Re: The Online Shopping Thread

Fraud Ecommerce website alert Gearxpert.in

I was in the market for a dual purpose helmet especially Airoh Commander for a long time. I checked with many local dealers , but it was mostly out of stock. They were willing to import one but the price quoted was exponentially high. So one day, I was scrolling through the google and found one search result on google. The name of the website was Gearxpert.in. They have listed various items of motorcycling needs in various sections neatly. Initially I too was skeptical as I had never heard of this website before but considering how many motoshops have opened their own websites, I visited the website nonetheless. The helmet I wanted was available and was listed at reasonable price. I then scrolled through website, everything seemed legit, address , email and contact number was there. Even during registration, they used shopify to send OTP on email.

To lure new customers, they have onboarded many payment platforms such as Phonepay,Razorpay and allow customers to pay only 10-20% of order amount as advance and rest can be paid during delivery. I was still skeptical hence I thought of placing a small order first. I placed for a Cree L9X Foglamp which was listed at ₹1387 for single unit. I was asked to pay 20% so that came to ₹287. I paid the amount and placed the order. I even got the order confirmation email. And from hereon, real struggle began.

There was no update for first 3 days. I dropped them an email asking for an update. Email came back undelivered (info@gearxpert.in). Then I dropped another email to customercaregearxpert@gmail.com which was also present on the website. That too bounced back. I waited for another day and called on the number given on the website which was +919360514561. Clever part is that they have kept this number active but no one picks up the call at all. I tried to call them on various times, from different numbers but no one picks up the call. So there goes my money down the drain. I am thanking my stars that I placed an order for a relatively cheaper item than putting down ₹7000 as advance for that helmet.

My thoughts: this website must be run by a very clever IT guy considering how well developed and responsive the homepage is and how interactive UI is. They have even on boarded some of the reputed industry service providers such as Shopify and Razorpay to handle shipping, tracking, payment, authorisation duties. Even if the website ask for 10-20% as advance, accumulated amount of fraud should be a considerable sum as the listed inventorying is quite vast. I have filed a complaint on cyber crime portal and awaiting for an update. Kindly be aware of this website in particular.

Poor customer support at bewakoof.com

I regularly buy from bewakoof.com. Pretty cool t-shirts that does not break the bank.

But their customer care is a joke. They don't have a contact number and just have a mail id.

Recently I've been trying to buy a t-shirt against available wallet balance. Order gets confirmed (I don't get confirmation mail but), after a few minutes if I check my order history, it shows the order as failed (no reason given).

I send mail with order numbers and I get automated reply asking for order numbers. I send it again and I get the same reply.

Endless loop of madness!

What a waste of time.

It appears to be an appropriate and well suited name for that website .

Did you try Twitter / Other social media sites (e.g. Instagram) for their support?

Re: The Online Shopping Thread

Does anyone have prior feedback on this website - DesignInfo?

Am looking to purchase the DJI Action 5 Pro (https://www.designinfo.in/p/dji-osmo...dventure-combo) and this is the lowest price amongst what I find online (shows up on Google Shopping). DJI anyways has no presence in India, so the warranty is perhaps only on paper, but that would be the case irrespective of where I buy this from.

Tried scouting for some info online and they have a physical store in Mumbai -
No.1, Saremals, Shastri Hall Building,
Nana Chowk, Grant Road West,
Mumbai 400007, Maharashtra, India

Found more info on this only on youtube

Was originally planning to get one from the US, but the prices on this website are almost identical to US prices, so thought of checking here, before I take the plunge.

Reddit generally has a few opinions about such not so popular websites:

Do you know Videolinks/Nexgen Gears?

They have an outlet in Bangalore. Actually, it might be a warehouse more than a shop, I don't know, I know they have a shop in Kerala. Anyway, Anish and the business have an excellent reputation among photographers, and heaps of stuff that is not on their website. Worth a call. Totally trustworthy. Yes, the price in the above link is a lot more. Call them for best price.

There is a place here in Chennai that seems to do a lot of dji stuff according to their IG channel. I can vouch for them being a real business with a real shop, albeit very small. They sell photographic equipment new, grey, used. I visited in person, a couple of months ago, and bought a used lens from them. Company is called Map Camera. 70000 76262

There is a whole maze full of camera shops in this city, and I'd guess that someone deals in dji. But you probably have the same in your city. I have a friend with lots of contacts there: I only know the couple of shops he's taken me to.

Even I was looking at this site when I was looking for Insta360 X4. Price difference between Amazon, Flipkart and Designinfo was staggering 8k. This price was too good to be true. I was not ready to take a risk of 40k .

If you are from Mumbai or if you have any friends then better you purchase it from the physical shop. I read that products are new and genuine even if you are doing physical purchase, still you need to pay via online. Another thing, all items are imported and you might not get the standard warranty.

