If this is not possible, try to include monthly maintenance costs and cost of wear and tear in the calculations. For example, an amount of Rs 1000 per month would be required for car maintenance - which includes routine servicing, oil change, tyre wear and tear, interior and exterior cleaning, cost of car perfume etc.

Also, I would advise you to have an understanding with pooling members regarding sharing of repair expense in the unfortunate even of car being involved in an accident during car pooling.

Even though Rohan makes sense, but wont it make his car as a pick up cab being a private number plate the only differential ? Moreover, the other members would now vouch it as a right to commute only in his car since they are paying for it.
Personally, I think carpool isn't some sort of contract and is mostly volunteered. It should not be binding IMO. If you feel like doing it with likeminded people, go for it, but then you have to consider the facts like
1. Its your car
2. They are your seats
3. The floor mats too are yours
4. You dont like doors being slammed
5. Windows should be rolled up when its dusty outside etc etc. (phew)

It's tough man. I feel best in my car when I am all alone But that no way undermine the benifits of carpooling.

Thanks.

How about another alternative: A regular taxi booked long-term? All of you go together, it surely will cost the same or less, none of you needs to drive, you avoid petty quibbles about door-slamming and punctures, and you save the planet! Its all good!

Cheers,

re: The Car Pool Thread

Having done car-pooling for years, IMO, the money part is the simplest and at worst a one-time effort to arrive at. What is more of an issue is syncing time of the participants,
so that one person does not end up waiting for the other. And possibility of this happening is directly proportional to the number of people in the car-pool.

While I stopped car-pooling some years ago (since the colleague I was pooling with shifted residence), my sister has been successfully doing it with 4 other
teachers of her school for few years now. Only 1 car is used (our M800), with the others contributing a fixed amount per day for the 40-km to-and-fro commute.
Works well for everyone, since there is no direct bus to the school and if not for the car, they would have to take atleast 2 buses + an auto for the last leg, And that is 1-way.

I am traveling alone and can take in three passengers with luggage. Plan to leave Bangalore at 14 hours. If anyone planning to travel this route, feel free to join. No need to share fuel. Just good talk will do.

Re: The "Hyderabad to Bangalore" Thread

As there was no response from anyone, I took the bus to and fro.
Is there any better way to address this carpooling effectively?
I am sure many Team bhpians travel to Bangalore/Chennai/Vizag on every weekend.

re: The Car Pool Thread

I'm driving to Chennai on the evening of 30th April and if anyone wants to come along, they're welcome.

I will be leaving from Electronics City (time not confirmed yet but mostly between 5.30pm and 6.30 pm). We can share the fuel cost and since I'm driving a diesel it will be very economical as well.

Rehaan, that looks pretty good, though a little complicated at the first glance. Anyone tried it yet ? I guess it is for bangalore only as of now ?
