Nitpicking here.

Based on the reports I've read (not following them closely), the Adani group seems to have issued statement on the lines on "we are not aware of any ongoing investigations" at a time when they were already under notice by the authorities in USA.

Non disclosure of market relevant information does come under SEBI preview. It would be hard for them not to trigger a closer look.

Invested in finfluencers' stock picks? 72% of shares failed to beat Nifty.

Stay away from these nincompoops and do your due diligence. If not all, most of them have ulterior motives behind. Stay safe and stay aware !

Re: Do you play the stock market

Much needed, these mavericks have been mushrooming all over on the internet. But I know these finfluencers will find another loophole to bypass the system.

Key points in Sebi’s latest circular;

- Stock market educators cannot use live stock prices - only data with a three-month lag.

- Registered market entities cannot associate with finfluencers in any way that involves monetary or non-monetary compensation.

- Investor education is allowed, but educators must not give investment advice or make performance claims without Sebi’s approval.

- Educators cannot use stock names, codes, or price data from the past three months in any form that could imply investment advice.

Worst is when they assure gullible people to become millionaires and sell their courses. Stay away, that's all I can say.

Re: Do you play the stock market

Hello All
Kindly guide me on a good strategy for building a bonds portfolio. I want to apportion a part of my monthly investments towards bonds to diversify, mainly looking at long term (5+yrs) predictable monthly income, in the short and medium term - I would want to reinvest the proceedings.

Many thanks,
EVICE

We have a separate thread for investments in bonds:

After reading the posts, feel free to ask any specific questions you may have on that thread.

Have a question on Upper circuit and Lower circuit limit of 5%. If we have this limits, why stock WPIL fell more than 25% yesterday evening post results announcements.

I think, the circuit limit is different for different stocks. For all major stocks, i guess this is 5%.

Re: Do you play the stock market

A question on CAGR, I understand it is RRI formula with purchase value , final value and number of years. How to calculate CAGR on a house which was bought on loan, as the cost of purchase is actual amount plus interest amount and also it is paid over the years and not a one time

Use the compounding formula, but with some tweaks:
https://www.moneycontrol.com/persona...ding-tool.html

Example:

- Let's assume you bought an apartment 10 years ago (year 2015) with a downpayment of Rs. 25 Lakhs. Enter this amount under 'amount you can invest today'
- Assume your monthly EMI was Rs. 50,000 for 10 years. Now enter 50000 in 'regular monthly investments' field and 10 in 'investment period' field
- Under compounding interval, select 'monthly'
- Let's assume you sold this apartment for Rs. 1.4 cr in the year 2025.
- Now in the 'rate of interest on savings' field, enter your estimated cagr number, such that 'your investment after 10 years' field shows the sale price of the apartment.
- Start with 8% as estimated CAGR and look at the 'your investment after 10 years' value. Since it is higher than your actual sale price, reduce it to 7% and check:

Do you play the stock market-screenshot-20250213-163714.png

Now it matches your actual sale price of the apartment. So your investment has returned 7% cagr

Re: Do you play the stock market

Advice needed from the stock market gurus of this forum.

I am currently 17, (turning 18 in a few months) and my dad is encouraging me to start learning about the stock market. He does stocks but not much and is willing to give me a small amount to start off in the market.

Logically, what is the first thing I should do? Any books, YT guides reccomendations would be helpful.

Before stock market, learn about Financial Management as a whole. I always feel that, personal finance related subjects should be encouraged from school days. 18 is a good time to experiment (with caution) and learn about stock market. You will have many here who would recomend good books and you must read them before you invest a single rupee. Books by Parag Parikh, Santosh Nair and internationally ofcourse Warren Buffett are good starters. Also read, Psychology of Money by Morgen Housel. Even reading this thread from page 1 gives a good insight however it is never credited enough

In addition the following should be taken as expense (added to investment amount)
-maintenance
-registry, brokerage
- house tax or other govt expenses
- other significant charges (renovation)

The following should be taken as income (added to return)
- rent saved (if self occupied)
- rent earned (if let out)

Appropriate discounting of cash flows to be done with prevailing interest rate for the period. It's not an easy calculation but can swing the outcome significantly.

aah yes, good one. One of the reasons why apartment returns show up badly on an Excel sheet is because it is calculated wrong or calculated with lots of handicaps.

In addition to what you mentioned, the rent earned (or saved) needs to be invested in a debt mutual fund to calculate the real returns of an apartment investment. Doesn't have to be done literally of course, just pencil in 7% to 8% cagr growth for this amount on your calculator/excel sheet, and add the subsequent amount to final returns.

After all, if you invest Rs. 50 Lakhs in an equity mutual fund, we don't redeem units worth Rs. 10,000 per month as "rent". We allow the entire amount to stay within the fund and let it compound, thereby boosting the overall returns. But with a Rs. 50 Lakhs apartment investment, we are taking out Rs. 10,000 every month from the asset, but not accounting for it. That is what suppresses the Excel sheet returns of an apartment.

Broadly speaking:

- Real estate returns over long term will be equal to [inflation rate + that particular city/town's GDP growth]
- Equity returns over long term will be equal [inflation rate + country's GDP growth]
- Gold returns over long term will be equal to [inflation rate + INR depreciation rate against USD]
- Fixed Returns (Fixed Deposit/Debt MF) will be equal to [inflation rate]

This is a wonderful age to start learning about the Stock Markets. And I am happy your Father is encouraging you for this.
One thing that you have to keep in mind, is that you have to take EVERYTHING on Social Media with a handful of salt, not a pinch.
As you start looking to learn about the Markets, you will come across multiple websites and Influencers show you how to turn 5000 into a Million.
Stay away from them.

Take your time, and Learn about Swing Trading. Do not even think about Intraday trading, and Options is a strictly forbidden area.

Its a long journey. I started at your age. I am 50 now. My Son is 17 now. He has an in house Mentor in Myself, and is a much better Trader than even I am. Youngters learn faster and better.

My Daughter is 24, and she is completely in Algo Trading. Everything is automated, Multiple Strategies deployed, she tracks them Intraday.

So Yes, there is a future in this field, but the success ratio is close to 5 Percent. And come to think of it, so is the ratio in other fields.

But if you DO crack it, its a peaceful way to make money.

Start off by reading books.
Dont waste your time on Youtube.... they are all trying to sell you something or the other.