Re: The Online Shopping Thread

Hi members,

I just want to share my recent experience with Amazon shopping. I was looking for Insta360 X4 from last few months. Prices in all major online retailers were identical INR 49,990. Only in DesignInfo it was almost 8k lesser. Being an unknown site, I was not ready to take the risk.

One fine day(night) when I was just checking amazon around 11:30 pm, shocked to see the price was reduced by 5k and available at INR 44,990. But as I was too tired and about to sleep, I thought of buying it next day. But next day when went to buy it, again the price was INR 49,990 .

I was confused and did more digging, but no luck. Then I observed that it was previous version Insta360 X3 available at that price. I just blamed my sleepy eyes and closed it with disappointment.

Few weeks passed, again one midnight after my late night meeting I was checking the price, Voila !!!! agin it is available for INR 44,990. This time I called my wife as an eye witness to make sure its X4 not X3 and I am not hallucinating . Immediately I took out the credit card and purchased it. With some good bank offers, the price came down to INR 41,990.

Even after purchasing I kept tracking the price. Below are my observations.
  • Higher or standar price item (49K) was from amazon prime and available for next day delivery.
  • Lower price item was available only after 10/10:30 pm. Delivery is after 4 days and shipped from Mumbai.
  • Both items have same standard warranty of 1 year. Only sellers are different

I am not sure about the business logic behind secret midnight discount sale or how many such items are being sold like this. But I am not complaining as I got the best deal.

Attaching some of the pics of investigation

Congratulations! I'm glad you managed to get your camera at the price you wanted to pay.

I have a story about a phone. I had my eye on Pixel 8a. Then I realised saw that it fallen to about 44k and Pixel 8 was almost the same price. But I wasn't in a hurry, and other things needed money. Well, it went up to 50k-plus and has stayed there.

He who hesitates is lost .

But I'm still being patient even if I have to wait for Flipkart's next billion-day tamasha. Or release of Pixel 10. Or something.

This is good in a way that you have your emotions in control. In my case I was feeling guilt next day for my impulsive purchase due to FOMO in the middle of the night

I have observed similar price fluctuation within a day on many other items, We might have to time our purchase like stock trading for the best deal

Re: The Online Shopping Thread

This one is from Flipkart:

So, about 10 days ago, I was on a mission hunting down the best deal like a bargain hunter. I scoured every platform, compared prices, and Flipkart came through with a sweet deal: 500 bucks for something everyone else was selling at 600. I didn’t even blink—clicked "Buy Now" faster than you can say “steal of the century.”

But oh, the plot thickens. Turns out the seller had other plans. The price shot back up to 600 after my purchase, and suddenly, my order was stuck in limbo. Flipkart kept pushing delivery dates like it was some kind of endurance test, and the seller? They were clearly playing chess while I was playing checkers.

After a extended period of waiting (still hoping for a miracle), I finally waved the white flag and cancelled the order. My epic deal turned into an epic fail :(

Re: The Online Shopping Thread

Recently got swindled by a website https://glamcase.in/ . Ordered a case and opted for COD. It took 2 weeks to get delivered by DTDC. I thought ill reject the parcel when it gets delivered as i had a feeling that im going to be taken for a ride. But during delivery i found the packing very professional, so i thought ill accept and hence paid the amount. On opening, it was some basic case and not even the one i ordered. There is a return option on the site, and it gets stuck at one point and so you can't return. And there is an email too, but emails bounce back.

I reported the site through the cybercrime portal, but the website is still up and running.

Re: The Online Shopping Thread

Buying online turned out best after all

Saga of our new kitchen tap.

I needed to replace the mixer tap, and wanted as close to the original pattern as I could get. I did not want one of these high-in-the-air mixer spouts! I found a couple of contenders, and decided on the Jaquar tap. Amazon had it on next-day delivery.

Preferring to support a local business, we called one that we have dealt with before. They quoted a much lower price, but two days delivery. The two days came and went. After three or four days, they said they had it ready for collection. I left Saturday, which meant going on Monday.

A young guy said that they had messaged about lack of drivers. I said, that's after you told us you had it already. After some cross talk, he promised it for next day.

Next day he messaged, not available. I ordered it from Amazon, and told them we will not go their shop again. Amazon delivered one day early.

Haha for once I'd decided to put my money where my mouth is and not support a rather horrible billionaire with slave-labour employment policies. Hahahaha: the laugh was me. But at least I tried!

Have you used/installed it?

My experience with taps and online shopping has been a mixed bag - 50:50. The first two were disastrous, with the units looking externally flawless and well packaged. But upon fixing, were found to be leaking. The latest purchases have been doing good, and will hopefully remain so for a while.

Touchwood!
