re: The 2023 Cricket World Cup

Well, New Zealand earned their victory. Spectacular playing by Devon Conway and Rachin Ravindra. Can't wait to see Devon in full swing in IPL (CSK fan )

Trivia : Rachin Ravindra was named after Rahul Dravid and Sachin Tendulkar . His father was originally from Bangalore but moved to NZ in 90s.

re: The 2023 Cricket World Cup

Great match. New Zealand has made their mark on this World Cup and clearly are the team to beat. Was disappointed to see the empty stands though. Of course filling 120,000 seats is not easy but it seemed like there were less than 25000 spectators around. Puzzled why that is the case when tickets have been so hard to get (even for non India matches)

For me ODIs are the best form of cricket - I can follow a test match, but not watch one; while T20 is too much of “Slam Bam, Thank You…”

What a one-sided match and an excellent drubbing by New Zealand, considering they didn't have Williamson, Southee or Ferguson!

If only New Zealand repeat this performance, we'll have an exciting World cup on our hands!

re: The 2023 Cricket World Cup

Many years ago, Mahatma Gandhi started the Dandi March from Sabarmati Ashram in Ahmedabad. This march would lay the foundation of the movement that ended up throwing the English out of India.

And today, the Kiwis have given the English a proper "Danda March" in Ahmedabad once again, which hopefully will lay the foundation of the Poms getting the stick (Danda) in every game before being dumped out of the world cup too.

On a serious note, that Rachin Ravindra pull for six off a 150 kmph Mark Wood bouncer gave me goosebumps.

Kiwis played bazball which was invented by their former captain for test cricket for England! What a chase. Rachin will get his IPL contract if he can repeat the performance another couple of times.

re: The 2023 Cricket World Cup

Thanks for the thread.

First of all my 4 semi finalist prediction -

India
Australia
New Zealand
South Africa.

Yes, I have omitted England as their bowling attack is the weakest in my opinion. And I feel South Africa are the dark horses this time.

Today's match was absolutely ridiculous. No opening ceremony, no hype, empty stadium. Asian games had more attendance. BCCI has royally messed up this edition. Opening match should have been at Wankhede or Chinnaswamy where attendance would have been quite good.

I saw the match in bits and pieces. Don't have the patience to watch 8 hours continuously with so many other things to do. Pitch was a highway. Minimum score should have been 350. England bats till 11 and still didn't manage to get 300. NZ bowling was fantastic. Conway was as usual reliable and solid. Ravindra is an impressive young talent with great temperament. Rightly Player of the match.

The real reason for the low turnout is possibly because of the absence of genuine cricket fans. Apparently, very few tickets were put on for online sale and that too is a cumbersome process. Maximum tickets have been shared between the advertisers, the board officials and the state associations. This is a shame that genuine cricket fans have been kept waiting for tickets. Late scheduling of matches is also one of the reasons for low turnout I guess. I hope the attendance improves in the coming weeks.

I am sure matches involving India will have the full house everywhere but it’s the non India matches which will be more interesting. New Zealand making a mincemeat of England in the opener is just the kind of impetus the tournament needed. We are likely to see some swashbuckling matches for sure.

re: The 2023 Cricket World Cup

The 2023 ODI World Cup was off to a flying start - what a cracker of an opener that was, New Zealand just steamrolled England chasing down the required 283 runs in 36.2 overs!
Devon Conway got 152 and Rachin Ravindra scored 123.
New Zealand are definitely one of the teams to watch out for and have always been India's nemesis in ICC tournaments.

re: The 2023 Cricket World Cup

I was looking for buying tickets to the CWC 2023 and prices for Ind v Pak match are quoted at staggering INR 55k per ticket. At the same time Bookmyshow is indicating tickets to both the Indo Pak match as well as finals are sold out.

Has any one on the forum managed to book tickets via the official online platform bookmyshow?

Also if any leads for tickets to final, please do let me know.

re: The 2023 Cricket World Cup

My Semi Finalists for this world cup would be:

1. India
2. NZ
3. Australia
4. England

As per yesterday’s match official figure, there were more than 47k people at the stadium which is not bad for a non Indian match.

Had read an article about this a long time ago. For 'prestige' events like this, a lot of tickets are reserved for Cricket association members and corporate/sponsor hospitality. And most of them don't bother turning up for non-India/non-knockout matches.

Denying the true aam-janata cricket fans the chance.

Re: The 2023 Cricket World Cup

About the low turnout - leading up to the opener there were numerous complaints and even articles by Cricinfo about poor management of the WC overall. Tickets were hard to get, hard to collect the physical copy, lack of clarity on the schedule and extremely high prices for flights & hotels. So couldn't that be the reason? Plus the match kicked off on a hot, sunny working day!

Also, there wasn't any opening ceremony, right?

Was talking to a doctor friend and she said that recovery time for such sportsmen is a couple of days with steroid use etc.

May be the doctors in the forum can shed some light.
