Re: Laser Eye Surgery - LASIK discussion

It is not so simple. Ive had glasses since like 18 years now or so, got evaluated from two places in early May. Same story.
480-490 micron corneal thickness.
My power is -5.5 in both eyes and the surgeons simply refused saying they would have to burn off too much tissue. I was advised ICL instead.

Re: Laser Eye Surgery - LASIK discussion

I had Lasik done about 3.5 years ago, and couldn't have been happier! I wore glasses for some 15 years, and every time it was crippling. Be it playful fighting with my brothers and friends, or swimming, or getting wet in rain, or telling time in morning, every time I had to be totally dependent on my glasses ( number in the vicinity of -3.75). Motorcycling was bit irritating too, especially on few tours when one glass of my spectacles came off and broke in the middle of nowhere, and I had to ride with one eye closed, or spectacles removed and thus in foggy view.

I got operated in Pune hospital NIO, for 25k rs. Surgery was over in 10-15 mins, I was resting for few days, and back at office before a week. Initially I had to use HUGE fonts on monitor and avoid reading of small font book. But the vision improved/stabilized rapidly, and after 3.5 yrs, I am a happy guy.

I will definitely suggest it to anyone for whom doctors give go ahead. NIO is best for Pune people, many famous actors/actresses were treated here. I think Nana Patekar and Sonali Kulkarni Sr. were treated here.

Re: Laser Eye Surgery - LASIK discussion

Bumping up an old thread.

I have been contemplating getting a LASIK done. I am 33 years of age and have -4.5 on both eyes. I use contact lenses since the last 16 years and now feel that i need some freedom from it.

Can someone who has gone thru LASIK recently suggest any good LASIK Centres in Mumbai and also share their expereinces.

Thanks.

Cheers,
Raj

hi even at 480 corneal thickness, laser refractive surgeries can be done
Trans epithelial PRK, Relex smile are 2 options for you.

Can someone suggest a nice doctor in Bangalore? Someone trusted. Ahmedabad will do too as I can visit my family and bunk work for a week.

I was looking to get Lasik done about 2 years ago but it didn't materialise. Can anyone help me with above? My power is -7.5 in both eyes.

Can we get LASIK surgery done under Mediclaim Insurance? I guess the answer would be 'no'. Just wanted to confirm.

No. As per my firm, LASIK is termed Cosmetic Surgery and that is not covered under Mediclaim.

Re: Laser Eye Surgery - LASIK discussion

I had done lasik surgery from Nethradama in Bangalore 7.5 years back. (it was customised lasik and bladeless option )
From last one year my vision has been slowly going bad so i went and got eyes tested. Now i am back to wearing spectacles as power is about - 1.00 in both eyes along with some astigmatism.
Prior to lasik my power was approx - 4.00
Also lasik causes dryness in eyes for some people. This is what i experienced and the doctor also confirmed that it happens to some people and we need to keep blinking the eyes to avoid dryness
Anyway, feeling bad that i need to wear specs again
Hope this info helps prospective lasik surgery interested persons

Re: Laser Eye Surgery - LASIK discussion

I have a power of -9 spherical and -1 cylindrical in both eyes. After preliminary tests, was rejected for LASIK as my prescription has been fluctuating every year.Plan to go for another test ad hopefully surgery done by the end of this year.

Was the astigmatism a result of the Lasik surgery ? Or unrelated to the surgery ?

i had astigmatism prior to surgery as well. However it was corrected along with the myopia during the surgery.
However the lasik causes dryness of eyes to some people and this could also add for the astigmatism to return

I am in the same region. -9.5 and -1 respectively. Do let me know if you get any feedback. I have been contemplating LASIK for about a year or so now. Just not brave enough for some reason. I haven't checked if its even possible!

I have questionsseeing we are in the same boat -

Do you wear contact lenses too?if so which make and form?Do they feel nice?I gave up on them after a few days, just didn't feel comfortable.

Re: Laser Eye Surgery - LASIK discussion

I see most reponses from Bangalore only . No one from aamchi Mumbai for LASIK recommendation. Any good places to get it done. I heard that even govt hospitals are now doing LASIK for cheap but am quite scared to get it done from there.
