when do you get home in the evening?

I am from amchi MUMBAI of cource, I am a Electrical Consultant, I have my office in Andheri west on Veera Desai Road, and I stay in Seven Bunglows (3.5 Kms). I and my office staff are early starters, we start at 9.00AM and wind up around 6.00 PM. I am home in less then 10 to 15 minutes, I dont have to break my head with the traffic from townside towards suburbs. This is a blessing in disguise during heavy downpour when Mumbai is submerged and guys from town side take ages to reach home I make it in minutes. I use either Maruti 800 5 SPEED, Fiat linea, Honda Accord, Maruti Swift VDI,

Glad to know that I am part of the majority viz. reach home before 10 PM

Place - Pune

Distance from residence to work - 13 kms

Average time for travel - 40 min (by bike; add 10 min extra for car)

Office timings : 10.30 AM to 5.30 PM

Actual timings : 9.45 AM to ...... generally before 10 PM most days (during the quarter / year ends, it is mostly early next day morning and atleast one 36 - 40 hour stretch without sleep!?!)

Working at : a PSU Bank

Will reach office around 10:30 AM and will get back home before 7 PM.
Trivandrum
Engineering Software (Hate to call it IT)

Daily travel: 15 Kms (to and fro)
Time spent in Traffic: Less than 30 minutes.

By looking at the timings mentioned my most of you, I think I am lucky!

Daily Travel: 40-44kms(depends on the route)
Time taken: 1-1:30hrs
Timings: 16:30-1:30AM for 1 month and 14:00-23:00 for one month
Most of the time, will travel by bike and sometimes in car.

Sorry Guys for reviving this old thread, but I couldn't resist myself.
After relocating from Mumbai to Bangalore, the office commute is heaven

I start at 8:40 AM for 9:00 AM office timing (Sonyworld Kormangalore to CV Raman Nagar) and start at 6:00 PM and reach home at 6:25 PM.
It's heaven. In mumbai, I used to travel 4 hours daily for office commute.
Now it's just 45 min.

Distance to work - 5 kms
Avg travel time - 15 min (by car, 20 minutes by Bicycle)
Mon - Thu -> In Time: 9:30 AM, Out Time 8:30 PM
Fri -> In Time: 10 AM, Out Time 5:30 PM.

I work in a bank @ Mumbai. Leave home at 8.15 everyday. Leaving from work is never before 8 pm. Reach home before 10 PM

Sorry - couldn't stop myself from bumping up this thread (which was started in 2008) and till 2010 most of the members have reported reaching home by 9 / 10 PM!

In my case, I got relocated to Delhi, Mumbai & back to Pune in the intervening period (2011 - 2014) and timings are like this -

Delhi - leave home by 7 AM and back by 10 PM (To and fro travel time - 3 hrs)

Mumbai - leave home by 7.30 AM and back by 8.30 PM (To and fro travel time - 2 and a half hours)

Pune (now) - leave home by 9.15 AM and return after 9 PM. (To and fro travel time - One hour fifteen minutes).

In the last four year all these cities have seen increased traffic volume. There were no hassles in Delhi and Mumbai, because of the Metro and Local. Pune is a different story altogether - had I stayed in Mumbai, I could have been travelling on the Mono or the Eastern Freeway now and avoided the mad rush of the two wheelers on the roads in Pune.....

What is the position at other cities now ? Same - Worse - Improved??

That's surprising.

I always thought PSU Bank is a 9-5 job. Cool, composed, no tension, no stress kind of.

By PSU bank you mean likes of BOI/SBI/PNB etc right?

Start 8:20 AM, reach office at 9:45 AM

Start back 6:20 PM and reach home at 7:45 PM. Total distance to be covered 75-80 KM to and fro.

Distance to Work - 11 kms
Leaves home - 8:20 am (The 10-11 odd kms to my workplace takes 15 mins, thanks to minimal traffic)
Reaches home - 6:15 pm (I leave at 5:50 pm and it takes almost 20-25 mins to get back home depending upon the traffic)

Traveling by road from Delhi to Gurgaon is indeed a hassle. I remember the time when I was in Gurgaon - getting off the highway into Gurgaon used to take 10 minutes in the traffic. Thank God for the metro - getting down at HUDA city centre and walking was the best option.
