretch info with pics in travelogue

Re: Around Jog

Bumping up an old thread since I had a query about Jog.
I am planning to visit Maravanthe beach in Kundapur this friday. We plan to reach Shimoga on thursday night for overnight halt, and visit Jog falls on friday morning (yes, even though there is no water in this season ). We will then continue to Maravanthe beach via SH50 from Jog falls to Bhatkal and then do Bhatkal - Maravanthe along the coast to reach Maravanthe by afternoon-evening. Google maps route link here -

NH 69 to NH 66 - Google Maps

What is the road condition from Sagara to Jog falls at this time? And more importantly, what is the road condition of SH50 from Jog falls to Bhatkal?? We are 4 friends and will be doing this trip in a Palio GTX, so if the roads are very treacherous, we may have to drop this de-tour plan take the regular route via Agumbe-Someshwar ghats or the standard Mangalore route.

Re: Around Jog

I dont have the latest updates. But I remember many people using this section for biking.
More than Bhatkal, I think people have used this stretch for Kollur-Jog biking (cycling) trips.

This is not a very recent update, so conditions might have changed. I had been from Kargal to somewhere in the ghat (I forgot the name) during monsoon last year. The road is good within the Linganamakki project area, but after that, it is bumpy and rough in some places. I don't remember seeing lot of potholes though.
