Re: The 2023 Cricket World Cup

It is not a surprise to see a one sided win by India against Pak as the conditions and pitch suited the Indians playing at home. At Chennai India played against Australia on a turning pitch which suited Indian bowlers whereas NZ played against Bang in chennai on a pitch with lot of pace and bounce. I am sure as hosts India has the advantage regarding choosing the pitches to suit their bowlers and has quality spinners to exploit the conditions. I won't be surprised if India dominates all the games and win the cup rather easily as no other team is as strong and balanced like India. The last 2 world cups have been won by the host teams and India will win this time.

Pakistan, as a team, seemed clueless against India. First their batsmen and the bowlers against Rohit's onslaught.
There are two ways to look at this 'no paki song' debate:
  • As an excuse for the no-contest match. Most Pakistani commentators have called this a non-issue, as you do too. Even the much maligned cricket director. Pakistan simply needs to attend to its cricket.
  • Partisanship in hosting a 'world' cup. This lies with India, BCCI, ICC and not Pakistan. Yes, crowds can be partisan sometimes. The hosting country and organization should not become the crowd though.

Bumrah was sensational! Overall India looking good by doing great on two of their main weaknesses. Middle order recovery from a collapse & fast bowling. Hopefully they maintain this and looking forward to them taking on SA or NZ in the final

Congrats to Afghan too! Their weakness has always been batting - with a decent score they do have the bowling talent to defend. England really needs get over their hype and play proper cricket. Hopefully Stokes coming back would help them.

If England were really looking to better their NRR then they should have batted first & aimed for 400 !

Around the 7 minute mark, Pak coach is complaining 'Pak songs' were not playing in the few moments Pak had in the match - e.g., the eerie silence when Pakistan took a wicket.

While it does seem like a rant, I do remember such songs playing in previous Pak games in Hyderabad. Similarly for other teams.

Does anyone know what happened here?
It was a rant. You are playing against India in India and that too in Ahmedabad, with not a single Pak supporter around and the stadium full of blue, if they were expecting Pak songs or support, their expectations were wrong. Besides, since I was in the stadium I can tell you, they literally were under pressure from the word GO and their body language was never confident. They were neither attacking nor aggressive throughout. If they blame Indian supporters for all these, they are not entitled to play a world cup level international game.

With all due respect, I would disagree with this. This was a plain batting track with odd deliveries coming slow. They themself took all pressure and they were not at all attacking from the word GO. They never tried to attack a single Indian bowler, nor they were aggressive in the field. That was not the pitch but that was mindset which was playing tricks with them.

I'm not talking about or expecting any Bollywood elements. Just the basic promotional contents like a theme song, promotional videos or adverts etc were missing - which was really strange. For the first time - in India - most Indians were unaware that a world cup was coming or started!

I was really disappointed with the hype and importance given to Pak team before the match. I guess now I think it should have burned them more

There have been no exciting thrillers yet in this world cup. Hope we get to see them. Not Indian matches ofcourse. Cant stand them after 40 years of watching us play

Pakistan was completely outplayed with the plan and its execution. Kuldeep and Bumrah were like people obsessed. Rohit hit the final nail in the coffin.

There is this Amitabh Bachchan film called "Satte pe Satta". In the movie, whenever Amitabh's character starts to get beaten up by goons, his brothers start screaming "Chain kuli ki main kuli ki chain". The chants increase Amitabh's strength exponentially and he ends up winning the battle.

Micky Arthur is clearly a Bollywood fan and he was expecting "Dil Dil Pakistan" to have the same effect on Babar & co. Too bad, Mickey's Satte pe Satta gamble ended in a Saat (7) wicket defeat for his side.

Re: The 2023 Cricket World Cup

It was an one sided match that did not have that adrenaline moments of Ajay Jadeja or Venkatesh Prasad or the Sachin six of Shoaib. However the Indians were clinical and this win will be a template for future matches. More power to them. However the jingoism and the noise in the stadium robbed the match of a true festive competitive event.

The Pakistan players are our guests and guests deserve our hospitality. If this is what the spectators thought is patriotism, i feel for them.

So, came across this theory going around that the DJ goes along with the mood of the audience being catered to and since the stadium was full of blue, the songs were belted out appropriately.

As regards the rant, Akram rightfully called out the bluff and pointed out that he should be rather commenting on what plan he and the team had to counter the Indian bowlers rather than the choice of songs.

P. S. : Next time they can take tips from Sehwag on how to sing to themselves between deliveries if the DJ is not obliging.

Are we in for another interesting match today?

SL @ 110 for no loss in 19 overs against the Aussies.

Re: The 2023 Cricket World Cup

When more than 1 Lac people sing the National Anthem in the World’s biggest Stadium, Rohit Sharma should have got his century with so many overs to spare.

A win plus century by the winning captain is icing on the cake. Any top class player like Sunil Gavaskar, Rahul Dravid, Sachin Tendulkar, etc. would have done that. Hitman has a tendency of hitting anything and everything once he is settled. Rahul Dravid should have sent a message to him to get his century.

@ India vs Pak🏏
