I am on the lookout for a good online tutor. Would you be ok to DM me contact details of his tutor? Thanks in advance.

Hey! I'm also a beginner bass guitarist. I play the Yamaha TRBX304 (a different model in the TRBX line-up to which the TRBX174 belongs). I have nothing but good things to say about it! So, I'd say to go for the TRBX174!
Which USB interface did you buy? Is it good? I'm also looking for a basic USB interface.

Sorry for many questions, but not having any idea in this field have put us in a spot.
Trinity, Rockschool London. They go upto Grade 5 and conduct exams across the country in Music schools. Legit.

My purchase got delayed by a few months due to college admissions so I had time to do some research and just think about what I prefer between guitar and bass.

In the end I walked into a music store in the first week of October, tried out a few of both and in the end walked out with a black Epiphone SG Special VE and a Boss Katana Mini 7W amp, went with the Boss over a Marshall or Vox amp as the Katana Mini can run on AA's which is helpful as my hostel room has only two power sockets (one has my laptop charger and the other my phone charger).

I'm very happy with this setup, the Epiphone SG looks good, plays smooth and despite being one of the smaller beginner amps at 7w compared to something from Vox, Orange or Marshall which are usually around 10-15w it still sounds great. Next step would be to get a good interface and a cheap overdrive pedal, Behringer makes a great Overdrive Distortion (OD300) and a Vintage Tube Overdrive (TO800) pedal for Rs 3,500 (stompbox.in) but that's at least 6 months away.

Why not a combo multi-effects pedal? Something like the Zoom G1X Four?

I believe Katana has pretty good overdrive and distortion built-in, actually much better than most pedals. It may sound weak only because of the small speakers of your current setup. (Well not wanting to state the obvious, but even externals pedals will sound weak due to speaker size)
If you really wish to spend anything more, it should be on Wah pedal, phaser/chorus, delay.

Re: The Guitar Thread - Post all queries, tabs and info here

I have been taking online classes over WhatsApp video call. But there is annoying noticeable time lag when I play together with my tutor.

I wonder what app/software is being used for online classes/for jamming online (like what we saw during covid restrictions)

Hello BHPians, I have been playing acoustic guitar from last 4 years, I took it as a hobby during lockdown and I have mostly self learned it, I’m not saying that I am good at it but I have learned the basics well. Earlier, I used to play it within 2-3 days but I’m able to touch it only once in a month. The problem I’m facing is with the strings, they get rusted in a month. I wanted to know what strings do you guys suggest for an acoustic Yamaha guitar which is prone to rusting.

Try D'addario strings. Try to keep the guitar in the cover when not in use. Should be fine.

Thank you Saket77 for your prompt reply, if I may ask, do you suggest any specific type/variant of the D’addario strings, because at the moment I’m using D’addario bronze & it’s easy to play but it rusts too. Earlier, I had the strings which came with the guitar itself, they were slightly stiffer but didn’t rust. And regarding the cover, I always keep it covered unless I’m playing it but still, it’s developing rust. Your suggestion would be of immense help

If your fingers sweat little too much, then you should wipe the moisture off the strings with a clean cotton cloth by pinching each string with the cloth and rubbing it from neck to the saddle. Though I do not face this problem too much but I have seen some guys using little bit of coconut oil on the strings but I’m not sure if it’sa good practice or not. Since you asked, I’m also using bronze strings currently- EJ16.

Thanks.

That helps, I don’t follow this practice of wiping down each strings after I play, I should take care of the moisture before placing it back in the cover. Thank you so much Saket for your prompt response. Much appreciated.
