Re: ICC Cricket World Cup, 2019

Kohli's soft dismissal was like playing to a script, I did not see Virat's typical reaction when he gets out to bad deliveries. He was cool walking back to dressing room. English batsmen swallowed Chahal like full meals, Kedar did not bowl a single over.

rajiv, India is delaying the inevitable and batsmen are still fighting out against England. This batting effort will overshadow the efforts of Manoj Prabhakar and Nayan Mongia in a ODI against WI in 1993.

Simply put India has thrown the match, isn't it?

Looks like England are all over India now, and its probably all over bar the shouting. Rohit just seems to be running out of gas, and Rishabh Pant is trying his best to either run himself or Rohit out.

Re: ICC Cricket World Cup, 2019

Clearly India lacking the intent to fight or may be I can even use the term lacking the intent to win. Very disappointing finish this is going to be given that Dhoni is interested only in taking singles for the last 6-7 overs. Not even trying for big hits. Poor Batting display in the last 8-10 overs.

This is beyond explicable from Dhoni and Kedar Jadhav. 34 runs scored between overs 44 and 49. Looks like no intent to win.

Surely looked like a strategic move to lose the match with as less runs as possible so that the net run rate is not affected much.

Re: ICC Cricket World Cup, 2019

If Kedar Jadhav doesn't bowl, then its better to have Vijay Shankar instead, he can bowl around 3 to 4 overs and score more than Jadhav or keep Jadhav and Bhuveneshwar instead of a spinner
Dhoni is clearly struggling both infront and behind the stumps, Rahul can do with some more positive intent.
I am happy with the rest of the team.

Hats off to the guy who planned this chase, both Bangladesh and Paksitan are virtually eliminated. I personally feel that India should be thrashed out of semi-finals.

Not yet. Pakistan will be tough to beat in their next match so England will have to win their next match against New Zealand to ensure their ticket to the semis. NZ even if they lose, should have a much better run rate than Pakistan so their place should be assured.

Edit: The para below taken from Cricinfo's commentary perfectly sums up the mood all over the country, and possibly our neighbors too. Although I'd say the whole batting lineup was to blame, not just the last pair.

George Dobell pings from Egbaston that India are getting booed. Not entirely unsurprising given how that final bit played out... Our stats editor S Rajesh tells me, "7 dots, 20 singles, 3 fours, 1 six - in 31 balls of the Dhoni-Jadhav partnership".

Re: ICC Cricket World Cup, 2019

Although it was pretty evident that they were only trying to reduce the margin of defeat in the end, I don't think it was just the middle order's fault. The match was lost in the first 15 overs, where we scored just 45 odd runs. You can't do that chasing 335 and expect to win. Rohit and Virat consumed wayyy too many balls, and didn't bat long enough to make up for it. Dhoni, Pandya and Kedar had a near impossible task in face of some very smart England tactics and field placements in the last 10 overs

Either of Kedar Jhadav or KL Rahul needs to be replaced by DK. In case it is the latter, we can very well see Pant opening the innings with Dhoni at 4, Pandya at 5 and DK at 6.

Re: ICC Cricket World Cup, 2019

So it's pretty clear that Kedar Jadhav won't be given the ball. Am guessing he will mostly be replaced by Jadeja in next game against Bangladesh and high time to give DK a go in place of maybe Pant or Rahul, most likely the latter.

England has to win against New Zealand and Pakistan has to win against Bangladesh to seal the 4th spot. I believe now Pakistan has a stronger chance to qualify considering New Zealand would be a tough team to beat for England. Finally some juice in the otherwise boring tournament

Re: ICC Cricket World Cup, 2019

I am just glad that they defeated pakistan again
It was nice to see all those opportunistic pakistanis cheer for India till the 45th over and then when they realized what was going on they booed team India.
No more free gifts dear neighbour, please earn your own spot.

I am not sure why people can't accept that England bowling was good in death overs, would it have been better to see team India get all out at 280 odd runs trying to please thy neighbours. A loss was inevitable but thankfully run rate didn't go for a toss.

Re: ICC Cricket World Cup, 2019

Looks like I missed the most fun part of the match - the last 5 overs

But quite happy with the result. Although Dhoni & Kedar both not being able to hit the ball is a worrying sign. And todays match confirms one thing - Pant is what we call in gully cricket: a lapedu. His talent and hand eye coordination means that he connects more often than other lapedus but he is very very crude.

I am not sure about the fun part, but the most fun place during last 5 overs was Twitter RIP team pakistan fans and their self respect

I am sure many TVs and mobiles were broken in pak today as well, courtesy team India.

Re: ICC Cricket World Cup, 2019

One thing is very clear - the Indian teams lost a good bit of respect in those last 5 overs. Among fans and among experts. The Indian fans in the stadium started walking out well before the end of the match. A lot of folks watching it on TV switched off well before the match ended. The talk between Saurav Ganguly and Atherton during the last few overs was on the point, rightly questioning the way Dhoni and Jadhav were playing; with their singles and dot balls.

This dialogue by Ganguly sums it up - link

Even a commentator like Sanjay Manjrekar was questioning the slow pace by Kohli and Rohit during the first 15 years, but back then, he was giving them the benefit of doubt.
