The short answer would be that objections were raised about the classification, which is the specific category a para-athlete is assessed at, aimed at making it an even competition, and he was found to not match that classification so was disqualified.

It's of course a bit more complicated than that.

The whole aim of classification is to ensure that those competing against each other are evenly matched. The system is in place (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Para-a...classification) but the classification is best handled by qualified assessors often with medical professional inputs.

But think about it, it's a heartbreaking scenario in many ways- how do you as a dispassionate assessor, decide that a certain athlete is to be in a certain category because of a certain level of being differently-abled. It's not a one-to-one mapping or a list of tables that one can refer to. And how heartbreaking is it to lose out on a fair classification not because you are misrepresenting yourself but because you are just able to overcome your different-abilities with a higher level of performance. I know that there have been cases of para-athletes misrepresenting themselves so that they can fall in to a category where their abilities give them an advantage over the rest of the field. So I imagine the reverse happens too, where a para-athlete is unfairly moved out of a classification because of perceived performance even though they can fairly compete in that classification.

The best safeguard against this happening at such a late stage would be for the athlete to have been classified accurately early, much before the competition by the national sporting body. Like a boxer will know which weight division they are going to compete in much before. How and why that didn't happen in this case are certainly the questions that will be asked now.
