Thank you for your comments, Majumdarda. To explain the sizes, I have taken a JL ('69 Mercury Cougar), two AWs (Gorgeous Caddys), two Kyoshos (Bentley Turbo R and Mulsanne) and various TLVs. The GLs are in another place, so could not add them.

Here goes

From a Transporter to a car

JL was bought by TOMY(Tomica) in 2011 and discontinued in 2013.

Loved taking it out from storage for the shots. Hope you enjoy as much as I enjoyed taking the snaps :-)

Thank you very much for sharing these. Loved them a lot. Especially that Hino Transporter (which unfortunately I could not afford).

Below are some of my TLVs. Feels nice to come across another TLV appreciator.

Absolutely, Fintail. Imposing is the word. I see that you have the three-pointed star as your avatar (with the legendary number 722?). For your viewing pleasure, a 1967 Mercedes-Benz 280SE by AUTOart in 1:18.

Enjoy!

All said and done- everyone knows that I am a Mercedes Benz fanboy, lol.

Love the Mercedes 600 too. Amazing car. And some famous (e.g pope) if not to say quite notorious owners. (E.g. Iddi Amin, Sadam Hussein and of course lets not forget Jeremy Clarkson although he is notorious for very different reasons then the other two gentlemen!)

The 4x4's our kids drive...

Wasn't sure if there were any dedicated threads for this kind of thing yet.

Let's face it, the initial investment is much smaller; no payment plans, no insurance, they have a very small carbon footprint, and no scheduled maintenance. They can be self-driven pretty much anywhere any time, with almost no rules and very few risks. And they probably make their owners as happy as those holding the BIG toys.

There are times (especially when my hands are grimy from the latest repair project on the Marshal) that I think of shifting to some small, high, remote village with no road, and just enjoy the views and in lieu of driving, play more with my kids and their toys...

Just a few examples here... all sourced in India, of various manufactures:

The Scale Model Thread-wp_20150724_19_12_47_pro.jpg
The Scale Model Thread-wp_20150724_19_13_50_pro.jpg

The unmistakable Mahindra Classic, actually my son's friend's (my son's is white, and by now has had the tires, roll bar, windscreen, bull bar, etc, ripped from it (it's not the Ladakh taxi union - he's just a little hard on his vehicles, as you will see in the next few frames).

The Scale Model Thread-wp_20150725_09_08_57_pro.jpg
The Scale Model Thread-wp_20150725_09_11_29_pro.jpg

Curious little thing. Grill/hood a little inaccurate, but seems to be in the spirit of an early CJ with a boom / tow kit (wonder how that would work out in real life!). Please forgive the missing tyres/hook here; my son is...well... (Beloved).

Now this is interesting. Mattel co. (made in Malaysia); Early 1980's model Jeep Scrambler pickup. A U.S.-market offering also known as the CJ-8.

Hoping others might post some of their kids' favorite 4x4's here. Have seen Toyota RAV-4's and FJ's in local shops, and there must be a lot of other stuff out there. There were a couple others around here that are in pieces too small to photograph meaningfully. Should've thought of this sooner...

Regards,
-Eric

Re: The Scale Model Thread

@ringoism - I had bought my son the same exact Scrambler ( its lost by now). Same fate for most of the toys with wheels as well. Have resorted to building up a separate collection that he is not allowed to play with that is reserved only for Daddy to play :-).
We both had fun putting together a model Citoen. Will put up photos someone.
I saw the FJ Cruiser and Wrangler and liked them , hope to get them sometime soon.

I'd posted this in the wrong place yesterday, and having been relocated, am bowled over to find nearly 800 pages of scale models (which are really a different thing from "toys", as the condition of those I put up clearly indicates) already there in the forum!

Not going to apologize, though, because it's kids - their wild imaginations fully intact - who are able to go places and do things with these little cars that we adults are hardly able to dream of. I can understand the desire to keep them nice on a shelf - and complain frequently of my son's ill-treatment of his fleet. But then again, in the case of 4x4's at least, they really are supposed to get a little rough and dirty...

Deccan Herald 03-08-2015

"REPLICATING REALITY"
Anushree Agarwal, August 3, 2015, DHNS

Exciting avocation

"I BUILT IT!”- that squeal of joy upon completing a model, denoting an incredible sense of accomplishment, is what prompted Sunil Dev Prasanna to come up with the name of his professional model-making workshop, perhaps the first in the City. An architect by profession, Sunil, together with his wife Zoeya, gave wings to his passion for this unique hobby in May this year. “Model-making is replicating reality to scale, in detail.

Miniature models of ‘Russian tank KV-1’, ‘Panavia Tornado’ (fighter aircraft) and ‘AH-64 D Apache Longbow’ (helicopter) adorn the workstations along with motorcycle and ship replicas. He shares that owing to Indians’ fixation for cars, they are also planning to bring assembly kits for beauties like the ‘Mercedes Benz’, ‘Ferrari’ and ‘Lamborghini’. “Many students have shown interest in constructing spacecraft models. We’re even opening up to people’s imagination and thinking of incorporating fantasy figures from Game of Thrones, The Lord of the Rings etc.”

Wonderful article!! Thank you, Vinay. That Mirage 2000 looks great!
If you remember, you had also posted about my article in Deccan Herald in 2012 (page 749 of this thread). Thank you.

Random shot of my new rolls Royce ghost in white to go with my phantom. Already had the ghost in silver but I thought these two would look good together. Need to properly shoot them sometime.
