Have made it a habit to wear my seatbelt right from 2000 when we had seatbelts fitted into our 1987 model Maruti 800. Now I belt up even when I'm in the passenger seat even before the car is moving....ofen to the amusement of the driver who isnt wearing a seat belt.

Have had a couple of scary experiences where a seatbelt has really saved me from serious injury...in one case i had bruise marks on my chest for almost a week from the seatbelt!!! Still better than a broken nose right??

In the city, I wear seatbelts only if compulsory. E.g. I wear them in Mumbai and do not wear them in Pune. In the highway, I always wear them. So I did not vote, since there does not seem to be a corresponding option.

I wear 'em only on highways. I feel like taking 'em off once the highway ends and the city limits start.

BTW.. my uncle's old Maruti doesn't have 'em, and my cousin occasionally drives it on highways... just like that! Is it possible to get them fitted? How much would it cost?

I am still learning driving, but my instructor insists on me wearing seat belt every time i enter the car, though he himself doesnt wear it !
On my first day, even though it was just a theory session of familiarizing with the various controls and pedals, he made sure that i wear it ! According to him, a lot of things that you do are habits that you develop, so its better to start developing the habit right from the beginning. Now reading your posts, i feel that i am doing the right thing.

Always. In city as well as highways. Even if it is a short drive to the grocery store (Well, should I be using a car for a short drive around the corner is a different question altogether, probably fodder for another poll?)

These days looking at the way people drive in a city like Pune, you tend to wear one. It's like -- I am driving, you take care of yourself mode. It is very scary. Better be safe.

Premier Padmini: i dont wear seat belts, no seat belts provided
dad's m800: wear seat belts before cranking the engine.

wearing seat belts is compulsory @ Kolkata and most parts of West Bengal.

OT: wearing helmets is also compulsory.

Always wear them - in fact I always make it a point to insist on the passenger seat occupant to wear it too. I feel uncomfortable driving without the seatbelt on - even if it be a few hundred metres.

Sometimes I do need to take it off briefly - say when I need to twist around to look behind / peer out the window while backing into a parking slot.

Option 1 for me. Have got so much use-to wearing seat belts (thanks to Delhi Govt. for making it mandatory), that I feel uncomfortable without them! I even wear them in Mayura AC Buses run by KSRTC (karnataka) !

Option 1 holds good for me. I'm so acclimatised to the seat belts that I cant sit in a car which has no seat belts.

Wife and I always wear seat belts, its something we do the moment we step into the car. insist other passengers to wear it too.

As a case in point, we went on a tour down south, i made all six co passengers to wear seat belts all through the journey.

regards
krishna.

PS: I have taken conscious effort and have made atleast a dozen of my friends and colleagues to wear seat belts regularly.
