This thread is a very nice way of keeping track of things to do, that we take for granted. Good work SDP.
I did not realize the value of Weight control until just few days back, when i went for running with a close relative of mine, who was preparing for his 28 mile Marathon.
I am half his age, yet i could not run half the distance he ran without taking break for every 15 mins.

Felt ashamed, I resolved to do some exercise. Started running this week on a tread mill at a Recreation Center, as running outside would be impossible for me ( Current Outside temperature : -33 C )

My Weekly Update:

Weight Control

1) Ran 1.5 miles within 15 minutes at a speed setting of 5.7 mph on a tread mill.Incline angle : 0. Planning to run 3 times a week like this. I will increase the running distance and speed setting gradually week by week.

2) Regular walking ( sometimes running too ) to and fro college, which is almost 2-3 miles per day in -33C.

Reading

1) Determined to read 25 pages daily of a book. Started with " A monk who sold his Ferrari " Ended up reading 50 pages yesterday.

Core Work

This is the part i lag. Studying atleast 5 hours a day is my new target.

Home Maintenance

1-2 hours of household work daily , which involves cooking and cleaning Kitchen. etc

I can understand your feelings pretty well!

Are you in Antartic/Artic/Siberia/Alaska/Mars/Pluto??

Sorry about the weekend update:

1. walking continues - astonishingly, i completed 3 kms in 12 mins! (normally I would take about 20-22 minutes) but that day I started late and missed the bus too, so was hurrying to catch my train. Well, that's when I said -

"I have done enough workout for the year 2013 and from the next day started taking bus both ways.

2. Work - Nearing a very important phase of life -> hence very busy or trying to be busy! So no other work(physical/chemical) until that important phase is completed successfully.

I am in Midwest of US and my city is pretty famous for these type of temperatures

Is that running? Because walking 3 kms in 12 mins would be impossible, atleast for me

Are you planning to join the US Armed forces/Secret service? slow down mate! You are making me feel jealous!!

You do things at -15 and I am cribbing about -7 and staying away from doing any physical activity!!!

Physical activity: Are you joking? I am taking the bus! occasionally walk the 6 kms! No cycling possible due to bad weather and lots of snow.

Useful work: a lot!

Reading: Went in search of some more Tom clancy series of books - but since all of them I found were in German didn't buy (there is no fun in reading translated versions! Its like watching those jackie chan movies in desi language!) will order online most probably.

I, joining those agencies has the same probability of Mars rover returning with water to earth

This was my first winter here and it used to be very tough walking outside even with full winter gear on, especially when its less than -30C.

Its my thought that i burn more calories by weight of my winter gear
than with walking

Btw, are you in Europe ?

Re: Reclaiming my life - one day at a time

Thanks for this post SDK. Had a wake-up call a few months back and the last 5 or 6 months hasn't been the same for me.

1. Health : Quit smoking. Have been exercising regularly, 6 days a week - general warm-up and stretching exercises, surya namaskar, push-ups and occassional jogging. I'm also drinking enough water and keeping an eye on what I am eating. Except occasional mild drinking with friends, no health vices.

2. Reading : At any point of time in the last 5 months, I've been reading a book. Completed with 'The Bookseller of Kabul' and started with 'The Big Bad Wolf' yesterday.

3. Work : The reading habit has helped. I am an IT Engineer for a mid-sized MNC and my job at most times require me to a lot of technical research. Earlier, when I come across a 'big paragraphs' to read, I used to skip them and look for shortcuts. Needless to say, while I was able to make things work, the knowledge imparted from the experience was minimal. But not anymore

5. Recreation : Bike rides, photography and a bit of guitar. Bought a new Avenger and have been going for rides regularly. Some solo and some with a couple of friends. The longest being a Trivandrum - Kodaikanal trip (800 km both ways). Another long one in the pipeline for next month.

6. Family, friends : Have never been too busy for family and friends. Matters a lot to me.

Thanks, once again, for this thread

Appreciate the kind words, DudewithaFiat. Glad that the thread could help!

"Family & friends" are extremely critical for a balanced life, but we do tend to de-prioritarize them often. And unlike a few would believe, facebook is not the answer.

Would love if you can share regular updates to keep me motivated.
