hi guys,
had finalised the deal with SBI for the finance.
the details are as follows;
Fiat Petra 1.6 ELX OTR 6.1L (discount of 20K so effective OTR 5.9 L)
Finance amount 5L
and i talked to the TVS guys at chennai, which put me to another dilema..
they now say that, they donot have an ELX on stock (it seems they had to move the last couple of ELXes to madurai as they had booking there. which i really doubt).. they want to push the older EL PS model, for which they have come down to 5.1 L OTR.
is it okay for me to go for the 1.6 EL PS model (which is EII and manufactured March 05').
or should i just ask them for the ELX, which they seem to be quite reluctant to sell...
i need some advice here folks,, kindly help...
ak

Can't they 'order' an ELX for you? I can understand a dealer not having ready stock but being reluctant to order a new one from the manufacturer sounds slightly ridiculous.

Have they indicated any timeframe for a new ELX IF you were to insist on one? If you're still keen on the ELX, stick to your decision and push the dealer.

You'd be better off with a brand new ELX anyday than an EL PS which has been sitting in the showroom for a few months.

that's true...
but they have been saying that, it would take atleast 2 or more months for getting a new car from the factory...
and more over, the car in the showroom will not be having any problems ...
i know they are trying to push the EL PS (for a price of 5.1 OTR that would be a steal)
so is it okay to take the bait here???

I would not buy E-II unless I am really short on money. I checked with dealer and it seems Fiat started its production from October 11 (Please note, I am quoting Fiat dealer and not Fiat). He was quite frustrated about Fiat not being able to bring production up and he had to let go few Palio bookings during festival season. On second thoughts, we'll also come to know if Fiat India has really stopped or started their operations in Kurla.

i too was not so enthusiastic about the EL model.
and they will not be able to get a ELX model within this month.
so i'll be booking the ikon 1.6 later today.
hope that decision is good enough.

Looks like Fiat recorded -1 sales - a customer wanted the car but the dealer refuses to supply.

If you are not in a hurry - hang around for the Fiesta?

Congratulations! The Ford Ikon 1.6 should serve you well. Watch out for the wrongly placed (my opinion) indicator and wiper stalks though, if you're used to Maruti, Hyundai, Tata or Fiat (except the first lot of Sienas / Unos).

Yes, since you did mention that you werent in a particular hurry why not wait till Ford announces the Fiesta pricing to see if it falls in your budget?

You can probably talk to the dealer and book an Ikon 1.6, but say that you would like to hold on to the delivery till you have the prices for Fiesta...I'm sure they'll be glad to oblige.

Hang around for the Fiesta. Don't plonk your money on the 1.6 just yet.

i don't think fiesta would be in my budget!!!
around 51/2 to 6 L. If this offer on the 1.6 goes void, even the ikon 1.6 would not be in my budget!!!...
so that is the current scenario!!

Hmmm. Your call Avinash. I think what you say makes sense. But I am a bit skeptical about your choice knowing that Ford is going to phase out the Ikon.

What I forgot to add, by way of clarification was this - If the Ikon is being phased out, you will get a 'good' deal no matter when you go to buy the car. So just wait.

There is no way ford will phase out Ikon so soon because this car is what drives fords sales figures and revenues. Discontinuing IKon without seeing the performance of Fiesta will be foolishness. but certainly Ikon 1.6 makes a good deal at the current price.

Petra still by no means is bad. Both are good. The SEFI engine or the DOHC powerhouse both are good in performance and value.
