The Car Pool Thread

With oil prices soaring day-by-day and also since we don't have any obligations to make Arabs richer, Car Pooling seems to be the ideal option to salvage your money and with Car Pooling sites like ******** gaining popularity, how many of the T-BHPians have started Car Pooling ?

With lots and lots of cars being single driven; Car Pooling seems to become a hit (atleast in the metros). In addition to reducing traffic jams & pollution; Car Pooling also helps to share fuel/maintenance/parking costs...
Another plus point is Networking which helps to meet & make contacts with new people. Who knows, you may even meet your potential spouse during Car Pooling !!!

Pooling works if there are like-minded neighbors whose places of work are in the same direction; and all members have cars to rotate and share costs. Office timings matter too.

Each of our offices are in opposing directions for pooling to work for us.

I have been car-pooling for 3 years now (from Aug2003) with a colleague who lives near my home. We bring our cars on alternate days and so far the experience has been good.

Advantages I see :
1. Halves our fuel bill - instead of each spending 2.5 litres daily, we need to do that only alternate days.
2. Every other day we can ride without the stress/tension of driving in city traffic. Reduces BP etc and adds to health.
3. Have someone to assist in case of a flat tyre or other car problem or in case of any accident.
4. Saves a non-renewable resource. Also improves India's BoP position.
5. Reduced car wear and tear.
6. Help reduce traffic on the roads and pollution.
7. Save on parking charges at workplace.

Cons :
1. Need to sync timings with the other person.
2. If one gets delayed, the other would also need to wait.

I actually started carpooling this month with my sibling (we work together). The intention was to use that 30 minute journey for business discussions etc., but in the bargain....I save about 8000 / month in fuel and parking costs.

I did it while I was in the US. Not exactly to save my fuel costs but to use the HOV lane as my ruote to work used to be pretty busy during peak hours and the HOV saved me a lot of time.

Sorry for starting an old topic but I guess not too many Tbhpian from Mumbai are opting for it or are they? Atleast I do.

I live at Mira Road and come till borivali in a rickshaw and join my other colleagues in another colleague's car. Otherwise if everyone is coming on its own, there are 5 cars that are coming at almost the same time and to the same location from close by distances. Even better option is to pool in with a colleague who has been given a co. provided car so that even he doesn't feel the heat of the fuel prices and even others are happy!!!

Car pool thread for all BHPians

Hi,
Looking at the current scenario where petrol prices are going up like Rockets. Only way to save money on petrol is Car Pool or Public transport. Looking at the public transport in Delhi (personal experience) it is very difficult reach office on time and without hassles.

Especially from Gurgaon to Delhi where the public transport is negligible.

Second option is a Car pool where not only you save money and comfort of a car and also meet different people and win friends for life.

Me and my friend Avik met thru a carpool site and started our pool from sector 56 gurgaon till Okhla Industrial estate.

Hence we invite all the interested people who believe in the Concept of Car pool.

Trust me it is devine when you dont have to drive in city traffic and more the people less the driving(well 5 is a crowd 4 in car is goooood )

Please get in touch with me

Manu Sharma

Take care
God bless

We can use this thread for finding suitable pool for all who are interested irrespective of the city.

msharma - I guess since people have started buying Swift Diesels / Vernas / Logans / magnums / fiestas etc etc. I do not think they give a **** about petrol / disel prices.

On a more serious note - we should be doing more carpools but then at the end of the day people nowadays do not have so much time to bother about this. Also there is acertain privacy when you are alone in the car but not when you car pool. I am afraid it is not a bg success in India.

Mumbai Pune car pool

Friends

I often drive alone to my parent’s in Pune on weekends, and would love good company from Team BHPians.

On offer are these 2 lift opportunities.

From: Worli, Mumbai
To: Wanowrie, Pune
When: Friday Sep 21 5PM
Notes:
- Planning to go via Matunga(E), Vashi, Expressway. Can pick-up along the way
- Timing unfortunately cant change.
- Not looking to make money. But would appreciate contributions to tolls. I'll handle fuel.
- Hoping to stop 1 or 2 times on expressway and soak in scenery.
- Expect to be in Pune by 9PM. Happy to drop you along the way, or to your building if close to expressway.
- Post on this thread or contact me at 99676 50632

From: Wanowrie, Pune
To: Worli, Mumbai
When: Sunday Sep 23 5PM
Notes:
- Timing flexible
- Other notes same as above

Starting this thread, hoping to meet like minded people.

I’d like to take my car this time, but I'm happy riding in your car another day.

Security was a mild concern. To mitigate, let’s quickly chat on phone. I believe that people are generally good.
