Cost of maintenance
1 Esteem- Spares cheap now and maruti service is reliable
2 Indigo- Spares reasonably cheap, but Tata service a few notches below Maruti
3 Ikon- Expensive spares and service not exactly inexpensive
4 Petra- Spares are expensive (getting cheaper since the past few months) but the car does not need too many visits to the service centre except for regular service. But service is nothing worth writing home abo
Since the starter of the thread has already made his decision no point in discussing further.
Still FYI:
Petra/Palio spares are much cheaper than Ikon ones. If I remember correctly, as per Overdrive survey, it is same if not cheaper compared to Esteem and indigo.

Another instance of bad quality of TATA Cars

My Uncle had to replace the engine of his 7 months old Marina, was done under warranty luckily, otherwise a bill of 1L. Reason given by ***: Fuel and Engine oil got mixed due to faulty recirculation duct seal.

Just another instance of qualuty issues with TATA products
