Re: The Coronavirus Thread

Come on guys, please be sensitive while responding to the comments on the thread. A lot of us have lost our close relative/friend/colleague/fellow member to this pandemic. The least we should be doing is to post insensitive remarks while sitting in the comfort of our chairs. While at it, it’s best to keep discussion on politics away from this thread. Thanks!

There is a medical emergency in our country and we need consistent management of the same for the next few years or until we get the majority of the population vaccinated.

We cannot compare the data from other countries with that of India, not sure how accurate our death rates actually are.

We will definitely overcome this wave in the coming weeks, but that doesn't mean the war is over, we have to keep guard until the majority of the population gets vaccinated.

A kind request to all the people trying to justify things with jumbled up statistics - please have the common decency to not reduce your colleagues, friends, and family members to mere statistics that are made up. If you're confident that nothing is wrong, please show the "recovery rate" and "per million" rates to the person who's mother just died at home for the lack of a bed. Blame the person who's dead for not believing in these dishonest statistics. Try calling the person gasping for breath as "medically illiterate".

Re: The Coronavirus Thread

Governments screwed up, both State & Center irrespective of ideologies they belong to. Politicians for all you know are still trying to find a way to strike a deal & to earn money between all these vaccines, plants, Oxygen, medicines etc.

It is us the people, who have to suffer or are already suffering. We are dying for as simple as lack of oxygen. We always knew our population, we always knew our health infrastructure can not support our population if it came to it. Our politicians still could give not us a stable, growing health infrastructure.

Let's keep this thread a bit saner. If you are not impacted, good for you, don't go around shouting "all is well" because it is not & if you are impacted, try and keep your sanity, we can't just give up yet. We have to look beyond & come out of it, we need positivity.

We shall come out of this, as a nation, as a species, please don't give up just yet.

They now want to ban criticism of their incompetence on social media - https://www.bbc.com/news/world-asia-56883483

Perhaps once they have some spare time between reporting such tweets, they could focus on minor issues like procuring oxygen, vaccines and so on.

Because the issue isn't only NCR. Please talk to folks in other states (and not just one or two) if you don't want to believe folks here. But stop insenstivizing the issue just because a few lucky ones like us either live in cities/states that have currently not been affected to that extent or have been lucky to not be impacted by the virus till date.

I am from Gujarat with multiple friends in Bharuch, Vadodara, Ahmd, Rajkot - the situation is dire and I have several friends who are facing O2 issues across cities (unfortunately a few have lost folks already).

The list (Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh) given by @Mayankk is quite accurate. For MH, Mumbai might be doing okay now but the rest of the state isn't out of problem yet. Infact to the list, there are a few more that are borderline depending on how things work out next few weeks - Goa for example.

Re: The Coronavirus Thread

It's discouraging to read this thread and I will avoid it from now on.

3.5 lakh people are getting infected every day and 2.5k+ are dying. These are official figures but anecdotally and a number of data points indicate the scale could well be 10x higher. Please do not ask me to share sources. Kindly Google this and refer to large, trusted news sources.

I'm glad that some of the people here appear to be in safe bubbles, untouched by the coronavirus. But the reality is a lot of people in this country today are not. So for heaven's sake show some maturity and sensitivity. Families are being ravaged by this disease, suffering loss of lives and untold economic losses.

I believe this disease has exposed the privilege most of us have enjoyed all our lives for a thin, hollow shell and if nothing else, some empathy will go a long way.

The numbers are just statistics until it's you or a loved one.

Take care and stay safe, everyone.

Absolutely true. To give you a latest update on the situation here, one of my staff is infected and when we tried to hospitalize him, beds were not available. Somehow when we got Him a bed and then the hospital wanted us to arrange oxygen for him since it was not available. Now when everything is arranged and he is treated, staff keeps enquiring when is the bed getting empty. He is still on oxygen support with Spo2 levels at 90. When he walks a few steps the Spo2 levels drop drastically.

This is happening at tier 3 city and Government hospital. Only one another COVID hospital available here.

Re: The Coronavirus Thread

The inevitable has happened.

Karnataka govt announces 14-day complete lockdown in Karnataka from Tuesday 6pm to reduce the number of infections and to break the chain of the virus. "Essential services allowed between 6-10am. After 10am, shops to remain closed. Only construction, manufacturing & agriculture sectors allowed," said Karnataka CM BS Yediyurappa.

On a positive note, hope this lock down gets things under control and reduces the spread.

Should Be Booked For Murder Probably": Court Shreds Election Commission

Quote:
The Election Commission is singularly responsible for the second wave of Covid and should probably be booked for murder, the Madras High Court observed today in the sharpest criticism yet of crowded campaigns for the five state polls that continued in the middle of raging virus cases. The court has threatened to stop the counting of votes on Sunday if a "blueprint" is not in place.

Your institution is singularly responsible for the second wave of COVID-19. Your officers should be booked on murder charges probably," the Madras High Court told the Election Commission

This should have been done long back. A country wide lock down in March would have saved the day for the country.
Any way hope with this step, NCR like scenario won't develop in Bangalore.

In this thread I have always maintained life is worthier than livelihood. If you can feed the populace during lockdown, the only down effect will be a fall in GDP, but that you can manage later.

What will happen to the universal vaccine roll out in the state now?

Poor people should be looked after. Just hope authorities have learnt from the last shutdown. But they didnt learn anything from the first wave in sprucing up the medical infrastructure So finger crossed !

“You (ECI) are the only institution responsible for the situation that we are in today. You have been singularly lacking any kind of exercise of authority. You have not taken measures against political parties holding rallies despite every order of this court saying ‘maintain Covid protocol, maintain Covid protocol’,” the first bench of Chief Justice Sanjib Banerjee and Justice Senthilkumar Ramamoorthy said.

True!

Unfortunately they are not done with the screwing around yet. It is heart-wrenching to see the statements being made by Inox (one of the biggest oxygen producers) in front of High Court on what’s happening on the ground. Government response to these allegations is - ‘Not my job’

It’s now getting to the tune of banning criticism by hook or by crook. At a time when hospitals in UP have sounded concerns on Oxygen shortage, the CM makes a statement (article below) which appears to be a way to silence hospitals no matter what.

Hey doc, just saw your post after submitting mine. I am certainly going to refrain from adding anything else on this topic which doesn’t help COVID patients or their families. Thanks for being one of the most sane voices on this thread and constantly helping others

Re: The Coronavirus Thread

Hi,
Again I request fellow members to discuss only regarding corona virus in this thread. We have enough negativity around.
Somebody asked regarding getting a covid infection between 1st and 2nd dose when to take the 2nd dose. It depends, both covishield and covaxin can be taken after the patient recovers out of the illness preferably 30 to 60 days post recovery. If there is any change to this will post again.
